A lot of people have trouble accepting that Kuina's death was just an accident.
That's the point, someone so agile and adept can still be brought down by something as innocuous as a steep flight of stairs.
So true!
I'm mainly a manga reader but I can understand why there are people who prefer the anime version. Hearing their voice feels different during sad moments. 😢
you should read the manga and watch the Anime ^^, you won't believe how much more the anime is hurting 😢, and that simply can't happen if you just read it :)
you should watch the anime too, its a real fan would do...😁 you can understand the show tone more deeper....
I definitely felt Zoro’s backstory more with the anime than the manga! But yeah, each medium has its merits
Lately I watched the anime by watching it along with some reactioners. 😸
Pre-time skip (Anime), Post-time skip (Manga)
Zoro’s backstory is under appreciated in this fandom because how good the other backstories are in One Piece 🔥
I agree with it shows the fragility of life, but it also makes it to where Zoro can't just get revenge on somebody. He has to contend with death itself
He grew up real quick and I love how he turned out
fun fact: in a japanese school book, there is the exact same picture of yosaku eating the limes, just to explain scurvy ^^
And i'm so glad to hear that you are into it already, but since this is just east blue, wait for later ones ;) and the small amount tears you lost there, will get heavier and heavier from arc to arc, trust me ^^
Lmao that’s hilarious and so cool! We’re so excited to keep going ❤️❤️
About Kuina's death, there's a fun theory about it (again, not confirmed in any way):
She was practicing with her sword (real ones are heavier than the bamboo ones they normally use for practice) and thinking about her fight with Zoro, she thought to sharpen it. So she went down to the storehouse to get the whetstone. She slipped but because she was holding her sword she couldn't react fast enough stabbing herself by accident in the process.
There are also other theories like she killed herself or that her father killed her. But imo, they are completely baseless and even contradict what the series itself has shown us. It's obvious that Koshiro loved his daughter and that Kuina had kind of overcome her shock after her duel and talk with Zoro.
If that first theory is true, it would be the saddest thing in the world 😭
You can think of One Piece as an intertwining of multiple stories that connect in a singular path towards the final treasure. This meaning that you can associate each character with individual themes. Zoro's themes involve death, perseverance and luck; the idea that you can die at any given moment, and this has its roots in Kuina's tragedy: she literally died by accident, and that got engraved in Zoro's character, because he had to face the fragility of life at a very young age. You will see how this made Zoro have a mentality of "pushing against your odds", and even at the face of death, never surrender. His first reply when meeting Luffy was "I am different than you. I will prove that I can survive. I am not dying here".
Beautifully said 👌
I understand whenever I feel the waterworks start coming I try to laugh to stop myself… 9 times out of 10 it never works😂
LMAO it truly does NOT work! 😂. I already know I have alot more tears to go with this show 😂😂
I can understand thinking that something else happened to Kuina but I really love Kuina’s death being so simple.
Accidents happen. You could be the world’s strongest man but one bad fall can end your life.
In a really unfortunate way, Zoro inadvertently caused her death because she wouldn’t have rushed to get a whetstone if he hadn’t motivated her.
Yeah that’s a great perspective on Kuina’s death and the impact it had on Zoro! Thanks for sharing ❤️
same point in the manga,
to be fair to the father, that line was anime only he did not say that in the manga
to be fair to Zoro, he was not just a random kid he is her relative
also, the body was shown clearly in the manga with her face covered with a cloth
as for dying like this, in my opinion, is more to show how fragile life can be, you can be careful about everything or very talented with a good head on your shoulders and your last words can still be "Woops, AAAA", so you should be able to take a bit of risk either way
That’s a fair point about the fragileness of life!
Fun fact: Zoro's backstory in the manga was much earlier, just before Luffy jumped in to save him from the Marines' bullets in ShellsTown when he was held captive.
This is the second time the anime changed the order, the first one being Luffy's backstory (we got it in episode 4 but it was actually chapter 1 in the manga)
05:00 About the real swords Zoro and Kuina are using:
Zoro's were given to him by an old blacksmith in their village who recognised Zoro's potential and hard work (we get more about this in a much much much much later arc). They are the two swords he is still using now together with Kuina's.
Kuina's is a family heirloom. A famous sword by the name of Wado Ichimonji (we'll learn about it 2 arcs from now).
What I love about it is that to Zoro Wado is just Kuina's sword. He doesn't even know it's name, nor that it's a Meito. To him it's his best friend's sword, the one with which he will accomplish their dream.
05:35 Because of Kuina's situation, Zoro's view of women is a bit complicated. He doesn't underestimate them because he understands that they can be strong, but he doesn't treat them the same way as he does men either. Like, he will fight them but he'll be more courteous to them, little things like that. But he *will* fight them and treat them harshly if they are in the wrong.
11:50 Yeah, it took way too many years for us to find out why Luffy wanted a musician so badly
GOATED as always Evelyn!! Thanks for all the tidbits!! ❤️
life is unfair, sometimes you just slip and fall.
After 500 doctor checks you are 102% healthy, yet next day a brain aneurism or heart palpitation and you are a goner. Even just going outside, lightning hits you, drunk driver or a meteor pebble just had to fall through your eye into your brain. Sometimes you just eat alone and start choking and nobody to help you.
Life is fragile and can end at any moment. Sure you wish to go out in a blaze of glory or of old age. Especially in a world like One Piece, Kuina's death is unique. It grounds and humbles.
Makes it feel even more tragic 😢
Zoros greatest rival.
Down D. Stairs
LMAOOOOO that was a good one 😂
Nah, moment when you decide watch One piece or not is in episodes 30-37. That's first little demonstration of Oda's writing. And it will get only better as the show continues
👀
it just gets better XD
Damn....Ashley is the one piece
Kuina is confirmed dead, the fans are split into 2 conclusions, the show of how fragile life can be regardless of how strong you are, death can be sudden or suicide.
She just actually slipped. Oda confirmed she is actually dead. It was to show how fragile life is and to become the backbone of Zoros resolve.
Her father (once you learn his last name) knows how dangerous her ambition was because of whats out there in the world. He didn’t want her to get hurt. Hence the irony of her tragedy.
💯💯
your going to see what happened to Kuina, later. They show it with another character. Pay attention, Oda puts this in and most people don’t even put it together. 😂 They just laugh at this clumsy person (they survived)and don’t even connect the dots.
new subscriber here !!!☺☺
Hi!!! 😊❤️
indeed
How does someone like her with her abilties just slip down the steps? She's still just a child despite her abilities and accidents are the number 1 killer of children. They legit don't know no better, and dont think with the precautions we do. I mean look how they dueled with real swords. That was incredibly dangerous in of itself
True!
THE CRYING HAS ONLY BEGUN!!
Time to bulk order waterproof mascara 😂
i also agree that kuina's death was at the hands of someone. the way oda shows how adults on the dojo didnt want kuina to run the place and then her "accidently" passing away is too convenient for those adults. we need a true crime podcast on this case asap
Haha honestly Oda can be so unpredictable who knows what he may reveal in the future 👀
The moment she discovers that zoro's backstory is the weakest of them all... 😂
HAHA great, more waterworks to come 😂
Balls😔
😂
Mg brother Zoro was ass 😭😭2001 loses!??😭😭
All those losses…to build his character 😂
I’ve always read it as Kuinas wins over anyone 🤔
Imma simple guy. If they like/enjoying one piece imma subscribe. Count me in too on the journey
