Considering it takes a good while to actually develop playable graphics after pre-planning usually begins for a mainline Pokémon game, that means that ScVl likely entered the pre-development phases in mid-2018, around which Shigeru Ōmori and his team was also working on Sword and Shield. This game has gotten plenty of time in the oven (4 years, as a matter of fact), and it makes me wonder if lack of time is even a factor in the quality of Pokémon games at this point, because it's more likely technical incompetence and poor planning from within the studio that causes a half-baked product coming out overly burnt and stale.
That beta menu looked really cool and fresh. I wondered why the Scarlet/Violet layout was so basic. They must've changed it because it made the game lag even more. Switch didn't do good to pokemon.
i wish people would stop blaming the switch for Pokemon's failures. botw/totk are running on the same hardware, remember? Pokemon has run just fine on plenty of less powerful consoles in the past.

Yeah the Teraleak has revealed a bunch of stuff about release dates and it seems likely that they develop their games wayyyyy in advance. IIRC a good portion of Pokemon X was done before BW2 had released. Weird to think that gen 10 probably has a playable demo rn
As terrible as these games perform it'd be almost impossible to get them to the playable state they're at in just 3 years, makes perfect sense that they're overlapping dev cycles to get as much time as possible

every switch game beta has had pokemon that wasn't in the final game. mega lucario was in the PLA beta, greninja was in SWSH beta, now nidoqueen in SV beta. it's just for testing and tragically not any indication for the final roster. that does mean that theres not much of a good reason not to include them, aside for making the game easier to balance, but even then there really is no excuse not to include them in like, DLC or updates or something. just have the limited roster in the initial release and then make all the rest of the pokemon come in the DLC. and if they're worried about competitive, just have the rules limit the roster.
@PatManDX tournaments with limited rosters would be perfectly ideal. Hell vgc always did them with regional pokedex limitations. There just isn't an excuse
They usually just put random Pokemon in for testing purposes, they probably weren't even functional or close to complete. In the XY beta's Pokemon were just 2D cutouts. In the SwSh beta Greninja was super bugged and still used the old textures and lightmaps from Sun and Moon. With every engine update they need to update quite a few other aspects before the Pokemon themselves actually function properly.
13:10 is very interesting, seems they initially planned for trainers to still be able to initiate a battle automatically, although with a timer similar to legends arceus' pokemon
It seems more that there was a kind if signal to see other trainers that want to battle. Better than the final version, because you don't have any sound or signal to see them if you are running fast xd

Guys this is running in an emulator. Without a direct comparison of SV on this guys machine, theres no point commenting on its performance. Even the most optimised games will run poorly on a low end device.
lowkey the overworld looks much better than the final game, you can see that they can make a game that looks good but the hard part is optimizing it so it can run on the switch with solid fps
