Great rebuild. You are right about the c transistors. They are temperamental. BUT when you get them right they run really well. I have a 16 pill c box that took 3 months to get right huge learning curve been running for 8 months and knock on wood 2200-2300 watts bird not peak all day long with 220 bird into it. Love it so far. But like I said a huge learning curve. Love your work stay well.
Sounds to me like the guy who owned it abused it.... I have owned two fat cat staged amplifiers for the last four years and have had zero issues. I've also had this gentleman rebuild my mobile amps and they run just great. Each builder has his own personal preference and how he likes to build an amp. Again I have had zero issues with mine and they are both four years old and still run just as if i got them today.
With two relays like that, I imagine you could set up the amp to run the two pill section independently or the 8 pill section independently or both together.
This is why for my taste if you will. When it comes to custom amplifier builders. I only believe in BBi and Carl Built. No guessing. Just quality. That is just me though.
Im confused. Is there some attenuators between the 2 and 8? Cause rhe 2 pill will make almost 400 w and yet you only recommend runing the 4 pill with 150 watts. I have a fatboy 2 pill that i run an 8 pill with and yes i actually run my 2 pill on a different power supply at only 12 volts to get the power down to less than 200 because its diminishing returns. 150 in gets me 1500 out. 200 in gets me 1600 out. 300 gets me 1700 out. 400 gets me 1800 out. Just beating up the 8 pill.
I'm a bit confused. You mentioned that it's a Class C amp which means that only half of the 8 transistors would be conducting at a time. That's 100 Watts, not 200 Watts. In a class C, one transistor handles the positive going part of the sine wave, and the other the negative side? Same with the 2 pill section if that's a Class C configuration as well.. 25 watts, not 50?? Which would mean that even though those are not great quality power supplies, they produce enough for the load.
You missed the part of this video, and others, where he states that those PSUs may produce 30amps or they may produce 5 amps. It varies greatly, making them unreliable. He also discusses the symptoms presented by the customer, which dictate obvious PSU deficiencies.

On the ground I was tuning this thing for 5 hours but up in the air the tune changed & must be retuned this week. Also bought more equipment today + I'm designing custom shelves for all the toys. 3 new HD power lines were also installed in my office to power stuff up. Things are finally comming together hell it's only been 2.5 years of obtaining components & spending tons of money 💰 🤑 💸. More to come. Tzkd care, TMP from N.J.

we've heard this song and dance before so that's why I stay away from certain builders. The megawatts are nice when you have enough of them lol
