The only thing lacking here is a random NPC appearing outta nowhere, locking eyes with you and says. "Your coin or your life." And then bumps into your mule, walking forward but moving sideways at the same time, keeping eye contact with you all the while, his head spinning as he walks. Then falls over a rock and dies, and somehow an Imperial guard appears to declare that you've violated the law and must pay in blood.
This comment right here
Thered no point in running from the guard either. he will follow you to the end of the earth and back so you cant sleep
Or, perhaps, a strange young man runs out of the woods, uttering those cursed words:
"I'vE bEeN lOoKiNg FoR yOu. GoT sOmEtHiNg To DeLiVeR. yOuR hAnDs oNlY."
"That's a nice head you have on your shoulders!"
@Gi Gi nah it's clear that it's the predator theory they're much to stocky to be mules, so the horses of skyrim, a intriguing mystery
"I don't think you understand. That is a LOG, sir." - Mule, probably
Totally!!!❤🤣🤣
Logs fall and roll. Made sense to me.
I loved the part where the mule was like "ok, maybe the log is fine" and then looked the other way and saw the second one. "Oh no, they got me surrounded"
Give that mule a name, he is a good boy.
I'm thinking Pierre.
@@demonduck132 nice and dignified. I like it
I thought he decided that "No Name" was his name lol.
@@mypony891 To be honest, "The mule with no name" would be a wonderful name. It references "The man with no name", which is the character Clint Eastwood played in the Dollar Trilogy movies. They were filmed in Spain, and the mule's from there. The character is always a mestizo and shows no interest in romance and, guess what, mules are a mixed animal incapable of reproduction!
Edit: Oh, and Clint's character had a mule, a mule that didn't like people laughing...
@@GerackSerack I was assuming that it was referring to the Horse with No Name song.
Brought back memories. I had a retired plantation draft mule growing up in Hawaii. She was about 18 when we found her abandoned. Her ears were tremendously long and her hooves like dinner plates. A neighbor named her Tomato. Great animal for kids. My dad felt we were safe with her in the fields and never get lost. She only allowed us an hour ride. She would turn around and take us back to the house, get her tack removed, and I would walk her back to the pasture a mile away. Occasionally she would be taken to work with the rest of the plantation mules (normal size) and after an hour she would take off back to the pasture dragging her handlers and still wearing her pack of seed cane. When a dam broke and flooded the pasture, she pulled the wire fence down and saved all the mules. Came up to the house to let us know she had no place to go. It was a great experience.
I bet it felt good to be out of the rain.
The rain is pretty inescapable in England, perhaps a pun regarding his mane or some other corruption would be more fitting
Harleymuun I would say being under the trees is still ‘out of the rain’ compared to an open expanse, but don’t mind me, carry on being a pedant. Also, it’s a reference to the song that is somewhat hinted at in the title of this video. Again, don’t mind me though, knowing stuff.
Ya but it's a mule so maybe they want the rain different song and all
Tony I bet you’re brilliant at parties.
La la laaa laaaa la la la la la la la la la
I love the way your calmness reassured him when he was shying, you gave him time to realize that the scary things weren’t going to eat him.
riders together xx
That moment demonstrates the difference between a horse and a mule. A horse would look to his rider for reassurance and guidance. A mule says, "Gimme a minute to figure this out on my own."
Mules are thinkers.
This is so true. Patience is really the most important thing when dealing with any animal.
@@angelinabrown2931 Mules rock!!!
I love how when he is relaxed is ears just go *flop*
on a side note, it was so cool to see him working through the problem at the downed tree. It was like you could see the numbers flying before his eyes. He is such a good boy. Give this one lots of love.
Your mule is such a good gentleman. He behaved so well on the trail for you. Mules are just amazing! I am sure he will tell you his name when it's the right time. I hope we see more of him soon.
I've no idea why I'm here but that's 7mins of bliss
This channel is kind of like that; you may come here for the knight content, and next thing you know you're entranced with a video about medieval 'saran wrap' or about sticks or a mule ride.
sniff rat this is one of the best channels on UA-cam. That’s why you were here.
His ears were like a pair of antennas that couldn't *quite* find the right station. Thank you for providing this content, It's great to see that you're both out and about
nope just the mules way of paying attention to his suroundings and the guy on his back :)
Maybe Antennas should be his name.
@@aliciavelice3806 It was just a joke lol
That's a perfect description. I call my mare's ears the "Very Big Array!" 📡📡📡📡🤣
Radar.
Never thought about how riding an animal is a continuous negotiation.
It is. But i don't know if the animals do negociate or it's only in our heads. Because we do that in other instances too, like driving machines too. You know, when your car doesn't start and you talk to it and try again pleading with it to start?
Somnorila they certainly do haha, but it also depends on the personality of the animal. I worked in the mountains for a few summers, handling and riding horses getting them ready for use by the BSA. We had one chap named Joker, he was an EXTREMELY opinionated horse. He would often go wherever he pleased and would give me the “fuck off mate” signals when me or anyone attempted to mount him.(tail sway, ears cocked stomping etc.) eventually he mellowed but F me it was a daunting task.
It depends on the horse/mule/donkey. Some are great and work with you, others (A Welsh Section C/Shetland Cross I used to ride) are complete bastards. Riding Daisy, the Shetland cross, was more like being taken hostage and pleading to spare your life if she agrees to take your leg. Jake, my one true love, was a Shire/Irish Cob cross. Riding him was almost dangerous in it's pleasure, one could easily forget one was riding. Sadly he's no longer with us but I'll always remember our hacks together with my mother riding Shannon, an Irish Cob, had to be done as those boys were inseparable.
@@somnorila9913 Horses, Mules, and other animals it's definitely a negotiation. When wandering around, if they don't want to go somewhere, they absolutely won't. However, that's why as a rider/trainer/companion, you have to gain their trust and likewise they have to gain yours. They learn to understand that you won't lead them into danger or that if you do that you'll protect them, and likewise you learn to trust their instincts when they tell you "no, I won't go there". Unlike a car or other motorized vehicle, they can build a level of trust that goes both ways, as opposed to a single-direction, and you can learn to read their expressions.
3:00, Go mule go! When I says go, ........Whoa mule whoa.
But master, there must be dragons in these woods! He is indeed a very good boy, very reactive, and you did a wonderful job encouraging him through it all. Very much appreciate these rides! Thank you indeed.
our pleasure, glad you enjoyed it.
I see you found the right bit and bridle. He looks much happier. Love the perspective through mule ears.
So, you might view this video as low-effort content, but my God do I appreciated this sort of video under our current circumstance! I very much miss the outdoors right now and would genuinely love more of these sorts of videos
we thought it would be nice for some people to get out a little with us
@@ModernKnight It really is, thank you
@@ModernKnight Yes it is. Thank you!
Yes, thank you! You have beautiful woods, and I often imagine that Frodo and Sam travelled through there on the way to "The Prancing Pony"!😉🥰
@@ModernKnight Truly felt I was there. It's quite amazing the moss that grows up all of your trees in the UK. We don't have much of that in northeastern US. Felt like I was walking through the woods, checking out the growth from spring and all the different tree species. I see your mule likes his new bit, too. Cool!
Love watching the ears react! They are like a separate entity. Lol
Though they were oddly steady to the front. I've never seen a horse do that. Sometimes even when he got a "good boy". But those big ears are also oddly hypnotic, I was always looking at them and not the path. Something you shouldn't be doing while riding.
I do NEED more videos with this gorgeous mule in my life. He is such a joy.
Nobody:
UA-cam: Do you want to ride on the back of a mule this afternoon?
Me: I suppose I do.
he was so confident when he made it past that "evil branch" xxxx
I thought the mule shied because of the pile of leaves and branches that he had to approach due to the branch fallen across the path. Maybe he expected an ambush by a predator? Anyway, he's a good boy.🐴
@@rebeccaconklin1679 Yes, it as the pile of deadwood and braches. I would have taken him closer, but it's easy to say when you are not in the saddle. And I haven't ridden a mule yet, so might be quite different from a young horse.
Who knew this man was the CEO of multi million pound games company that made sniper elite and other games- what a humble man - takes me two years of watching his videos and I see the OBE, Google him and find out all of this - if I was him I would be flexing all over my channel
Edit: there is one video where he talks about video games
Yo sniper elite my favorite game, it’s absolutely hilarious that this is one of my favorite channels
Always wondered how he afforded that setup and all his animals. A part of me just assumed he worked with or for someone that was funding everything.
I have the entire Sniper Elite series, I am glad to see where my money is going.
What ?!??? Jason is that dude ?
that just made me have even more respect for him now :D
I remember the earlier videos mentioning how much you see the ears - it's fun to see from this POV!
I just love how gentle you are with this mule. He really is in a good home now, and I'm sure a fitting name will come soon enough.
Yay! I was worried you were sending him to a new home! He’s paying attention to everything!
oh no, he has a home here for life if he wants it!
@@ModernKnight I am so glad. You can do everything with him....
@@napinthesun Oh, Mars is a great name!
@@randomvielleuse527 Mars is a perfect name ! what an amazing brave boy. he calculates xx
@@napinthesun or his ears!!
guys, his name is literally just "Good boy,"
I'm sure he thinks: What are you talking about? I have a name. I am "Good Boy".
@@mareikelohbrandt4990 He's had him for 6 months and still didn't name him?
i bet in official documents his name is written something like Goodeboye
Name him Strop!
Exactly, its ridiculously obvious.
Wow That saddle noise while riding brings back some fun memories for me from when I worked at a riding school! I can smell the leather and horse and feel the sway of riding. THANKS!💖
House Of Cats exactly what I thought as well.
I haven't been in the saddle for two years now, but I don't recall that noise and was at first wondering what it was and whether it was the reason 'good boy' seemed so, well nervous is to big a word, maybe exited.
@@caranorn new saddle maybe?
He looks like a very good boy, thanks for sharing the experience with us all.
Our pleasure!
The mule is why I subscribed. I just love seeing you interact with that guy.
I’m going to be honest this mule has completely stolen my heart. And the camera angle is great he looks so fluffy.
What a good lad for taking care of you 'round that downed tree! And you were kind enough to let him figure out the pile of limbs wasn't going to eat him. 😉 Such a trust has been built up between the two of you.
Thank you for the ride!
I love his long ears pointed forward. He is curious of his environment, lovely grey colour 😍
Martine in France I think his mama must’ve been an Andalusian.
Thank you for sharing this video with us! I'm falling in love with this nameless boy! It's clear he has a wonderful new home with you.
I can almost hear this mule thinking. The way he looks at everything, he's very interested in the world around him. It's like you guys are on a friendly stroll together rather than just a person riding a mule. I think this mule would be a very good friend.
The world is best seen between the ears of a horse, and (I guess) those of a mule. 🥰
Amen, Sister!❤
I’d take a mule over a horse any time when in the woods or in the dark. I’ve never had a mule run off or try to scrape me off on a tree. They’re sure footed on any terrain. My daughter calls them the dirt bike of equestrians.
Y’all are selling me on getting a mule next time I get an equine.
Horses gets all the credits just because are beauty... sad but true
Wait they really try to scrape you off trees?! I hate horses even more now
@@fwuuton If the horse really doesn't want you on its back some will do that. Also. the horse may try running fast through the woods, going under branches barely high enough to fit its head, and between trees so close together that the horse barely fits (and your legs don't).
A horse's personality really matters, as does the rider's relationship with the horse. It is not at all like having a vehicle (and what car can fuel itself while waiting for you, and show up when you whistle?).
Also, cars don't stop and absolutely refuse to cross a bridge. Some horses are like that. Their individual fears are important.
This is the content we want.
Yes, please. I could watch this, without a word or sappy music, just the sound of nature and rider, all day.
Great way to end the evening. ASMR ride through the woods with the occasional "Good boy".
I still think his name should be "Pensador", Thinker. Love the semaphore ears.
What kind of a saddle did you find worked best for him?
Sherrie Ludwig
there are some good videos on this topic, try a search on youtube: mule saddle
I'm a native spanish speaker, and "Pensador" sounds very distinguished and knightly to my ears.
So fun to watch. The mule's long ears are brilliant !
These videos remind me of how much I used to love riding. Thanks Jason!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for posting this it’s very comforting to listen to. My mule’s hooves soothe my nerves. My favorite animal ever.
Fixed on fluffy ears....
Yeah, they're quite something aren't they. Hypnotic.
I would get lost looking at the ears and not were im going 😂
Well, that was a very scary pile of wood, Dad!
Mules are used to guard horses from coyote and wolves. They're not fearful, but smart and can be aggressive.
@@anthonyoer4778 Yes I agree with you. I was attempting a wee bit of humor. I will say the mules attitude was more of "let's assess this lump of matter and determine if it warrants any action". That being said, he did appear to relax a bit when the woodlands opened up to the pasture/meadow. Much better to be able to see any danger coming!
@@juadonna also he is from Spain maybe he's looking for snakes
What a lovely ride. The quiet and green, the sweet ears giving away his mental state, your kind voice, the creak of the saddle, the bird singing- then, TIGER!... And into the sunset. Just wonderful. Thank you.
Also, how about "Brave" as a name for this fellow?
It's amazing how we are all animals at heart...this pulls at the heartstrings, as an instinct.
Well he seems to coming along quite well! He is very attentive! Well done Jason Well done indeed!
Thank you, very soothing. Thinking in a past life I had a stalwart mule. Blessed Be...
Absolutely wonderful! I had no idea that I'd enjoy that, my first ever ride, on a mule as much as I did! A lovely experience, thank you, Jason.
Glad you enjoyed it!
So cute watching his ears go from keen interest in his surroundings to contented droopyness.
Hey I’ve been isolated in the middle of Adirondack mountains in New York USA since March 15 with just my dog. My dog got sick last week and almost died. Since then I’ve been nursing him back to health and watching hours of your videos. I love them and they make me happy so thank you.
glad we could help a little. good luck and I hope it all works out for you and doggy.
One thing I’ve learned from my interests in history and your show is times have been harder to say the least lol. We’ll get through it thanks again
Andrew McNamara Hope your dog does OK. My cat (and long-time companion) got very ill with pneumonia during this lockdown. I had to take him to the vet in a cat carrier, hand him out through the window, sit in the car, and eventually get him back with medicine. He was given a complete examination and a shot, but I was not able to see any of it. The vet called me on my cell phone afterwards and explained what she did. It was very strange not to be able to go into the office with him.
Fleet Skipper I had the same experience! It was so weird, I don’t even know what the doctors look like that saved my dog.
He is a lucky mule, for sure! I love your riding style. Thoughtful, gentle but firm, quiet seat and hands and voice. Again, he's a lucky fellow. And you are blessed that he's chosen you. Thanks for this lovely video. More like it would be wonderful, especially these stressful days. I can no longer ride my horse, so this virtual ride was most welcome. I'll watch it many times, I suspect.
The rhythm of the ride, the sound of the squeaking saddle, and the soft light of the greening wood is so soothing. Thank you.
our pleasure.
I love his silvery ears. They look so soft. And they're so expressive! What a lovely creature. Thank you for sharing him with us this way.
our pleasure, he's a character that's for sure.
What a marvellous creature. Those ears are so wonderful.
I suggest Clint as a name, after the man with no name from the best western ever filmed.
YES! CLINT...PERFECT😊
This needs more likes, Jason needs to see this. I 150% vote for Clint.
Samuel Castro
Remember that the mule can veto any name he feels doesn’t fit him.
Clint is a very good name for mule
Besides my on suggestion of "America", I like that name too!
At this point, he's not the mule with no name, he's the mule with too many names! :D
I loved the sights and sounds of the ride and being able to focus on where his attention was as indicated by his "antennae". Please give him a dignified name - he deserves it!
Beautiful boy. The relationship and trust is really building, fantastic to experience these wonderful moments of the journey between you both. Thank you
I love those ears! Thanks for posting. I can't wait to hear his name when you think of one!
I was so happy to see a new mule video; my interest was definitely peaked after you introduced all of us to him. He looks like he enjoys the ride and is really taking in his surroundings. I can't wait until the next mule video and I hope you'll have given the handsome lad a name. 👍
Thank you for all the high quality content. He is much more relaxed with the bit and I can tell you’ve put a lot of time and effort into building trust. Your hard work is paying off. He goes really well for you. I love the long ears!!!
I can't tell you how much these relaxing walks in the woods are doing for my soul! Thank you for taking us along!!! :)
Our pleasure!
It's good to have a Destrier and a mule. One day you can be a "Sir," the next you can be "Your Eminence." Nice. LOL
im growing quite fond of this mule lad
I'm so soothed. This is a genuine feeling lost in a crowded cities. Clean, clear, and clarity.
glad you enjoyed it.
Seven minutes of quiet and peace. Thank you once again for sharing such moments.
I love mules. I spent a good portion of my childhood around lots of them.
He is, indeed, a good boy. I became fixated on the ears wondering what he was listening to. I think for sure there was a troll under that pile of wood and he saved you from a horrible death!
I've never ridden a horse / 4 footed animal properly but the sound of all the track as you were riding just made me smile so much... Thank you.
Great video! And brings back memories of the hundreds of backcountry miles in Wyoming and Idaho I put on my mule Ben who I had for 33 yrs. He died 4 yrs ago but taught me that all wild country looks better between the ears of a good saddle mule.
RIP Ben.
Best. Ears. Ever!!!
It was very interesting watching the mule pivot his ears to listen to his environment.
Aww. His gait is so bouncy and energetic. He’s so enjoying himself. What an absolutely beautiful scene to ride in, and a lovely companion to enjoy it with. Thank you. Such a pleasure to watch.
Oh, thank you for a lovely ride. I really like this mule. He is very alert. I liked how you "negotiated" that wood pile. You said in an earlier video with him that negotiations were what seemed to work best with him. Lovely, just lovely.
Name him Sancho. I think that would be fitting because he is from Spain but it's also the name of Don Quixote's squire who rode a mule.
Anyhow I enjoy how you two come along and how much he enjoys the riding through an English forest.
By that logic would he not be Rocinante?
@@stevenhobbs2183 Isn't Rocinante Don Quixote's horse? Looks like Dapple is the name of Sancho's mule.
Now I don’t have a say but I’d name my mule Sancho. I love that idea
Yes, Rocinante is Don Quixote's horse. Sancho rides a donkey in the original story not a mule (maybe in english translations it is a mule, who know why) and he calls it by his fur color, not by his name (the name of the donkey, if it has any, is never said in the book) and in spanish horse breeding tradition they don't use stantard color names (except black and white) but instead they have words for every posible combination, most of them centuries old and unique unlike any common word, so they often say things like " go and fetch me my _ruano_ " (or any given fur color) so you know immediatly that is a horse/mount, and which one the person wants if he owns more than one (the spanish equine coat color system was unique in this sense until modern breeding got kind of standardized worldwide)
In the case of Sancho's donkey, he calls him _"el rucio"._ This fur color corresponds to a dirty beige tone with interlaced gray hairs. So the more aproximate translation to _el rucio_ would be "the brownish" or more precisely "the dun".
(the dapple is not exactly the right fur, but oh well, is acceptable)
4.bp.blogspot.com/-X8yD1G7EJF4/ToIt2dPWYKI/AAAAAAAAC4c/WiLxJEUPARs/s320/FotoSketcher%2B-%2Brucio2.jpg
Rocinante is the name of the Corvette in The Expanse books/show, that reference is awesome.
This is actually relaxing, I love your content, keep up the good work!
These videos are beautiful. Thank you for giving us another!
Mule ears are adorbs, I'm learning. I call him gumdrop because he looks so cute. :) Floppy ears are so sweet!
I will say I'm a lot jealous. (Doesn't help I haven't been near a horse in ages ☹️😢)
Me neither, and dying of intense jealousy! 😟😥
Same here
same mate :(
Yay! The mule is back - got to love those ears!
I like the ears; they look like direction pointer. What a wonderful mule; a keeper for sure.
What a handsome mule. Truly a boon of a steadfast companion.
I dont know how to explain this video but it feels nice to watch it
Lovely to see this fellow again, and I greatly enjoyed the POV. From that angle, one can really see what you meant when you mentioned having "less animal" in front of you than with a horse. He's as attentive as ever, and I noticed that he seems to be mouthing a lot less than when you first got him - I guess the bit situation is finally sorted.
Thanks, once again for the interesting content! I remain curious about where this clever lad's progress takes you both.
We needed this. Sometimes I wish I lived a simple peasant life until I learn history.
Thank you for bringing the sights and sounds of your ride to us stay-at-homes. ☺
I've been through the woodland on a mule with no name
Hahahaha
Nananananana
Ok, I had to sing it with your phrase...
🎶It felt good to be out on the range.🎶
It is so cute just seeing two big floppy ears moving around for most of the video. Makes me want to ride a mule. I've only ever ridden horses. I really just would love to trail ride on either right now. Haven't ridden on the trail in forever and it's been a while since I rode at all.
I've loved mules since I was a child. We visited the Grand Canyon and my Dad took me to the stables to see the mules who take riders down into the canyon. If I had a mule I would name him Herbert! Your mule is awesome!!!
What an oddly quiet, yet relaxing video. Thanks for this one, Sir Kingsley.
You're very welcome
You have a friend for life, Jason!
Should buy him red tack and call him Mule-n Rouge.
I love how you bring a perspective on things that has been lost in the modern era. Much has been forgotten that we can learn from. Thank you sir.
I would love a two (or more) hour version of this. This is incredibly relaxing. And the Mule with no name is such a pretty boy, he even looks good from this perspective
The fact that this mule has no name makes it even more medieval lol
Animals people didn't have any special bond with would usually not even get names, only sometimes nicknames like "the chestnut" or "that one with a star" xD
I really like this guy, I've never seen a European mule in my life but from what I can see here he doesn't act like any horse or donkey I know...
Man I'm glad I stumbled across this channel
This, and the ride with Talos video, are suprisingly peaceful to watch. Thank you for sharing them!
Brilliant Jason, thank you. Lovely to see the woods in sunshine!
His color reminds me of a storm clouds silver lining, very pretty mule!
He is a pretty grey...
All I can think of is the song “I’ve been through the desert on the horse with no name”
The title made me hum. lol
This was actually oddly calming and fun to watch.
The mule edition of what we in Norway call slow tv.
Springskalle I love the concept of slow TV.
This was therapeutic ! Been quarantined for two months now, so I enjoyed every moment, every bird singing, every ray of sunshine on the leaves. Thank you so much, I hope that good mule got lots of petting ❤️
