    This is my BIR Mix Curry Powder Recipe that I learned and have been using since the late 90's. There are many version of mix curry powder and each chef tries to make it their own, some will add more coriander as an example while others may use more or less Cumin powder.
    Personally feel that Mix Curry powder is unique just like ones taste, best way to learn is to play around with the spices. I have also seen some BIR MIX Curry Powder where they use shop bought mix curry powder - I mean you just made a MIX curry powder using all these different spices right....so why add shop bought mix curry powder into it....??

    Here is my BIR MIX Curry Powder Recipe
    2 tbsp Turmeric Powder
    1.5 tbsp Coriander Powder
    1 Tbsp Cumin Powder
    ¼ tbsp Paprika Powder
    ¼ tbsp Kashmiri Red chilli Powder
    ¼ tbsp Garam Masala
    Mix all together and your BIR Mix Curry Powder is ready to use straight away, keep in an air tight jar/container.

    You know I was sceptical at first because I've always added curry powder to any mix but reading your description makes absolute sense, why add curry powder? After all you're already making it..! So I tried this today because I'm waiting for football to start and I was bored, well like I said I was skeptical, but I needn't have been, it tasted bloody good (I made a keema curry) I can honestly say I won't use curry powder again I'll use this mix the only thing I added was a tiny bit more garam masala during cooking near the end not in the mix itself, that didn't need anything..... Thanks for this one it's a keeper👍

      BRI - Bristol Royal Infirmary (there’s was time I was making many trips there so BRI rolled off the tongue, as the video shows it still does lol) and then we have BIR - British Indian Restaurant 🤣🤣🤣

    I have seen other people roast the powdered spices on a low flame in a dry pan before storing, is it better to roast first or does it not matter when storing? Love your channel and please keep them coming.

    • @TheBengaliCook
      @TheBengaliCook  3 роки тому +2

      Hey thanks so much, personally haven’t noticed much/any difference when storing them so I mainly store them without roasting. However would suggest to try both yourself and see which you prefer best, cooking is so unique and once you have/understand the basic principle of spices/combinations etc your on to a winner. Many thanks and yes definitely will continue to upload more recipe soon 😀😀

      Thank you so much. I would generally use 1tsp for a standard BIR portion, on my other video’s I have got step by step guide combining all the different elements of BIR to make curries. On the description box you will also find additional information such as ingredients and measurements required etc hope this helps and really appreciate you ⭐️🙌

    Been loving your videos. I'm curious, am I safe using supermarket versions of these spices in my mix (E.g. Schwartz) or is there higher quality versions out there? If so, what would you recommend?

      That’s amazing to hear Ricky and thank you so much. I’ve always used Eastend and Rajah brands for my spices, I prefer Eastend brand so I would recommend them and these brands are mainly used in BIR, Hope this helps and thanks again 🙌

    This may seem like a silly question but how do you use the powder mix to make a basic curry ? Do you still need to use other things such as onion and garlic etc before adding the powder ? . Sorry but I'm new to this type of cooking but interested to learn .

    • @TheBengaliCook
      @TheBengaliCook  Рік тому +1

      Hi great question and welcome to cooking BIR. You may have seen already in my step by step videos guide by now how it’s used, you just add required amount after the onions have caramelised, please watch video steps to see how it’s used. Any on my BIR videos thanks again and enjoy 🙌

    • @TheBengaliCook
      @TheBengaliCook  2 роки тому +1

      Hey thanks for asking, it’s does help with some flavour, however in my opinion, it’s mainly used to enhance the colour of the curries and also it’s claimed to have many health benefits. Hope this helps 😀

    Hi Babul, some chefs argue that turmeric is quite bitter and so shouldn't be the highest measure in the mix powder. What do you say to that?

    • @TheBengaliCook
      @TheBengaliCook  9 місяців тому

      Hi, yes it can become bitter if to much turmeric powder is used, even when making a curry from scratch, too much turmeric can ruin it. The quantity I’ve used on this recipe works well and it’s not bitter at all. Hope this helps bud 🙌

    if you were making it into an instant if you like curry powder how much salt would you add?

    • @TheBengaliCook
      @TheBengaliCook  3 роки тому

      great question, thanks for asking. Its difficult to say as for example red meat will need more salt than chicken, also depends on the qauntitly your cooking. etc personally would recommend just to add salt separately. thanks again and stay safe.
