I was one of those Franchisees victimised by pick n pays bullying tactics. The same 10 Million offered to Bra G, was also offered to me. I also refused it, they later took my store and sold it to some other franchisee and never paid me a cent. There are 26 other franchisees with similar stories. Today we are living in poverty, our names are tartmished and no resources to take on Pick n pay in court. I despise that brand to this day. some of us are ready to come to your show if need be. Great show King David

Sad indeed, to think that there are so many lawyers and advocates with no commercial experience. Coming together to take up this matter on a contingency basis whilst gaining experience would have been beneficial to both parties. Sad that as a black community ,we never pull our resources together to fight this injustice.

You introduced Pick n Pay in township you changed our mindset that it was for black people. They got a lot of support because of you but they way they treated you when you wanted out made some of us hate this shop. That you promoted with every thing you had.

@yaonemogwere6995 BLACK South Africans are the majority, they are the economic and labour backbone of South Africa. Sadly, the ANC negotiated kak, instead of organising Blacks to form companies (much in the way the Boers did after winning elections in 1948), they allowed status quo to stand. Today, white capital continues to make money from Black bodies, without putting anything back into the economy. Vodaphone is giving Makate grief because he doesn't have support. Black people should support him by boycotting Vodaphone. But I bet you not all people will comply because banomona!

My key personal learning was that "Start something with your own name rather than buying rights to use someone else's name". I learned the HARD way, a year back (2023) I lost my rights as a franchisee to one of the major national pawnshop brand because of their "EXORBITANT ROYALTY FEES" pushed me to bankruptcy and ended up losing the store and a monthly banking loan fees I have to pay from my own pocket. I can't even name them because within their contract there's a clause not to mention their name if you are not part of the store except when you are doing promotions with their brand. My advice, STAY AWAY FROM FRANCHISE BUSINESSES....

@26:20 Pick n Pay not being intended for the black market is the impression I had growing up. In my town, its location was inaccessible by taxis, and the only public transport available was for laborers, limited to mornings and evenings. At other times, you had to get off in town and walk. The atmosphere there was different; it was predominantly white and Afrikaans, and the black people you saw were usually in uniforms or domestic worker clothing. OK, later rebranded to Shoprite, was more for us (black people), Checkers catered to the emerging middle class, and Spar was somewhere in between. This is how I perceived the retail landscape in my town, Ermelo, growing up, so what he's saying resonates with me.

Franchise is the modern day slavery, my uncle had a Shell Service Station franchise about ten years ago, after 9 months of operating they saw the growth of the site and they came with a decision that the site needs to revamped, and the renovations took a year to complete mind you he's had a loan to settle every month, another stress. After renovations they came with new payment terms and charged the renovations on the franchisee's Bill it ended up in courts and site closing for almost three years

Not to sound racist however lets be honest all white organization behave like this towards black people . I can name a few corporates institutions we are on our own and if you defeat the system its divide and concur to eliminate you or turn you against your own people using the black business doesn't respect their own . Sad thing is we often fall prey to this techniques in 2024 . I pray and trust this interview opens up our people's minds trust me its not only in the franchise space its everywhere FCMG etc .

I can’t believe I got to the end of this. I usually watch the artist interviews on this channel but this was a welcomed surprise. Papa George’s story is so remarkable and I took so many lessons from a human level and great insights from a business perspective. Lovely episode, King David. I did feel that the questioning was leaning towards victim blaming but I realise that the purpose was to give context.

Great real-life interview on (retail) business 101 in the SA context! Mr Senosha is a champion and he should go on an online social media road show (Penuel black pen, SWMX etc) as well as varsity to educate the public and prospective african entrepreneur. Definitely write a hands-on book.
One more thing, this sad and inspiring story is a proof the ANC/Codesa was a big mistake. This is our country and we can´t be begging to own land and businesses.
A big shift in mindset and policy has to be undertaken, otherwise in 5,10,20 years we´ll be still crying foul like helpless children and as such shall be treated. Mr Senosha & the likes, plus the youth need to come together and make the shift NOT beg for it!
