- From not wanting to get married to now, it's insane that I just celebrated seven years of marriage.
As someone who didn't grow up in a household where I saw happy and healthy relationships- this is a pretty huge milestone. It's not a huge milestone because I've been married for this long- but because of the type of marriage Dejan and I cultivated.

Slim, there is no one I follow on UA-cam that I root for more than you, I'm so glad your relationship makes you this happy and may it keep on like that for ever ! The fact that you knew and got married in 6 months and it's still working, what a beautiful love story! Also these boho braids suit you so much and growing up in Africa (my country at least), ludo was the best game during summer. Happy belated anniversary, I have been surrounded by many examples of good marriages, my parents were married 52 years until my fathers death, an uncle and aunt who have been married 70 years friends who have been married 30+ years, was it all smooth sailing no, did they want to bail at times? Yes, but they figured stick it out communicate and don’t allow the fire in your marriage to burn out, happy bantering is part of their marriage, they also made time for each other, yes they all had kids, your definitely doing it right, they also did not take each other for granted, after almost 70 years do they still dress up for each other and have fun? Yes indeed, they have a partnership and they have love and respect for each other
all of this-YES! ofc it's been hard- thats totally normal when you've been with someone for so long. I believe it's how you get through those hard times that says it'll. then when you both come out of it the other side- you're stronger and better for it (as individuals and as a couple). I'm so happy you've had great examples of healthy love! it's a beautiful thing to witness.

Im absolutely terrified of marriage. When you said you didnt see positive examples, I fully resonate with that. How did you know it was okay to say this is okay?
I saw who he was as a person. I saw how kind he was- not only to people he knew- but also people who could offer him nothing. I think it’s easy to be kind and generous to people you know- but how you treat people that are strangers say a lot about a person.
I also heard how he spoke about me when I wasn’t in the room (people would say in passing conversation he said positive things) and I knew he had my back when I wasn’t around.
Also- how he handled us being from different backgrounds and how he acknowledged my struggles as a person and black woman. He was and is very open to my world- and it didn’t feel hard. He was and is a safe space for me.
