I appreciated you explaining your pathway to Cardiology! I loved that you discussed your honest reasoning for ruling in/out each specialty you considered and what you were weren't willing to compromise to make an interest fit. Many students think that you need to know what you want to do 100% going into medical school, but it is important to explore other fields to properly rule out other careers. A great share for new med students!

This video couldn’t have come at a better time. Started my 3rd year of med school a few weeks ago. Coming into medical school I thought for sure I was going to urology. After 3 rotations I’m strongly considering IM.

From what I’m seeing you went above and beyond academically in order to keep competitive specialties available if u ever wished to apply to them, and it worked out well.
But what if u weren’t competitive enough for cardiology?

      That's a great question.
I think something lost in the video is that as you progress through the journey - your interests also get shaped by your success.
Perhaps if I had been doing more research, accolades, etc - maybe fields even more competitive like Derm, Plastic surgery, etc. May have crossed my mind. But since I wasn't there competitively - I went elsewhere.
Same would have likely happened with cards. Maybe I would have tried to apply and then considered just continuing to be a Hospitalist with other times of medical ventures on the side.
