A Day Trip to Kamakura: A Perfect Itinerary for First-Time Visitors
Are you planning a day trip to Kamakura, Japan? Let me guide you through an unforgettable day trip based on my recent experience. From thrift shopping to historic sites and delicious local cuisine, this itinerary has something for everyone!
Morning Adventure: Book Off Super Bazaar near Ofuna Station
Start your day at the Book Off Super Bazaar near Ofuna Station. This thrift store is a treasure trove, packed with a variety of items. Whether you're hunting for books, clothes, or unique souvenirs, this place has it all. I personally found some fantastic deals here and walked away with a bag full of goodies.
Riding the Shonan Monorail
Next, hop on the famous Shonan Monorail. This hanging train runs from Ofuna Station to Enoshima Station and offers a unique travel experience. The views from the monorail are stunning, and it's a great way to see the scenic beauty of the area. The feeling of riding a hanging train is truly one-of-a-kind and shouldn't be missed.
Kamakurakokomae Station: A Nostalgic Stop
While we skipped Enoshima Island due to time constraints, we headed straight to Kamakurakokomae Station. This spot is famous for its appearance in the anime "Slam Dunk." It's a popular photo op, and fans of the show will love seeing this iconic location in person.
Exploring the Great Buddha at Hase Station
Our next stop was Hase Station to visit the Kamakura Buddha, also known as the Great Buddha of Kamakura. Despite the heavy rain, the sight of this majestic statue was awe-inspiring. The statue is one of Kamakura's most famous landmarks and a must-see for any visitor.
Dinner at Kamakura Station: A Culinary Delight
We then made our way to Kamakura Station for dinner. We dined at a rotating sushi bar, where we tasted "shirasu," a local Enoshima dish made from whitebait. It was absolutely delicious and a highlight of our trip. After dinner, we indulged in some sweet treats at Milky, a dessert shop nearby.
Ending the Day Early
Unfortunately, the rain continued, and the cold weather prompted us to head home early. Despite the weather cutting our tour short, our day trip to Kamakura was filled with memorable experiences and delicious food.
