  • BOBBY GOLDSBORO / creektrouble THIS VIDEO IS FOR DONNA A SWEET EXISTENCE! HONEY
See the tree how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long it wasn't big
I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it was just a twig
Then the first snow came and she ran out
To brush the snow away so it wouldn't die
    Came runnin' in all exited
Slipped and almost hurt herself and I laughed 'til I cried
She was always young at heart
Kind of dumb and kind a smart and I love her so
And I surprised her with a puppy
Kept me up all christmas eve two years ago
And it would sure embarrass her when
I came home from working late 'cause I would know
That she'd been sittin' there and cryin'
Over some sad and silly late late show
And Honey I miss you and I'm being good
And I'd love to be with you if only I could
She wrecked the car and she was sad
And so afraid that I'd be mad but what the heck
Though I pretended hard to be
Guess you could say she saw through me and hugged my neck
    I came home unexpectedly
And caught her crying needlessly in the middle of the day
And it was in the early spring
When flowers bloom and Robin sing she went away
And Honey I miss you and I'm being good
And I'd love to be with you if only I could
One day while I was not home
While she was there and all alone the angels came
Now all I have is memories
Of Honey and I wake up nights and call her name
Now my life's an empty stage
Where Honey lived and Honey played and love grew up
And a small cloud passes over head
And cries down the flower bed that Honey loved
And see the tree how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long it wasn't big
And Ilaughed at her and she got mad

I called when the first bird landed on it. And he'd start singing Honey. I think of my dad every time I look outside. I miss him so much but I still have the tree...when we planted it was just a twig. 😥

My mom died two months before this song came out in 1968...when I heard it I thought he's singing about mom. Dad heard the song too and commented on it to me and also bought me the 45 record. My brother and I played the song 17 months later at dad's funeral. In 2007 driving my brothers ashes to Tombstone AZ, while traveling through Texas late one night, with my brothers ashes in the back set AND without searching for 'any' channel on the radio, oldies or otherwise, I turned on the radio and Bobby Goldsboro was singing Honey....it was truly a God Moment....and now that 45rpm record is number 174 on my jukebox.

My sister died aged eight in 1967
Just before she died, she had gone missing, we found in church praying.
The one thing she so wanted was to make her communion. The Catholic priest denied her this, because she could not memorize the text in the prayer book. I felt so sad for her and offered her my place with no avail.
    A week later she died.
This song helped me through the grieving process at the young age of ten. I didn't t understand the lyrics then, but the magic and tranquillity of the voice were enough for me to gain some solitude. This was the beginning of my music therapy to that of religious therapy🎶🎵🎼

As we now all now know most of these Catholic Priests were all Paedophiles, denying your Sister communion was just plain EVIL, she was such a young girl, rules more important than compassion, I hope he did not come to her funeral, he was obviously the DEVIL. I am not religious and have never been, and I am glad that I was not, as the most evil people that have been exposed in the last 20 years were the Paedophile Catholic Priests and also the Nuns that murdered thousands of children born to unwed mothers. Religion is EVIL and the Ministers and Priests are just plain EVIL.

There's alot of things my Dad didn't give me, there's alot of things he didn't show me, but he did show me how to love a woman . He loved my Mom with all his heart, he loved her faults as much as her qualities. He loved her as much in her old age as he did in her youth. And I'm sure that heaven seemed empty to him til the day she joined him.

There are a handful of songs that are so utterly beautiful, that speak so directly to our hearts, that combine lyrics and harmonies so completely perfectly, that convey the passage of time, the pain and joys of life, and the sacrifices we make for love, that they will be with us for all time, decades into the future. This is one of those songs.

A few years ago I was doing an article on insipid, sentimental pop songs and of course this one came to mind. I hadn't listened to it since I was a teen and it first came out, so I found it on UA-cam and listened to it again just to refamiliarize myself with the syrupy-sweet and shallow lyrics.
It took about 10 minutes after the song had ended for me to get myself under control.
My first wife and I divorced after seven years of marriage, and the end wasn't great. But the first six years were truly special. And it was amazing just how closely her personality back then matched that of "Honey."
But then things changed and and ultimately we separated and then divorced. She married again and I met the absolute love of my life and we've been together for 38 years.
But those initial six years with her were truly special. And I mourned the loss for quite some time. And then she died a few years ago and I was once again reminded of the happiness we'd had in our early years. (I've written about that here: probablydontlikeyou.wordpress.com/2014/03/02/not-sure-what-to-say-to-this/
It was sometime after that I was writing the article on soppy sentimental pop pieces and listened to Honey again for the first time since its initial airing back in 1968.
I never did write that article.

BEAUTIFUL and still brings tears to my eyes. I've been with my wifr sincr 1970 and she has battled cancer eight times. We have been so much, Our eldest son had a seizure disorder growing up, brain cancer his senior year of high school, and a paralizing stroke five years ago. Our younfest son had brain cancer at age 22 and died a year later. We have always worked to gether to make, with NO HELP from any one. My sister said I was a self made man because Nobody ever helped us. It has always been my wife (Sherry) and me against the world, but we made it. This song represents the love a couple SHOULD have for eacg other, like we do. Thank You for this wonderful video.

I was in 4th grade when it came out. And I too cry to this day every time I hear it. Mainly cause it reminds me of a weeping willow tree that was behind our house where I played. Weeping willows were my favorite. The summer between 4th n 5th grade we moved out of state due to dads need of work. Things went well. Dad retired eventually. We moved back into the country. He bought me a weeping willow. Dad has since passed away, the tree means everything to me. I miss dad horribly. But mainly the song just reminds me of playing under my (happy tree) as a child!

This same song that I thought was a mushy tune still brings me to tears now that I’m an old man in my 60s. I loved you Susan. I got to live a full life after you, got married, had a family etc…but I still miss you every day.

When I was a child and 6 years old I'm halfway through my life. This song was my favorite me and my mom was going down the street in a car we were going home I will never forget it and I told my mom this is a beautiful song and she was crying. Not too long after that I was 12 years old I lost my mom when she was walking cross the street and was hit and killed. But my mom told me even after we heard that song we would hear it again it was her favorite song. And after that yours later I had a daughter and I named the little dog honey bee. And she told me Willits the song that I love so much and I said no it wasn't honey bee was just that and on my license plate of my vehicle even today it said or says when God made honey bee he was just showing off. But that song was true to what my daughter said but honey bee was just that a little dog that brought out the best of my daughter and myself it was not only unbelievable she lives 16 years I put her down 2 years ago and I hear the song One More Time and it takes me back two maybe and young list eat two of my mother and knowing my daughter have truly knew that was my favorite song and in my life was and is and will be always the best dog the best song of My Life. No more to be said God bless

+Steve Robson - There are some songs.....
It's one thing to say the music is garbage... its another when even the generation whose music it is doesn't want it.
Look at the charts from ten years ago, and show me more than a handful of new artists that are still making albums.
Then look at the charts from the 70s, 60s, 50s, and even 40s, and you'll find many artists/groups that you'd love to hear another song from today. Sinatra? Presley? The Stones? Beatles? Buddy Holly? Chubby Checker? Andrews Sisters? Perry Como? Carpenters? They outperform Joe, Vertical Horizon, Savage Garden, Destiny's Child, 3 Doors Down, Pink, etc. - the chart toppers from 2000.
Oh; you also had Santana from the 70s, Creed from the 70s, Madonna from the 80s, .... all on the charts in 2000... but when's the last time you heard anyone play, or even mention, Savage Garden? Pink?
      Sisqo had the "Thong Song"
      Sinatra had "My Way"
Which will live on through time?
2000 gave us "Oops!... I Did It Again!", "Wifey", "Party Up (Up In Here)", and "Case of the Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)"
1955 gave us "Sixteen Tons", "Mr. Sandman", "Unchained Melody", and "The Ballad of Davy Crockett"
....any guesses which songs will still be played or sung in another 20 years?

How do you know it's our present generation? Because we love these songs. You must not know very well then because one of the things we've said is the love songs that we have now are nothing compared to songs like this. Plus, this happens to be one of my favorite songs of all time. You can't always assume it's the "present generation"

This song came out when I was 8 and I loved it , even tho I couldn't really understand that kind of loss then. When I lost the love of my life in 1999, I played this song over and over and I cried buckets. Even now, when I listen to it, the buckets of tears fill up. There's something so universal in this song, it touches so many in that same tender place and we can all relate. That kind of connection gives me hope that people really can support each other in a loving way.

this song was released less than a month after I was born. I remember listening to it on my uncle's truck radio when I was 6-7 as he and his friends sat in the front yard drinking and laughing and bullshitting. The moment I hear Bobby's voice I'm that age again back to a house that hasn't existed in over 40 years running around the yard barefooted playing with my toys watching my Nana do her housework and my Tata doing his gardening. It was a beautiful time and when I hear this song my heart nearly breaks with the longing to be back there. I miss my youth so much for many reasons but my god I miss that time and all the people from it that have been gone for decades now. I miss being a happy kid so very very much.

I cry every time I hear this song. My wife of 36 years is nicknamed Honey by our two grandkids. If she goes before me I may have this played at her memorial. There won't be a dry eye in the place. It will probably rock the funeral home personnel as well. I remember when this song came out. I was a child.
