  • The Berlin Zoological Garden, affectionately known as "Zoo Berlin", is not just a place where you can watch pandas munching on bamboo - it's also a veritable treasure trove of wildlife and history. But let's take a look behind the scenes and find out what makes this zoo so special, and put a smile or two on our faces in the process.
An animal potpourri: biodiversity at Zoo Berlin
When you enter Zoo Berlin, you might think you've landed in a very special chapter of a fantastic storybook, where animals from all over the world live together peacefully. Here, the majestic king of beasts, the lion, meets the shy okapi, a mixture of giraffe and zebra - or as I like to call it, the zebra monkey.
With over 20,000 animals from around 1,200 species, Zoo Berlin offers an impressive variety of species. From the tiny leaf fish that masterfully hides between plants to the gentle giants, the elephants, everything is represented here. The panda, the zoo's unofficial mascot, is undoubtedly the star of the show. With its cozy charm and fondness for bamboo, it has taken the hearts of visitors by storm. Not forgetting the penguins, who in their tails always seem ready to take part in an icy gala.
    A rich history
But it's not just the animals, the history of the zoo is also fascinating. Founded in 1844, Berlin Zoological Garden is the oldest zoo in Germany and the ninth oldest in the world. It was none other than Alexander von Humboldt, the renowned naturalist, who supported the idea of founding the zoo. Imagine that: A zoo co-initiated by one of the most famous scientists in history - it's as if Albert Einstein had built the first roller coaster in an amusement park!
Over the years, the zoo has overcome many challenges, including the devastation of the Second World War. During this time, the animal population dwindled to an alarmingly small size. But like a phoenix from the ashes, Zoo Berlin rose again and underwent an impressive reconstruction that made it one of the most renowned zoos in the world.
A day at the zoo: fun experiences
A visit to Zoo Berlin can be a truly amusing experience. Do you remember the monkey that steals the children's chips? Or the seals that chatter so loudly that they drown out the entire zoo? And then there are the clever meerkats, who almost challenge us humans with their curious looks and attentive poses. They stand upright like little sentinels, always ready to inspect - and presumably judge - every visitor.
The next time you visit Zoo Berlin, remember that you are not only immersing yourself in an animal paradise, but also in a living piece of history. And who knows, maybe you'll come across a zebra monkey or be surprised by a cheeky monkey who steals a piece of your snack. A visit to Zoo Berlin is always an adventure, and one thing is certain: it's never boring!
    REMARK:
Unfortunately, the animals were too far away from the camera. Unfortunately, there were also many animals in the cages because the enclosure was being cleaned. At the end of the movie I integrated pictures taken with the camera with zoom lens.
    Enjoy the walk! 🚶🏻🐒🦁🦒🐘🐅
