I have bought the Sony and in the process of bidding for the tecsun... The sheer simplicity of turning a radio on and tuning your station is a luxury in these overly complicated technology laden times! And I love technology, but I am also a 43 year old man that lived the transition of old technology to what we have nowadays... great channel!
Thank you Paco. I'm right there with you age wise. Was there for when the first personal computers were the rage, now we video chat with our smartphones from anywhere. I remember that being a dream of mine as a kid. Neat how they come true.
I love portable radios, I can't believe a channel like yours exists. Also, I have the Sony radio you started off with and I absolutely love that device.
I GOT THE SONY RADIO 📻 FOR MY BIRTHDAY 🎂 FROM MY MOM I TOLD YOU SAID A GOOD RADIO 📻 THANKS 🙏 FOR THE RECOMMENDATION I LOVE THAT RADIO 📻 AGAIN THANKS 🙏 KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
That Kaito KA321 seems to also support the OIRT Eastern European FM band (65-73 MHz) and the Japanese FM band (75-95 Mhz). That definitely makes it a "World Receiver"!
It seems like the same heavy metal song is playing on fm,on all of your radio reviews. Lol! I'm not sure of my favorite. I mostly listen to am talk radio. Tough to choose.
If the V115 used AA batteries, it would probably be the best FM radio for emergencies. Digital tuning and all the other features are great, but using BL-5 batteries is a no-go. Needs to be something easily acquired and not need a special charger.
Hey Mr. Todderbert, you missed out on the RETEKESS TR605. The sound quality of this particular unit is just awesome. Just realized you have reviewed it separately in October 2019 and without a doubt the RETEKESS TR605 blows all these units you have reviewed in this video out of the water in sound quality.
It will be perfect. If your running FM or MP3s you can hook it up to USB power and remove the battery. I run one of my V115s like this on FM. It is great.
I had a Sony, but after a while the tuner started to drift, causing me to spend a lot of time tuning, & the earbud jack is on the side. It also ate earbuds,
Such an amazing selection of little gems. At one point I thought I caught a glimpse of Ironman sitting on the sidelines awaiting your call into action. Thanks for sharing these with us!
The Tecsun PL-360 is in a different catagory than these radios. You will have tons of enjoyment with the 360. It is a favorite of mine, though you may want to use an external speaker or headphones with it. The on board speaker is rather tinny. Also if you need single side band reception you may want to look at spending a few extra bucks and get the PL-365/CountyComm GP5 > ua-cam.com/video/GXWoCcxdkrw/v-deo.html
wow great video. I like to get these price range radios. I just ordered the supersonic. I love that versatility of the battery. I have 5 of those rechargeable ones already but I also like the AA feature. I like the little beefier size to it also. Thanks for this great info
Out of all of them I believe that the KAITO is the best. I have one it is in my go bag has a short wave radio. It is very good audio on a.m. and FM. However I find the tuning a little bit touchy. I’ve owned probably most of the other ones in my lifetime. Thanks for the video.
Nice round up on the top 10 radios. I think it would be hard to pick one but I think I would agree with you. Now if I can just get that song out of my head. 😜
I guess Sony changed the AM dial on its P26 model: the product on Amazon stops at 16 (x1000 mhz), whereas the product in your reviews goes to 17. I hope Sony didn't cut back the range of its AM band.
I think they had a photo mix up. I checked the link and it is indeed the one I used to obtain this radio and a recent one I purchased for a Patreon member.
I only have one of these, but it's your #1 recommendation. I guess I'm not doing too bad. The shortwave on the v115 is terrible in my area, but I have those powerful AM stations (Zoomer, etc.) clustered around me.
The V115 has basic SW, and MW does bleed through. Solid FM and good AM on locals. I just love being able to record from the Line In jack... and the MP3 player is decent. Not needing to buy batteries is also a bonus.
I would go with the 218, I like they use higher capacity AAs vs the PR15's AAAs. If he needs the weather band then get the PR15. Also a note the Tecsun R-233 is one to consider as well. Performs like the Sony P26 ;)
Got to love them radios 😉👍 The Retekess/Tivdio V115 is my personal top from this group when it comes to price/feature/performance. Great review Mr Todderbert 👍
Nice review im also a radio collector to my ears the supersonic sounded the best better top notes but they all done a good job its all down to personal preference....
Hi. Can you please help me which one should i buy? I want to gift it to my dad on his 62nd birthday. My requirements are pocket sizeable and good reception. My budget is below 40$. Please reply. Thank you 🙂
depends on which radio. The radios that run on rechargeable BL-5Cs come with them. The ones that run on AAs or AAA batteries are not included. As far as a USB power block, that is not included. Most people own them so they usually just give you the cable. USB ports on any PC will also recharge the radios with this capability.
todderbert thank you very much for your expedited response and thank you very much for your great review, I just placed an offer on a V115 after seeing this video. I was wondering about the power packs because I have never seen them offered the radios that I have are 1990’s and the plug for the power is there but I don’t know where to buy and most of all do all small radios work on the same polarity?. Thank you once again and have a great week.

Your welcome MrSparks, you will find the FM to be the best. AM is ok to good and the SW is fairly basic with some MW bleed through. I noticed this more with a wire attached.
I wasn't sure if I would like the V115 but after playing with it for a day I am surprised how loud it is and AM/SW performance is ok. I have it on the end table searching for SW stations. I'll DX MW tonight.
I really like the Daogoly for AM. It's cheap, but works well. It is a DSP and is a little harder to tune, but rewarding. with that said a strong runner up should be the Sony P26.

Cool. Would it possible to get a video on which radios to stay away from?
