Seeing that Ron Spencer art of Merfolk Looter took me back. It was his very 90's-Marvel-comics style that really caught my eye as a kid and got me into Magic
Survival of the Fittest is the best card in the set, but, because it is ultra banned everywhere, its points do not reflect that, despite still managimg fourth place.
Oath is better, it's just a 1 card house. Survival is usually a graveyard deck with a bunch of 2-card combos so it's much easier to stop. Survival kills way faster though.
@@Bulhakas No. Is it noticeably better than Oath there? I guess my view is skewed toward the last 10 years of Magic, where creatures have massive ETBs and super ridiculous keywords, which premodern might not have.
@@conman-sr5md I would say Survival is a lot more busted in Premodern, yes,to the point that almost any old green deck with creatures is often better off running that enchantment than not doing so. That format has many Oath variants, but they are still Oath vriants and other decks can sometimes play around Oath somewhat. Survival is just way too good and easy to use not to slap on almost any deck that can cast it. It's good in its own dedicated toolbox archetypes, but also in madness, ordinary GR aggro and others because why not? There are no creatures like Archon of Cruelty, Niv-Mizzet, Griselbrand, Emrakul, Atraxa etc either, of course, this being a closed format that ends with Scourge, so a resolved Oath trigger is far from a certain game over for the opponent, and swords to plowshares is extremely ubiquitous.
@@Bulhakas Yes, all of the most broken Oath targets were printed long after Scourge. I suppose Oath is so absolutely busted these days because Wizards decided to power up creatures so much over the last 15 years, and Survival is good without needing broken creatures. What do you oath into in Premodern? Verdant Force? Morphling?
In expansions top 10 (and other "very niche" ones), it would be cool to have a honorable mention about the banned/powerfull/famous cards that not made the top 10. In exodus, we had Recurring Nightmare for example.
This is fun both for the nostalgia factor and for helping me decide which of my boxes of old card sets in the basement might have anything valuable in them 😅
Now *this* is a list with some cards with high points. I don't know if I'd say Oath of Druids or Sphere of Resistance would make it onto "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)", but I sure hope they would!
Oh, I do love your set top 10s, Nizzahon! The next set after Exodus, is my favorite set of all time, Urza’s Saga (if you keep going in order)! I have so much love and nostalgia for Urza’s Saga, and the whole Saga block! That was when I first started playing competitively, and, god there were some good and fun decks from that unfairly maligned “Combo Winter!” I am very much looking forward to that video if it is forthcoming! Back in the good ol’ days of Magic!
9:54 when I saw Sphere at number 2, I was, like, “Huh, I guess City of Traitors didn’t make the cut…” I didn’t think City could have amassed more points than Sphere.
Honestly, to me Sphere was a surprise. OK, it's strong. But to my knowledge it's only played in heavy Stax. I've thought Trini, Chalice and even Thorn were played a lot more.
@@crawdaddy1234 I know. Just saying it's supposed to be the fourth choice in a relatively narrow archetype (at least to my knowledge). Personally, I've had expected it to be behind Oath and Survival, even taking into account the ban.
Love me a Price of Progress. However with regards to Delver, that's almost always a sideboard card for decks like Lands along with Uro Piles. You don't really want PoP in the main of your Wasteland deck
I was bummed there were no new Slivers. Clearly the people of Dominaria have gotten the Sliver threat under control since Time Spiral block, but there should still be some around.
I didnt think you could use recurring nightmare to return spirit of the night due to its protection from black so i never tried. Same with dance of the dead or animate dead. If thats true, then I completely missed the boat a long time ago.
Oh I don’t think it would be easy- perhaps one of the toughest ones to pull off, but I think it would be very interesting and worth the effort. I believe in you!!

While not mentioned in this video, nightmare gets a nod in a recent short nizzahon just released.
@@richardkipphorn3309 At least he mentioned nightmare in this video when he talked about survival.
I wonder how many points Hatred and Mind Over Matter have
It’s really cool to see a list that highlights the eternal formats.
I remember when I felt like I was making out like a bandit years ago when I sold off my set of City of Traitors for $75 each.
I've always liked City of Traitors, maybe due to the artwork for some reason.

I think the original Oath of Druids text is clearer than the reprint! It's bizarre that it makes you target an opponent now.

Tempest block on there way to make another two mana green enchantment that gets banned in legacy.
Love the top 10s on older sets, you just know some powergen cards are gonna show
Love the Top 10 (Best/Worst/Revisit) Set vids.😂😅😎😉
Shattering pulse used to show up every once and a while in pauper
Recurring Nightmare doesn't have more than 16 points ? I'm really surprised.
I can believe it was hyper banned
Weaver top placements were mostly in Oath decks not creature decks at all.
Cataclysm is possibly my favorite MTG card of all time.
I wish you had two channels. One for limited preview (i want notifications) and one for those top 10 lists (which i am not interested)
Well, you could have notifications turned off for most of the year, and then turn them on during set review season.

You say price of progress deals 2 damage to each player equal to twice the number of non basics. Saying two and twice indicates 4 damage per land.
I would include mind over matter. That card is totally broken

Such a bad set. I don’t know why this isn’t lumped in with Fallen Empires and Homelands when people dunk on bad sets.
Because it isn't anywhere near as bad. Or...bad at all. Go watch those Top 10s and you'll see that.
