If the top tape isn't connected to the bottom and there isn't a second piece forming a "T" on the top, you can just press in the side of the box where the little flaps are and pull the tape off this way. That's how I opened packages when I worked in domestics and curtains. It's fast and easy and prevents you cutting into a package and ruining the product. Another way if you do have a box cutter or scissors (box cutters actually have a tool for tape cutting that's supposed to be used and not the blade), you cut the side as Carter did in this video, then you lift it up and cut down the middle if you aren't able to just tear it from there. This also helps to prevent you from accidentally cutting into the product and ruining it.
