Thank you for taking the time to film and edit the process along with concise explanations! I don't even own a CB or a bike with points, but your videos are very informative and easy to follow! I hope you are doing well. Take care!
Thanks for the excellent instructional video. This is the 3rd install I've done of this Dynatek electronic ignition on various Honda SOHCs but this time I wired it to the back brake wire as you suggested rather than use the dodgy clip that comes with the Dynatek. It was much simpler and cleaner using your method.
the dyna ignition comes straight from the factory at 180*. For certain Suzuki gs models the mechanical point mechanism only has timing marks on one side, so once you only adjust timing for the 1-4 and the 2-3 is done as well. Super awesome upgrade and well paired with the dyna coils
you say well paired with the dyna coils... you need to change the coils if your gonna upgrade to the dyna ignition or can you keep the factory coils. Thinking about the Suzuki GS450L.
I needed this video 9 months ago. I used the red wire with the splice connector that came with it....so far no problems. I connected it to one of the black and white wires coming from the coils. I used a timing strobe to fine tune it.
You can definitely here it firing on all four cylinders after the ignition swap. It sounds great with points too of course But you can definitely here a different sound. I bet it screams now. Great information Great video Thank you for taking the time to share. Awesomeness
Yes easy, everything required was in the box incl instructions, combined with this vid was straightforward. Just needed to static time afterwards with a lamp or continuity tester. There's a vid for that on here also 👍
Thank you so much, Taylor. The garbage instructions from Dyna are nowhere near as clear as this. Installed without issue on my '76 550 and fired up immediately first time :) Maybe I'm imagining things but pretty sure it sounds/runs 10x better already.
hey man, awesome video. saw it out of the corner of my eye but i see your running the rear hoop in the back. the tire will contact under hard bump. i have done it and it is not a good time; no amount of stiffer springs or pre-load adjustment will stop it. just a fore-warning.
Been using Dyna S ignitions on all my old Z and GS builds and they are the nuts!. My old Z650 has both dyna S ignition and dyna coils and it always starts the moment you hit the button, if you know anything about old Z's you will know how long they normally take to start. Good vid 👍
I wish you had made this video before I put my Dyna ignition on my bike last year. I like the way you did the red wire. I used that blue splicer that came with the unit. So far it's worked great, but another option would've been good.
nice vid...I ride a triumph speedmaster,but I have a 72 cb500 that's been sitting under a tarp,kinda for about 15yrs...been watching your vids,subbed,now I guess I gotta start project restore...thanks, I think.
I was working on my 75 Cb550f and was going to check the timing and found someone already put the newer style in. Im going to check it after i move and see if the timing is right etc. Thanks for the video.
I had one like that and it did about 140-150 got a death wobble in it and I shut it down and never took it that fast again. But they are rippers. I wish they had those electronic ignition when I was riding them.
Thanks for the great video, I own a 1970 CB 500k0, that will eventually have the original engine with a 600cc kit (new sleaves and pistons in a kit). I have the same electronic ignition system you installed, which is whst attracted me to this video, however, I would like to know more about the exhaust system, as I will need to get one for the bike and that sounded awesome. My bike, when it is eventually finished will be a cafe racer, with lots of different parts from different bikes on it. It won't be a daily ride, I'm not looking for that anymore (at 62 I've had too many friends die or get seriously injured for that) but I do want to do the occasional club ride etc.
Your videos have been a huge help! I’d buy you a beer if I was in Texas. I’m building my first bike, a 78 cb750ss and I was wondering if you have more 750 video.
i got lost where you use the test lamp to tune the advance for the 2 cylinder pairs ... when it lights up , where does the power come from ? 12v runs through the ignition plate ?
There is one setting that was left out of all the installs on You tube. That is the space between the magnet on the rotor and the 'pickups' on the modules. If set too far out the corresponding cylinders will misfire. I set mine but forgot what the setting was, maybe forty two thousands?? can you confirm the range??
Whoa what happened? You took off the old ignation plate and in the next shot you've got the new one on there. Would have liked to have seen the transition from the old to the new.
@@rh752 Well actually, the transisiton isn't there, but I after doing the gaps and timing on my cb550, I now understand the three bolts he removes (Timing 1&4). QUESTION: Did you cut off that plastic connector that turns the two red wires into one red wire? Curious how you rigged those up since there's two wires (assuming you're not using the extension). Did you crimp both red wires into one male bullet connector or did they each get their own? I have my Dyna hooked up and working great, but I used the crappy blue splicer it came with (spliced into the black and white wire near the coils) and I'm thinking about rewiring it with proper connectors now that I've gotten better at doing wiring. I have a couple different ideas that would work. Your way seems simple, I'm just a little confused about not using the extension that turns the red wires into one wire. I wish we could've seen the way you had those wires set up before you plugged them in. I have a four way connector that I think could work if I give each red wire it's own bullet terminal.
I’m an old-school 305 Honda scrambler rider. I remember when the Honda CB 450 came out. Do you ever get a chance to do anything on 450 would love to see it. Thanks
Do you need the advance arms and springs for the dynatek to work? Can it work without it? I have the Boyer ignition and the springs and arms have been taken off
Nice job, always returning to these instructional videos now that I am deslindar with my rebuilt F2 with everything new but nos parkas at the plugs. Probably would sound quite nice. I bought the Delkevic header and Cone Engineering silencer for my 550k and it sounds pretty awesome but is quite loud though. Tough to beat the sound of an inline 4 with a 4 into 1 exhaust imho especially if it's a Honda SOHC.
