    You need to ABSOLUTELY not be a rules lawyer to play this game. It is very much a game of role playing. I love it.

      Very much down to the GM, one of the few times I ran Ghostbusters, I punished a player for Rules Lawyering by letting what he was doing work, but totally undoing it in my description. And he totally took the hint.
      Such a great fast moving rule system, just gets out of the way and lets you have fun.

    Great rules breakdown, thank you Freddy. I've always admired this game's mechanics. The Ghost die is brilliant since it raises the stakes when players are making rolls. Whenever the Ghost appears, it always feels like its come at the right time, narratively. When I ran this game, I made the mistake of giving players far too many brownie points & they started to abuse them. Still, we all had a great session! Hope you & your family are doing well, take care!

      Going through it I really came to admire how well the system works, the Ghost Die is fantastic, a bit of a pity they dropped the wild die for 1st Edition Star Wars, but fortunately brought it back in the later ones. And the Brownie Points as a combined Experience point, hit point and bonus dice system, really is quite innovative and fun.

    Actually playing a Ghostbusters campaign and it's fun so far. We have our first bust next session as last session was Session 0.

      I ran a Ghostbusters adventure last halloween, and it went down great. My players have even asked me to go back and run it again even though I made it clear it was a one shot. Great game, hope your group has an absolutely great time with it.

    Surprisingly as well as the earliest example of Westend Game's "d6 Syterm" it is the first example of a dice pool system in general.

    • @RPGGamer
      @RPGGamer  3 роки тому +4

      I'd never thought of Dice Pool being used that way, I'd always thought of it like Shadowrun, where you have a pool of dice and allocate them some of them to tasks, for example the Storyteller system and Shadowruns dice pools for defence. The D6 system, you lose generally lose a dice for each extra action rather than allocating dice from your pool.
      But now you've said, I can see that this is a totally relevant way of using the title, and I've probably been misunderstanding the term all these years.

      @@RPGGamer Yeah "dice pool" covers quite a board range of rule sets.

    Personally, I think this game's combat system needs to be entirely revamped and upgraded. I've introduced a health and stamina (action points) system and still have a bunch of stuff to work out

      There are many variants of the D6 system out there, introducing health systems and the like. For what this game is though, and incredibly light game system works pretty well. Ran a game of it last halloween, and my players had a great time, think they want to return to it this year again.

    If the game wasn’t in legal limbo, I would love to buy a Ghostbusters RPG box set.

      It's sad how many games just disappear due to licencing issues.

      Thank you for the kind comment, after having only played Ghostbusters back in the 80's when it came out, I ran a Halloween game and we had an absolutely great time. Classic game.

    Thanks again for this helpful video 😊... I understand the ranged attack, ect, I think my main question is how do you "trap the ghost" is there a game mechanic to it, or do you just photon them till you knock off thier ectopresence; then auto trap them as long as you have two or more ghostbusters? or do you have to roll to see if the ghost is in the trap? I know I can add my own rules for that if I want, but I just wanted to know if there was an official way.

    • @RPGGamer
      @RPGGamer  10 місяців тому +1

      Once a ghost is defeated (basically as soon as they're hit and have taken damage), 1 Proton pack can hold a ghost in place, and 2 can manipulate it into place for trapping. Because the first is holding the Ghost in place, the second Ghostbuster only needs a basic success to hit and help wrangle the ghost into the trap.
      The system is pretty freeform, so lets the GM decide how things go.

      @RPGGamer that's cool, I like that. I had a feeling it was something that simple, but I always like to be sure. Is that also the same for the revised edition?

    I love that game. I still use it once a year around Halloween.

      Its a cool game, and I was surprised at how well thought out the rules were. As I expected them to be pretty flawed. Glad to hear someone's still playing it and having fun with it.

    are you going to explain how to bust the ghost in the game?

    • @RPGGamer
      @RPGGamer  Рік тому +2

      Nope, neither am I going to explain how to conspire with the dark in Dark Conspiracy, give the telephone number of Cthulhu so you can call him in Call of Cthulhu, or how to Trek the Stars in Star Trek.
