  • In this video I give an in-depth look at a Squier Debut Series Stratocaster. I bought this guitar on Amazon for $119 and I’m using it in my luthier workshop in Binghamton, NY. I take a look at the headstock, neck, fretboard, body, and electronics and give my perspective as a guitar tech. I often modify guitars like this by changing the tuners, nut, levelling the frets, replacing the pickups, potentiometers, and the 5 way switch. I may cover this in future videos!
If you’re in Broome County NY and need guitar repairs:

    Thank you!

I don’t happen to own this guitar, but even with your video I more inclined to to buy my first cheap guitar ❤❤❤

Thanks for the deep dive, shows what to look for and how to deal with the issues. Gonna check out your pedals, very curious.

I got the 2 tone sunburst one, I really like it. I've got a nice loaded pickguard and a spare set of cheap locking tuners I'm gonna put on it.

Very cool! How does the sunburst look in person?

@@davidrossmusicalinstruments It looks as good as you'd expect. It's also matte, and will probably look like a relic within a few years lol.

The satin body is very nice
I think the best guitars from squire are the paranormal series.
Contemporary and classic vibe are great too.
I think those are guitars that will grow with you,
But I am still happy that squire offers these more budget instruments even if they are rough around the edges.

I bought this guitar in red for some guy I know. First things I did before handing it over was to change the strings, condition the fretboard, and get new pickups.

No shielding on the cavity. That's a thing I would do. You can get these Squiers play really nice when you do a good setup; I actually started working on my first guitar (Squier) which I've tried and learned so many things on.

That's a good point about the shielding. I find that single coils can benefit from having it specifically.

@@davidrossmusicalinstruments what to use for shielding?

@@Chadleyization I would probably use copper foil tape in this case.

Thats the downside of cheaper guitars, improper setup. I love cheap guitars, but then again, I know how to fix mosy issues

I'd rather save my money and buy a better line of Strat.

Makes sense. Part of the reason I got this was to use in repair videos. Also, because of the matte finish, it gives off less glare when shooting pedal demos. I'll eventually fix all of these issues with it and have a decent shop guitar.
