I love the fullness of the Kamaka. It sounds richer. I like the Kiwaya. Very good comparison. But now I want a Kamaka!

Would love to see a comparison between the HF1 and your KTS-7.

Very thorough comparison. I prefer the sound of the Kiwaya. 👍☮

Thank you Lauren 🤗🤗🤗, Kiwaya as I noticed has a richer , warmer sound, and a lot of people like that, even me😉. Right now , as I play each of them , I pick up both of them , & when I play a certain song, that’s the only time that I will decide which ukulele to choose but, still I play them first😊, I just don’t decide without testing them. Again, thank you Lauren!✌🏻&❤️

The review I've been waiting for! This is your best review yet, and one of the best all around uke reviews I've seen, THANK YOU IAM for making it!! I like how you both pick and strum, show the mic, strings, show the front and back of the uke, individually and side by side, prices, ect. Also I dig the Hawaiian/beach/palm tree background too, that was cool! These are the two ukes I've been looking at so it's very helpful. I'm going to Hawaii in June and will buy one of them. The one question I still have is how do the neck's compare? Same width? Same feel? Thanks.!! Future review request- if you ever buy or borrow a mahogany Ohana soprano, it would be good to see a cheaper (but still quality) uke compared to the more expensive Kiwaya. I know you already made a comparison video of the Kiwaya and the Ohana koa soprano, but would also be cool to hear if the difference with mahogany. MAHALO!

First of all, I want to thank you too for being active in the comment section🤙. Yes, I will do an Ohana Mahogany and a Kiwaya mahogany sound comparison, that will be a good future video😉. Okay, nut width, the Kiwaya is 1.3/8”in the nut , that’s what I see on most forums & they even mentioned it’s a hair over 1 3/8”& I also check the Elderly instruments website’s description, of Kamaka HF1 and they also mentioned that nut width is 1 3/8. I haven’t measured them myself yet but, they both feel comfortable to me. In the future I will buy a tool to measure the width like what the guitar tech use to be precise. I like doing videos like this, because this are the type of videos that I also watch in youtube, but I mostly see it in the guitar world and not much in the ukulele world. There might be some videos floating out there but, I want to capture the sound of each uke, without altering the sound and I want to eliminate as much noise that the environment cause. So far , The Ukulele Site is one of the channel that I see, that does an ukulele sound comparison & I’m for sure inspired by them without a doubt & also by my subscribers feedback like what you did😊😊😊.🎙🔈🎶🤙🤙🤙. ✌🏻&❤️

commoncurt thank you! Yup! Sometimes it’s good to compare different brands and different tonewoods. I’m just using my imagination, like “what if” the viewers wants to know the difference / sound difference between this 2 instruments😊😊😊. again thank you!

Very helpful video. Thanks! Both are outstanding. I hear the Kamala as a little more playful and the Kiwaya as a little more serious 😊

This is a great video and the best explanation of why is almost impossible to have the "one" uke. Both are amazing but I think different animals all together. If you are doing more of the old-timey rags/jazz type were you need the punch and jangle, then the KTS-4. Kamaka for your more Hawaiian and strumming kind of stuff. Finger-picked, take your choice. I would be happy with either, but If I had the choice, I'm taking the Kamaka. But there's no wrong choices here. Thanks for sharing! Just subscribed.

Thank you Sir, I like both brand, they are both sweet in their own way. If I was given either, I won't mind either. Although, I much prefer Koa to Koa and hog to hog comparison but that is just okay too. THX again. Oh, you played great, thx.

Great job. In the future, do a blind comparison and at the end, show the viewers each uke while you play it. It'll be interesting if some viewers change their minds which sound they like better when the uke brand is revealed.

Now that I have an S-1 there is a whole new meaning to Solid wood are they one piece solid wood or bookmatched top? I'm amazed at how different mahogany can be. I'm interested in the new $100 Kiwaya. I like both of these Ukes & you play them so beautifully

    • @iamshake7778
      @iamshake7778  6 років тому +1

Jody, thank you for stopping by, the Kamaka HF1 is bookmatched the top, back and sides. The Kiwaya on the other side looks like it has a one piece top and back and 2 piece sides, honestly for me they look like one piece top & back. Yup! Mahogany can be different from each other, and one factor can be the way it’s built and another is the kind of Mahogany. Again, thank you Jody! ✌🏻&❤️

I hear what your saying. To me the kiwaya has a more thin classic jangley Hawaiian tone and the Kamaka has much more mid/low frequencies making it sound more versatile. Martin type small body instruments are fun but I really like the bigger body sound like this Kamaka. Good review bro

    Nice video as usual IAM.
What I got from this video is that I really think Worth Browns don't sound good on these two Ukuleles. Both brands normally sound so precise and clear and to me the Worth Browns give them a rather muddy sound compared to what I have heard before. Your playing was wonderful as usual and I really like the songs you play.
I just now learned I don't really care for Worth Browns

So one year later, how are they comparing? Do you still play both, prefer one over the other? Do they sound different after aging and opening up? Did you keep the Worth Brown's on both or find that you like different strings on them, and which sound best? Thanks again for this awesome review!

Brent E. Hey how are you doing Brent☺️
So far I gave away my Kiwaya Last June of 2019😊
I gave it to a very special person🙂
So far I still have my Kamaka Hf1.

  • @petercane6890

    That was an interesting comparison.
Both sound fantastic and it is subjective as to which one is better.
There is no Better in this case as it comes down to which sound you like.
The Kamaka sounds more mellow and woody and not as loud as the Kiwaya.
The Kiwaya sounds remarkably brighter with crystal clear almost piercing trebles.
I prefer this as old age deafness demands such an instrument.
So for me it's the Kiwaya.
Figured Koa is beautiful but I always go for sound and playability.
You will also find that the Kiwaya is feather light and has the lowest action available with ukes.
Playability is also a deciding factor.

    Hello, thanks for your review.
    Very good sound comparison.
Is there a pickup in the Kamaka and the Kiwaya?
Have you heard of Mahimahi tribute to Martin soprano allready.
    I go for the Kiwaya.

@@iamshake7778 oké, and what brand pickup is that you use.
I owned a Ohana sk38 with the Misi acoustic trio pickup.
But there is not so much pressure on the string because its a soprano, and than it lose some volume.

    • @iamshake7778
      @iamshake7778  5 років тому

Mario Van Der Zijden 😊. My Kiwaya KTS- 4 has a Misi Trio while the Kamaka HF1 has the new Anuenue air air pick up, it’s a blend of under the saddle & microphone for capturing body resonance, you can also choose if you want to use just the microphone or just the under the saddle pick up. There’s 2 knobs inside, for the Volume of the uke and the other one is for blending or choosing which pick up👍🎶🎼🎵😁😁😁🤙🤙🤙 again thank you for your time 👍🤙✌🏻
