    Good tutorial, though! And a moving, spiky hazard like that _is_ pretty novel for Doom maps, so it would be cool to see more things like those.

    I tried to get something like this working about a year ago and never figured it out - seems I figured out the interpolation points but not the Actor Mover object! Thanks for another wonderful guide.

    I've been following your scripting series, i have my wad file which is a small map full of the exercises you show. These are great tutorials. Looking forward to exploring the usage of 3d (quake format) models inside GZDoom in the future.

    THANK GOD for this tutorial chubz! i was literally thinking on how to do actual cutscenes that involves more than just panning the camera or something like that, and this will come in handy for some ideas about cutscenes that i had in mind.

      A Patrol Point would be a whole lot better for patrolling monsters. If you move a monster using this method, it won't be able to break away from the path and attack once it sees you. This is more for locking something onto a path the entire time.

    Off topic but I used to make levels with the level editor for TimeSplitters 2. Using that definitely helped me understand Doom Builder a lot better.

    I remember trying to use actor movers for certain sequences in Brutal Wolfenstein but ended up just relying on doing something on decorate to get the same effect as i couldn't for the life of me understand how to properly set them up.

      Yeah, they aren't very well documented IMO. It doesn't help that almost no one ever seems to use them!

      @@Chubzdoomer Also i didn't even know you could set up looped patrols with this. I used the "Patrol Point" function for the titlemap of BW but they are super janky as the actors tend to not properly follow it,so i had to rely in putting some blocking linedefs around the intended path. Which led me to not use 'em at all in playable levels.

    Thanks for the video! Like you've said in another comment, not a very well documented feature.
    Could you do a video on how to make things like that spike trap? Seems like a really unique mechanic to Doom.

      The Spike Trap itself could probably be done a whole lot better. I'm not great at making custom actors so I just fudged it. All it really is is an immobile prop that just so happens to be calling A_Explode every few frames of its animation. I made the explosion radius teeny-tiny so that it only affects other actors that are more or less right up against it.

      I don't know much about custom weapons myself, so I'll have to try and learn more about the process one of these days. Most of what I do tends to revolve around mapping/scripting.

      The bad news? Well, I tried it... but sadly the Spike Trap didn't appear like it was supposed to. =(

    hey chubz, you know how to make it so the actor plays its walking animation while it's moving?

      I'm sure there's a workaround for it, but it wouldn't be easy since when an actor is moved via an Actor Mover, it automatically becomes dormant. You could always just use Patrol Points and have a monster travel via those, although those are less reliable than an Actor Mover when it comes to the path taken (monsters don't always walk a perfect line from point to point, and can deviate in strange ways).

    Can I set up an actor mover to move an interpolation point, and so change the path in real time? I can imagine this being an interesting way of creating more complex movement.

      @@Chubzdoomer By the time you read this you may have tested it yourself, but I set up a quick test and it does work.
      SLADE wasn't showing me the connection between the second actor mover and the first interpolation point of the second path in the editor for some reason, but when I ran the map it worked as expected.

      For sound effects I mostly use ZapSplat and FreeSound. When it comes to music... no idea, really. I don't mess around with music much.
      As far as audio in Slade, it really just depends on what you're doing. If you're adding a song for a level, you just throw the MP3 inside your WAD and that's all. For sound effects, you'll often need to include their definitions inside a SNDINFO lump. Here's more info on the Wiki:

      I don't use Slade much myself, outside of very basic things (like throwing in a MAPINFO lump and editing it, or even SNDINFO if I'm using a custom sound). I don't even know anything about its built-in map editor, but I've heard some people like to use it.

      Well I don't think I will be using it much. Just tried to install on Mac and Windows 10. Crashed on Mac didn't even start up and had a very buggy display problem on Windows. I will stick with Ultimate Doom Builder.

      Sounds like you made a typo! Make sure you type everything exactly as shown. Pay close attention to characters like semicolons (you can't afford to miss so much as one), and upper-vs-lowercase letters.
