I'm so glad I found your channel. You are extremely talented and you seem like a nice guy. I will be watching all of your videos over the next few days. :-)
Its all beautiful! I am so excited to see your upcoming projects! The tree planting is especially interesting to me! I am excited fir you! Enjoy the snow
my friend you have a truly beautiful piece of land it is absolutely picturesque your Ingenuity in construction skills are top-notch my friend thank you for sharing ! God Bless ! Happy New Year!
Don't worry about the shakiness. You're living in a unorthodox house creating your own energy out material growing on your land. The last thing I would think of is a shaky camera.
Just found your channel about a month ago, Went back and watched old vids to catch up. You are amazing dude, love your content !!!Keep the uploads coming. Peace and health too you from Northern US.
Fantastic update kris, maybe you could expand and break it down into several other videos, perhaps your reasons for going this way in your life, another about the land, another on general lifestyle(if you’ve left full time work behind etc) ... thanks in advance
Kris, I am chuffed to bits for you, not often I get envious of folk but.... Its all looking solid and fabulous. Great stuff. I hv not noticed shake on the camera, so maybe that's just the perfectionist in you. Have a very happy Christmas. Keep warm. 😇
Your videos are fine...you are your own worst enemy. lol I live in Michigan in the USA and we have about 5 inches of snow on the ground but we've been forecast to get up to 2 feet more that never showed up. Enjoy your snow.
How pretty, all that light powdering all around. You've done so well with your block of land, mate. Good job! That shaky cam isn't too bad in my opinion, I've certainly seen worse. Also, I hope your roof hold up!
The shake isn't that bad Kris and until you mentioned it i hadn't really noticed, this is your first winter isn't it? If you do need to get out in your car and you can't get traction, not everyone knows to just let the air out of your tyres until they are nearly flat then that gives them a larger footprint and increases traction but be careful not to let too much out and or you will drive with the rims on the ground which could damage them and even pop a tyre off if your too aggressive when driving with low tyre pressure, when you get unstuck pump them back up, you have got a beautiful place there
Kris, grab yourself an older 4x4 Pickup. A decent Nissan Navara with a good Chassis for £4-5k . It'll make your life easier picking up equipment and stuff. I got one 3rd hand, 95k miles, tow bar, truck bed moulded lining, king cab for £4500. If you've moved permanently from London, then definitely grab one. Also a you need a little tractor for that acreage and mass tree planting. Everything in West Wales is 20miles away, i spend ages going back and forth across pembrokeshire picking up this, borrowing that, from friendly neighbours.
Think it's amazing what you are doing bud. Living the dream. Love the foraging videos to Craig doesn't seem a bad lad to know can learn slot from him lol. Hoping to get to Pembroke and have a go soon only live 45 minutes away be silly not to lol
You should be warm in the house you did a very good job when building. I'm getting snow at the moment 8 inches expected here in Michigan USA..anyway Merry Christmas Kris..and a Good 2018
Before you get a stabilizer, which is probably the right thing to do; you could do a video making some DIY designs. The simplest one is to put the camera on a stick, with a weight on the other end, then usually you can just hold the stick but some joints would improve it further.
Have you considered keeping Muscovy ducks? I keep two, they produce very large eggs and are very hardy girls. They are very active fly and insect hunters too, which might be handy in the summer!
Kris, how did you do over the prolonged winter season in the UK with the recent 2017-2018 winter being a bit of a beast!? Even in my flat I was nearly freezing to death but the thought of a nice open and hot fire must be comforting.
Good question, i'd be interested as well. Initially, I was thinking bass..not sure if bass could handle the snow. Be nice to 3x the size of the pond and put in some trout:)
I put a few trout in there. only 4 i think so i think it must be one of those i am seeing. but i am planning to get it stocked with rainbow trout once its finished. i still have some work to do with the digger around it.
Hi Kris . i love watching the journey. Can you tell me how you obtained the land and how large is the parcel? Do you need a building permit where you are? Curious.
If your able extend the pond Kris, it may be a good fishing venture, may need small hut though? Nice area dude, I look forward to your next video, are u close to any fresh water rivers?
If you don’t like sitting in the rain, build a simple overhang 2 or 3 meters behind where you normally want to sit with the bench. Leave the bench under the overhang so it doesn’t get wet when it rains, pull it forward on days you want to sit in the sun. That way it is always a place to sit comfortably rain or shine.....of course I would set up the overhang so it could support my hammock as well and some days lay in the hammock for a nap by the pond......just another idea....... Nice video, better than my shaky vids. Go on UA-cam and search “stabilize shaky video.” Several other vloggers explain how to use various software to stabilize the video, some of those softwares you may already have on your computer. I haven’t seen your recent vids, watched all you had up to the point I was watching and didn’t subscribe (sorry), place looks great. Happy new year.
Kris Harbour- I have a feeling that you will get plenty of interest by women who have a similar dream, friend. And congrats on your beautiful home-from a long time fan on the Pacific northwest coast of North America.
well i can assure you they are not queuing up outside. i am just going to do what i do and see if i meet someone. there isnt really a dating app for people who want to live in the woods! thanks for the comment. glad you are enjoying.
Kris Harbour right from now on I'm Shreck , as I am green with envy again. It's no good. I am going to have too stop watching your videos. Not. Looking good Kris.
Kris Harbour I have been wondering about that for a while now. Sorry to hear about that. Regardless of if it was a bad or good break up it we all know it feels like crap. You have a lot to be proud of with what you have done here. Besides sometimes it's good to some alone time plus you have a lot to keep busy with. Cheers and sorry to hear about that.
you dont need permission if you fund it yourself. but because i a, getting paid to do it by a government insentive to pant trees rthey have a but iof a say what i plant.....the stupid part is, if i i dont plant that area it will just grow over anyway with willow. so i will just fund planting that area myself i think.
Quick top to stop the shaky video. just get a cheap pocket tripod the small ones the size of a small umbrella, thats all you need. attach camera then keep the legs folded and hold on to the legs.
i think they are about £250 for a decent one. not cheap by any means. but that is exactly the kind of thing the patreon money is good for. so i might invest at some point.
Or charge for visits / help. I would pay for a weekend helping. Think I have bugged you 3 times now lol and not going to stop. I think when the work shop starts you will need a little bit of help, due the the scale of it.
Hahah, that's snowed in?! Hahaha! I'm in Manitoba, Canada and when I get snowed in it because our driveway has a fifteen foot long, five foot deep, rock hard snow drift at the end!
I don't get how that's relevant to this, it´s too completely different situations. What is essentially a mud/gravel road that no one clears the snow of in a place that hardly gets any snows is of course hard to drive on with a vehicle not built for the job, I don't even know if winter tires is a requirement there? What you just wrote is only slightly less stupid than the other, related but dumber, comment along the lines of "You think that's cold, where I live that is (insert random piece of clothing or outside activity) weather" :P
You don’t have to. You can fund it yourself but wales has a declining forested area so there is a grant where they pay you to plant on your land. So I am talking advantage of that. I get the trees for free. A small payment to manage them each year and future firewood. So it’s a good deal for me.
Its nudge theory...E.g you offer incentives to improve things. Buy an electric car get a tax break, buy solar panels have a feed in tariff tax break, let some of your land go fallow or act as natural flood mitigation the Government will give you payouts. The consequences of Over-farming in the UK are expotential because we are tiny. States like Idaho or Oklahoma would be like huh? We have tons of space.
Snowing hard there... haha! I love it when the UK gets snow. Just a skiff of white and they get so excited. You should check out My Self Reliance’s channel and see the METER plus of snow they have had in Canada in 2018-19 winter. Besides my laughing at that, love your channel and content, Chris! Keep the videos rolling!
I'm so glad I found your channel. You are extremely talented and you seem like a nice guy. I will be watching all of your videos over the next few days. :-)
Man, you are so lucky being able to live so close to nature.... So much space, your own home and diy electricity supply... That is so cool !
What a cool setup! Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Everything is coming along nicely; thanks for the tour.
This is brilliant Kris, I love that you're slowly upgrading and we're getting to see the progress, love it.
Just found your channel and wanted to say, "Excellent, love it."
Nice, love how you got a grant for planting trees. Lovely
Your channel is mezmorizing. I've enjoyed watching you work. Keep it up!
Magic, an overall plan. You are well on the way Kris. Keep us informed! I think the camera looks fine. I wouldn't worry about it.
Don't worry about the shakiness. You're living in a unorthodox house creating your own energy out material growing on your land. The last thing I would think of is a shaky camera.
Looking amazing and WOW that's a lot of trees! Keep planting! and stoke the fire up and stay warm.
Just found your channel about a month ago, Went back and watched old vids to catch up. You are amazing dude, love your content !!!Keep the uploads coming. Peace and health too you from Northern US.
Love your setup Kris! Thanks for showing us around.
Amazing kris! We gonna have to come see you soon! 😃
Nice to see its all coming together it takes time and help from friends but one thing u will always find something else to build
Another Great video Chris. I always enjoy your videos. Keep them coming...
Steve fm Oregon USA
Isn't snow magical? Love it!
A good update Kris, nice to see it all after 1 + years.
Good for you getting the grant.
I would die for to live somewhere like this, seems so peaceful
Fantastic update kris, maybe you could expand and break it down into several other videos, perhaps your reasons for going this way in your life, another about the land, another on general lifestyle(if you’ve left full time work behind etc) ... thanks in advance
Kris well done, the place looks great. Your living the dream 👍
Kris, I am chuffed to bits for you, not often I get envious of folk but.... Its all looking solid and fabulous. Great stuff. I hv not noticed shake on the camera, so maybe that's just the perfectionist in you. Have a very happy Christmas. Keep warm. 😇
Thank you, merry christmas to you to :)
The wood is going to absorb ice cold water since he didn't bother to finish it. I doubt he'll have an easy time staying warm.
A leaf blower is quite handy to keep walkways clear if the snow gets heavier,
Hope to see the progress you've done on the inside of the House! Really enjoy the content!
beautiful, i am a bit envious of the quiet.(main road dweller). your getting there, all that hard work paying off.
Thank you for sharing. Great update! I hope you have a Merry Christmas! And enjoy this wonderful time of the year. Blessings...
love your climate over there, much more mild than USA. A few of those trees are fantastical.
Just found your videos. You are so lucky. Hope things are going good.x
Wanted to wish you a Happy Christmas Kris!
Cool that you have your own waterfall !!
really enjoyed watching you get to here. Well done mate cracking channel
Your videos are fine...you are your own worst enemy. lol I live in Michigan in the USA and we have about 5 inches of snow on the ground but we've been forecast to get up to 2 feet more that never showed up. Enjoy your snow.
Get that fire burning dude look out the window ..living the dream sweat fair play mate ✌
I have a Feiyu G3 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal, to use with my gopro. Brilliant bit of kit and not to bad on price compared to others
How pretty, all that light powdering all around. You've done so well with your block of land, mate. Good job!
That shaky cam isn't too bad in my opinion, I've certainly seen worse.

Looking good once you have that Hydro up and running a day like that shouldn't really affect your power income thanks for the video update
Thats so sick man!! Well done!!
Lovely, Kris!!!

Kris is a renaissance man.
Think it's amazing what you are doing bud. Living the dream. Love the foraging videos to Craig doesn't seem a bad lad to know can learn slot from him lol. Hoping to get to Pembroke and have a go soon only live 45 minutes away be silly not to lol
Pretty cool! You should consider building a garage for your car. It will increase its life span significantly.
You should be warm in the house you did a very good job when building. I'm getting snow at the moment 8 inches expected here in Michigan USA..anyway Merry Christmas Kris..and a Good 2018
very nice place you have there
The video is real good here,
Get a mail order bride. And become happy time to enjoy it mate. CHEERS from Silverton Oregon.
Brilliant video, loved this one!
thats exactly what i am doing. its all in the plan that has been approved :) thanks for the comment.
Would be nice to see a video on the plan aswell.
awww snow, so nice!!
You are Blessed to have all that, not lucky ;-)
Great stuff. Can we have a cabin update, interior etc ?
Hi Kris, did need planning for his site? Did you buy as woodland or as a devlopment "plot"
Thatch your big house with the reeds from the protected habitat Chris
Probably cheaper than a stabalizer, couldnt you get a wide angle lenze / zoom out, then use editing to stabalize and zoom back in
very cool
Before you get a stabilizer, which is probably the right thing to do; you could do a video making some DIY designs. The simplest one is to put the camera on a stick, with a weight on the other end, then usually you can just hold the stick but some joints would improve it further.
matthias wandel has a video about it:The steadycam you already own (but didn't know)ua-cam.com/video/gf7lLjgekng/v-deo.html
Ziraya0 some rubber bands would be a good idea, with a wooden frame.
Very nice
It does not matter if the video shakes a bit sometimes, it's the content that counts.
Have you considered keeping Muscovy ducks? I keep two, they produce very large eggs and are very hardy girls. They are very active fly and insect hunters too, which might be handy in the summer!

Even in my flat I was nearly freezing to death but the thought of a nice open and hot fire must be comforting.
Nice to have an update on how things are looking and holding! How are you coping with electricity until your water system is up?
Just got a foot of snow here in eastern Canada... I love snow, but meters upon meters of snow 5 months a year gets tiring lol
Maybe for your future plans you could waterproof your structures so they don't rot
Did you stock the pond with fish? If so details? Thanks!
Curious.
I have the same questions.
Unfortunately you, need them, unless you don't give a dam.
And find a remote parcel, and don't plan on ever selling improvements
Can I also ask, how did you get permission to build?
If your able extend the pond Kris, it may be a good fishing venture, may need small hut though? Nice area dude, I look forward to your next video, are u close to any fresh water rivers?
built a bench for your little pond :)
thats a good idea. that shall go on the list ready for spring.
If you don’t like sitting in the rain, build a simple overhang 2 or 3 meters behind where you normally want to sit with the bench. man i wish i lived somewhere where it snowed, all we get is fires :(
Hiya,
Would you mind telling me how you managed to purchase land ?. I want to homestead but currently living in Brighton. The snow was cool
Looking good, brilliant. Where do you live?
Will the water still flow if it freezes on top?
How many acres is it you are occupying?
I fucking love this channel
How did you get permission to build?
Nice
Kris, how much did you pay for the land if you don't mind me asking? how many acre?
Brilliant! All of your hard work has paid off Kris! Are you there alone these days, I never see your lady friend there?
yeah all alone mate....she left me.
Kris Harbour- I have a feeling that you will get plenty of interest by women who have a similar dream, friend. And congrats on your beautiful home-from a long time fan on the Pacific northwest coast of North America.

what camera do you use? is there a cheap camera you'd recommend?
Get a SONY AX53 4K HANDYCAM with an awesome built in stabilizer !
Great stuff. How many acres do you have?
i have 18 acres.
That snow is nothing, here in North Dakota in the United States we often get many times the amount of snow in a storm than that
Hi, I love your channel.I may have missed something but why do you need permission to plant trees on your own property?
you dont need permission if you fund it yourself. but because i a, getting paid to do it by a government insentive to pant trees rthey have a but iof a say what i plant.....the stupid part is, if i i dont plant that area it will just grow over anyway with willow. so i will just fund planting that area myself i think.
Quick top to stop the shaky video. just get a cheap pocket tripod the small ones the size of a small umbrella, thats all you need. attach camera then keep the legs folded and hold on to the legs.
That is what i do at the moment.....i have a small gorilla pod
Just found you! Where is this?
You need a carport to park your car under.
im going to be building on of those 3 bay timber frame garage things at some point.
How much is the camera stabilizer Kris. ?
i think they are about £250 for a decent one. not cheap by any means. but that is exactly the kind of thing the patreon money is good for. so i might invest at some point.
Or charge for visits / help. I would pay for a weekend helping. Think I have bugged you 3 times now lol and not going to stop. I think when the work shop starts you will need a little bit of help, due the the scale of it.
Wow, that's pricey. Maybe put together an Amazon Wish List to add to your description. Though you'd need a PO Box for privacy.
how are you living like this legally in the UK?
Put some trout in that dam.
hi which country are you in?
sarah smith - He resides in Wales, part of Great Britain.
Kris I am curious do you have an address and how ?
Do the steps of the house get slippery when wet?
Opi Waran always a bon Jovi fan lol
no they dont, they are quite rough stone, even with he moss they are not slippery
alright, thanks
not when you're living on a prayer...
instead of buying some steady cam, im sure you could just build one and make video of it. win win win.
Hahah, that's snowed in?! Hahaha! I'm in Manitoba, Canada and when I get snowed in it because our driveway has a fifteen foot long, five foot deep, rock hard snow drift at the end!

Canadians love to talk about their weather because it's all they have going for them.
bob mcboberson haha! We also have mosquitoes the rest of the year!
eldsprutandedrake oh, the Internet. It was a tongue and cheek, fun comment.
He said it will be snowed in, not that he is. This is just the beginning.
Of course, I havent even seen an inch in years, as I live in texas ;p
You have to get a grant to plant trees? That's weird. Do you have to get a grant to plant vegetables?
You don’t have to. You can fund it yourself but wales has a declining forested area so there is a grant where they pay you to plant on your land. So I am talking advantage of that. I get the trees for free. A small payment to manage them each year and future firewood. So it’s a good deal for me.

That's not snow , this is snow! : pulls out giant knife. Oh shoot wrong meme. sorry mate ill see my way out......
Are you the "Duchy of Cornwall"???
