Reger gilt nur auf der Orgel, sonst bleibt er ein selten aufgeführter bzw. gespielter Komponist. Da ändern auch die jüngsten Jubiläen 2016 und 2023 leider nicht viel. Gerade deswegen ein herzliches Dankeschön für diesen Upload.
Blomstedt dirigiert Reger's Opus Magnum auswendig. Ein Beleg, welche besondere Beziehung er zu Reger's Musik hat. Das ist ja unüberhörbar, eine phantastische Interpretation. Ich wüßte nicht, wer das überbieten könnte. Vielen Dank auch dem extrem lebendigen Orchester!

Obviously Blomstedt enjoyed conducting this work as much as I enjoyed hearing it. It was an exciting performance of a masterpiece, and his enthusiasm and countenance confirmed it.
Blomstedt is one of the few remaining Reger champions; he's so familiar with this piece he doesn't need a score. Look at him enjoying the sfz 17:22 like a kid.

The andante just before the fugue, starting 27:50 is such a great piece, always just skirting Wagner. All the strings are divisi in these parts. What's so special about this performance is Blomstedt at times turns this music into Reger's poignant human statement, for instance in the troubadour Fifth Var, taking a deep pause before going into 6/8 at 11:57

So viele schöne Menschen sehe ich in diesem Orchester. So konzentrierte Gesichter. Wunderbar.

I love Blomstedt's conducting. He has such a genial manner. I'm guessing the musicians think the world of him.

Unfassbar: Herbert Blomstedt ist 77 Jahre alt auf diesem Video, sieht aber mindestens 20 Jahre jünger aus. Er dirigiert immer noch, nun, da er 97 ist.
