How about Chris Doohan, He has been in several projects from The Motion Picture (uncredited though) to Into Darkness from the Kelvin timeline. Of course, we all know his dad as Scotty.
And he played Scotty in the fan made Star Trek Continues
@@dw7704 and voiced Scotty in Star Trek Online.
Doesn't sound like he's making that much money. When I think of a real Nepo Baby I think of someone with a high level position and high pay (relative to the field) when plenty of others without such connections would be more qualified and capable.
summing up the comments so far the big ones missed were
1. Chris Doohan in 3 movie roles, 2 uncredited
2. Robert Pine guest starred in Voyager and Enterprise before his son Chris was Kelvin Kirk
3. Shatner's daughters Leslie and Lisabeth were in "Miri" as only girl extras
4. Jeri Taylor was a writer and producer on TNG and VOY. Her son Alexander Enberg was Taurik on TNG and Vorik on VOY
I checked these on Wikipedia and Memory Alpha
Chris Doohan, son of Scotty actor James Doohan played a transporter chief in the first two Kelvin Timeline movies, because as Simon Pegg told JJ Abrams, "there should be a Doohan in the transporter room!" He even had a line of dialog in Star Trek Into Darkness!
Chris also played his father's role of Scotty in the fan funded Star Trek Continues Series! While not an offical production, Rod Roddenberry (son of Gene and a credited Producer on all modern Trek series) stated that he considered it canonical Star Trek.
Doesn't he also voice Scotty in STO...?
I'm not sure, but I don't play STO, so some other fan will have to confirm that.
I think it would be really cool to have both canonical LaForge daughters on the Enterprise-G. Especially if they are both, say, lieutenants. I can just hear Seven summoning them to her Ready Room, and saying "Having two Lieutenant LaForges on the bridge may result in confusion during critical events. I don't suppose you would be amenable to the designations One of Two and Two of Two? No?" "I didn't think so."
Neat, Seán and Steve Shives have the same favourite Trek episode.
Two great minds thinking alike.
Shives being a great mind speaks volumes.
The fantastic Amanda Plummer whose performance has very clear links to her father's in The Undiscovered Country.
Now I must see if this is sarcasm or if I learned something new today
EDIT: indeed true, nice 😂
Seconded. Two great villain performances.
I came here to comment about her. I was very surprised she was left out!
Having known Mica Burton from various geeky online stuff and only later realizing she was Levar's daughter, it's delightful to see her brought into Star Trek canon. And as always, it's fun when I get to see completely separate niche interests cross-over, such as Critical Role showing up in a TrekCulture list :)
I love that none of these folks were slackers when it came to their parts. Some weren't huge roles, but none of them felt like pure nepotism -- Mica probably is the biggest role out of all of these, and she nailed it! I really do hope we get Legacy so she can continue!
...and nepo parent...you know people don't seem to have issues with parents getting jobs because of their kids .
I would actually say there are more issues with that. Not a factor for Brionis....but just in general.
at least most of the nepo babies deserve the role they got. mom/dad just got them that little push.
Headcanon- Christian Slater is playing Kevin Riley’s son
You know, that's genius, that is.
Perfect! 👏
Why? Like, I'm not trying to argue. I'm just curious how you got there.
@@YooTubeSlave read my comment above
When I first saw the movie that thought popped into my head, partly based on how his line was delivered, and partly on his look.
You don’t have to agree, it’s just my personal head canon
That would be an interesting one if they actually made it official Canon
Now, how about a list of 10 Star Trek real-life couples? I can think of at least a few, and it would make a cool video!
Seconded!
This was a nice palate cleanser after all the chaotic news of the day.
I love all the dancing scenes at the end. Amazing how you squeezed so many in just a few seconds.
I eould love to see the LaForges in a Star Trek Legacy series. I cannot begin to relate how huge that Christian Slater cameo was in Star Trek VI for me as a kid.
Thanks Séan. I've been missing a reference to the classic episode Miri, with Darleen Anita Roddenberry, Dawn Roddenberry, Lisabeth Shatner, Melanie Shatner, Leslie Carol Shatner and even Scott Whitney.
You missed Robert Pine and Chris Pine.
I remember those Oldsmobile commercials from when I was in High School.
This may be apocryphal, but I think there's a story related by LeVar about Mica or vice versa, where instead of Mica being labeled, "Oh, you're LeVar's daughter," LeVar was labled, "Oh, you're Mica's dad," because of her popularity in cosplay and DnD spheres.
Perhaps. I know that Rooster Teeth fans shouted "nepotism" when they hired her.
Can't speak to the authenticity (or not) of the Burton story... But Apparently something similar happened with Ethan Hawke and his daughter Maya after Stranger Things crossed a certain level of Popularity; where he tried to wave off an autograph seeker; only to be informed they wanted a selfie with Maya
Both could easily have happened
We thought it was really sweet that Levar Burton's daughter got to play his daughter onscreen too, and especially sweet hearing how the 2 "sisters" in the show, actually chose to adopt each other as sisters in real life too. 🙂
Casting John DeLancie's son as Q's son? Masterstroke.
As for Christian Slater (and Alexander Enberg), if my mother was a casting director on Trek I'd probably use that connection to wrangle a cameo, too.
Mica Burton is fabulous! I'm glad she got the part.
What about Shatner’s daughter who was in “Miri”?
Gene Roddenberry's 2 daughters and Grace Lee Whitney's 2 sons were also in that episode.
That wasn't Melanie Shatner's Star Trek debut. She was one of the kids in the episode "MIRI." The "Onlies" also had her sister Lisabeth, Grace Lee Whitney's son Scott, Vincent McEveety's son Steven, and Gene Roddenberry's daughters, Darleen and Dawn as members of the gang.
What about Alexander Enberg, Jeri Taylor’s son? He played several parts in various Treks.
I was today years old when I realised that he is also Dick Enberg's son (and I watched a LOT of NBC as a kid). He has Jeri "Janeway creator/bible author" Taylor as his mum too??
Yuppers
Ray: "So, what's your deal?"
Slater: "What's my DEAL?!"
It does make sense to have an actors child play their child (assuming the kid can act at all) just cause it’ll look perfect
William Shatner's daughter, Lisabeth Shatner, appeared in the TOS episode "Miri" as an extra. She's the little red-haired girl Kirk carries near the end of the episode while he's calling the Enterprise.
The Visitor is one of my favorites as well.
Hey, Sean, you mentioned Adam Nimoy. What about his sister Julie??😊
Almost all of the children look like their parents. Especially Nemoy !
3:57 .... WHHAAAAATTTTT 😲😲😲
That means Walter Koenig lost his son already? Damn, that's sad.
Yes, it happened during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC. After Andrew went missing, Walter and his wife flew up there to look for him, but unfortunately discovered what happened to him a few days later.
What's even more sad is that I'm pretty sure Andrew Koenig didn't die peacefully... I clearly remember hearing news that Andrew had vanished mysteriously and had been dead for a bit when finally found.
EDIT: Just did a basic Google search. Andrew was found in Vancouver BC's Stanley Park by loved ones on Feb 25, 2010...dead to apparent suicide via hanging, two weeks after missing a flight to LA from Vancouver and going radio silent.
Absolutely nothing wrong with being a Nepo baby. To be able to say that my parents loved me enough to help me get my very first job it’s a beautiful thing.
Now if you rely on your parents to get you every job, then THATS a problem.
I don't think the issue people have with Nepotism is that their parents helped them get their first role, part of a parents job is to help their kids succeed in life, it's when they say "I made it on my own" or "it was my all my own hard work".
We've seen many second and even third generation actors now, and many have earned their roles through hard work and being good, even though their parents may have made the first steps easier, and acknowledge, yep, my parents helped, but the rest was me.
Doesn't nepotism mean that they 100% rely on their parents to get them every job?
@@GabePuratekuta Nope. “Nepotism is the act of granting an advantage, privilege, or position to relatives or friends in an occupation or field.”
@@ginsugray5469 Either way, most of the people mentioned in this don't belong in this list.
Just saw the 4th episode of Disco and OMG I cannot believe this character was brought back for this episode! I am ELATED! I LOVED this characters arc. I only wish we saw more of them.
Andrew Koenig also starred in Batman: Dead End as The Joker. IMO, the best live action Batman fan made film ever.
You forgot to mention Andrew Koenig was also famous for Playing Richard "Boner" Stabone in the 80s sitcom Growing Pains
6:18 At least they snuck in a Boner Stabone clip from the Our Town play episode of Growing Pains where he turns on his tape player because he couldn't remember his lines.
I’m glad to hear that the visitor is your favourite Star Trek episode as it is mine as well.
I've met Mica before, back when she worked at Rooster Teeth. She's so God damn sweet.
It's not really "Nepo", if the actor is qualified. Mind you, it has already been shown multiple times (even in your video here) that family ties are not enough.
The only time where you can actually make a reasonable Nepo accusation would be Christian Slater in Startrek VI, but even there you have a case for a very talented and popular A-lister (at the time) being cast for a cameo for the audience's delight and to entice newer viewers.
My favorite thing on this list is that Farrell and her character were mistreated on DS9 and in the end, she became the unofficial queen of all of Star Trek.
Hello from Philadelphia!
Mckenzie Westmore. She did small parts on several trek series and daughter of Michael Westmore.
I love the visitor. I enjoy the episode
Good to know. Thanks.
This must just be on screen because what about THE nepotism baby of nepotism babies EuGENE Roddenberry!
Django, son of Nana Visitor and Alexander Siddig, was on DS9 as in utero Kiriyoshi. 😉😆
Looks like William Shatner's daughter only seems to get a gig if her dad is there.
Lal was Lizzie's mom?! 🤣
I think Christian Slater was in the movie at George Takei''s request.
1:00 If he had to audition, and he won that audition fairly, then he's not a nepo baby. Nepotism is what happens when someone gets a job they would not have had a chance of getting if not for the influence of someone on the inside.
Also, did his dad have any pull with the producers? He wasn't a part of the regular cast.
A part 2 idea could be in universe nepo babies.
Be a neat continuation of the idea.
Did I miss something? You showed a quick clip from TOS "Miri" but didn't mention that episode with Shatner's kid in that scene? Did I blank on that? Someone tell me I missed it.
What about Majel Barrett who played Nurse Chapel in the original series and then in TNG, Deep space and voyager as the voice of the computer. I am not 100% of the timeline as when she meet Gene but married in 1969. I think at the very least she should have gotten an honourable mention.
"Nepo baby" refers to nepotism between parent and child, so she wouldn't count for this specific video. She would probably be better in a video for real-life couples who met on Star Trek, like Alexander Siddig and Nana Visitor.
Hol up... Bashir and Kira got married?!?!?
Jeez, I'd no idea... I feel like I've had my head in the sand.
Oh!... 😢 They were only together for 4 years...😢
No mention of father / daughter duo Carlos and Rylee Alazraqui (Adm. Buenamigo and Rok-Tahk, respectively)?
Wow! I didn't know about Mica Burton.
Christian Slater's the only one on this list that was cast due to nepotism, though. The others mentioned just so happened to be children of Trek alum.
You seriously didn't put Alexander Engberg on this list??? He's the son of TNG/VOY executive producer Jeri Taylor and that's the sole reason he got to play two guest roles in TNG and the recurring role of Vorik in VOY.
Saying that The Offspring tackled gender identity is a stretch. Yes there was a point at the beginning where Data let her choose her gender, but it wasn't explored as a main theme in the show. It was moved past very quickly. Maybe you could argue they were hinting at it, but it didn't really have anything to say about it. Especially since the character very literally and scientifically started out with no gender at all.
How about father & son guest stars across multiple series - William Morgan Sheppard (RIP) & Mark Sheppard.
What about Alexander Enberg (Vorik/Taurik/ and reporter from Time’s Arrow) he’s Jeri Taylor’s son
i liked Lul wished she stayed on like Alexander, and show her grow a bit.
Love mica
What about shatners daughter in the TOS episode with the kids? Is that an urban legend?
Lisabeth Shatner in the episode "Miri." She's the little girl with red hair.
My dude. You forgot Gene Roddenberry's son, Eugene Wesley "Rod" Roddenberry Jr. And from a glance at the comments, it looks like there might be enough suggestions for a second 10 Nepo-whatevers video.
LAL WAS IN THE GOLDEN GIRLS WHAT
Shatner’s then-wife took over the nav station for Ilia in ST-TMP.
Hee, in my group's Trek roleplaying/Larping before they called it that/fanfiction continuity it was our custom to kind of name actors to imitate if anyone had to step into a lower-decker/recurring walkon role. So when we went as a crew to see Star Trek VI we were like, 'Holy *@&@^, it's Ed Newton! ' :) ) (He even had a good-sized part, alongside Janice Rand, in a Star Trek VII novel/script we were pitching, which was in large part based on Sulu's Excelsior, with most of the rest of the story involving familiar characters in new roles. Like, Sarek was abducted by Andorian separatists while trying to negotiate a peace, so Spock and McCoy end up trying to rescue *him* ...anyway, we thought it was pretty good. All worked into five-act Shakespearean comedy format.
(I can't help but think some of that somehow percolated into Enterprise, ...it did involve a sensor-spoofing Romulan ship sowing discord and in a very different way a blind Andorian seer who wasn't a whole different subspecies, but happened to be notably pale and ...just uncanny at times.) (Also don't panic, Paramount, I wouldn't dream of suing over a thing like that, you litigious.... Ahem. It's called fandom. You should just treat it better. :) ) (Also yeah, I also had Andoria as a *moon,* not just cause it's cool, but cause it was about the only way I could figure there could be a Class M world around the star Epsilon Indii from the original Tech Manual. :) (Also, sci-fi franchises, stop implying all worlds are monoclimates, it doessn't make a lotta sense. :) )
If Legacy happens, they will need to rework Seven's number one as the Captain and first officer should not be in a relationship. It is still starfleet. Also, if Picard's son is still on the ship they need a real position for him, not just an extra seat with a fake title.
While some people frown on "nepo babies" at least on star trek they used them right
After all when you have parent/child playing parent/child in a single episode its a perfect blend
In the case of John de Lancie's Don playing his son in a Voyager episode who would have been better? He literally got to watch his father do the role and was able to in essence create a child version of Q
Keegan has his father's nose. Patrick's son doesn't get his nose until he's in his 40-50s.
(Insert Obligatory Wesley Crusher Joke Here)
Star Trek Nepo partners next?
Andrew Koenig is best known for playing Boner on the hit 80’s show Growing Pains!
2:36 that moment is hilarious, where is that from?
A car commercial for Audi called "The Challenge." A must-watch!
I'm guessing from what he said, it's from "For The Love of Spock"
@@videofox thanks I'll definitely hunt it down
@@videofoxthat commercial still gets me rolling. So great.
Wasn’t a Shatner daughter in Miri?
0:12 yeah, he's holding Lisabeth Shatner in this scene.
@@ChuckingDice thanks! I gotta pay attention better.
I wanna know, what you're thinking. Tell me what's on your mind. Pure energy.
I can’t resent any of these guys
Hi
Christian Slater is still a very good looking guy, I'm a straight man but hey , good looking is good looking !
3
A small sad note with Mica's history prior to Picard Season 3: she was part of Rooster Teeth from 2015 (in the movie Lazer Team) to 2018, leaving the company due to racial issues (mostly because racist and misogynistic viewers attacked her at every turn and the creators refused to deal with them in the belief of trying not to feed the trolls)
You left off Chris Pine!
Its time to let Legacy go. Seriously, at this point the only hope left for Legacy is that the Lower decks cancellation was a move to make financial room for Legacy. If they were going to do it, SOMETHING would have been announced on first contact day. The LD cancellation was there to make sure we get this point if somehow it STILL wasnt clear.
Its not going to happen and clinging onto hope at this point without some sort of evidence is insanity.
I have no problem with the son, daughter or other family member getting a role in the same show as another family member, as long as they are qualified and do a good job. Sounds like, for the most part, many of those on this list did, in fact, do a good job in their role. I feel it is a tad unfair to call them nepo babies.
Christian was hot back then. People wanted to see him. That’s not nepotism.
"professional cosplayer"
what a world
I guess she never had to work much in her life thanks to her father's wealth, so she needed to find a way to keep herself busy and fight boredom.
Your interpretation of “nepotism” is far from accurate.
Even with all the New Trek episodes, "Q2" is my least favorite of all the Q episodes. Sorry, but it just...wasn't very good.
