Thank you so much. I wasn't clueless on the whole process, but this cleared things up and restored my confidence 10 fold. Though I'm gonna go a step further to keep my steering wheel radio controls with a swc universal adapter.
Thanks! My kid jammed coins in the cd slot of the original stereo. Glad to have tunes again!
One thing I discovered is that you want to avoid turning on the ignition while the passenger airbag warning light is unplugged. Doing so will set a fault in the airbag control module, and you'll end up with a flashing airbag light when you're done.
If anyone makes this mistake, there is a fairly simple reset procedure.
1. Turn key on and wait for airbag light to start blinking - turn key OFF as soon as light disappears the first time.
2. Wait 5 seconds and repeat step one TWO additional times, 5 seconds between each operation.
3. When you turn ignition on the fourth time, the light will enter a slow blink mode. Turn key OFF, wait 5 seconds, turn back on.
Your airbag control module should now be cleared of faults.
Good info, I've done a couple behind-dash installs in my X so I didn't remember to mention it since it has become routine for me now. Thanks for watching!
This is the second time I had to reset my airbag light and your comment saved my ass. Thanks
@@jpeero Don't think so, unless it also speaks Nissan CONSULT, which is probably the only way to communicate with any body modules - possibly with Nisscan and a compatible bluetooth OBDII module.
I just installed an ATOTO S8 Standard in my 2014 Xterra that came with the standard non-amplified LCD screen Panasonic Head Unit. I got the steering controls working and everything works fine. I have not done a radio install since 1992 so I had no idea what I was doing. It took a good bit of research to figure out how to connect it but now, looking back it seems so simple. If you have a 2011-2015 Xterra and it is not the Pro-X with Rockford Fosgate on the radio then you probably do not have an amplifier unless someone installed it later. Just get the FSM schematic for your Audio System and pair each wire to your new head unit. Eventually the cloud lifts and it becomes clear how easy this is. Really. It's NOT as difficult as it seems at first once you figure out the wires.
Dude! I'm 03:55 in and $300 in the black. Thanks for a really great video ... Very very useful. (Yes ... I'll watch to the end).
That was extremely well done. Should be very helpful when I get around to doing this in my frontier
Oh thanks for showing us how to wire it
Can you put steering wheel controls on the steering wheel. Can you but the switch for the steering wheel?
Great video, but how did you hook up the steering wheel controls? Thanks!
There are provisions for them, but my Xterra does not have them so I can't speak to that unfortunately. Thanks for watching!
My 2010 xterra is different, the front bezel is separated from the climate control. Only the top stereo surround has to be installed, the climate control area is not touched.
Why do you need a new dash kit? Why can’t you use the original? And why do you need to Sauter the wires?
I’m looking at installing a new radio and idk what I’m doing but it appears all I need is an adapter that connects the radio to the car.
Do you remember if the steering wheel wire was behind the radio? Mine doesn't have steering wheel controls. I was hoping the wire was there and I can just buy the controls for the steering wheel.
Thanks
I do not, I don't recall any unused harnesses or plugs back there. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. What size wire harness sleeve did you use?
The braided sleeve? I can't remember, I have quite a few bulk rolls and just grabbed what fit by eye. Thanks for watching!
A good video but u need to slow down and actually watch somebody do your procedure as you watch them. I took the 10 and there are exactly 10 torx black screws on my faceplate. The portion where the climate control unit is loose, however the radio section refuses to push out. I saw 2 little screws on the radio mount. But the radio section refuses to push out. And I don't want to break it. When you do procedures please do the entire procedure as people watch. It would be helpful if I actually saw the unit come out as you removed the 10 torx screws and it came right out.
Would this unit be able to display a back up camera as well? My mother in law has an 11 frontier and really wants a back up camera so I'm trying to figure out how to get that done for her :)
I believe it can, but as far as setup is concerned I can't speak to that as I haven't configured one of these units for that operation. Thanks for watching!
Hello, I need help with orange wire which says 'illumination/dimmer wire' which free to connect but I'm not where to connect. My car is Nissan versa 2008 with Atoto A6 PF
thanks for the video...I would have like to see the actual removal and install. I know time and filming is limited..but you can always edit..again..thanks for the video. One question. How does it look close up? Is it easy to see its after market? is there a bezel to use? thanks again
It looks basically like it does in the video - you need the dash kit to adapt everything to accommodate a double-DIN stereo, but otherwise, everything fits very well, and with this particular headunit, no extra bezels are required to size the headunit up to the double-DIN cutout. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Is this one «ATOTO A6 Pro 7" Android Car GPS Bluetooth aptX QC 2.0 WiFi A6Y2721PRB» correctly for 2012 xterra? Or all atoto a6 is same size?

Porqué les costará tanto trabajo a estos realizadores de videos, en poner subtítulos la verdad no entiendo
When I got to order a stereo from crutchfield it says to prevent overheating on my new unit that I should change out my speakers or add an amplifier, do you need to do that with yours?
Hello, can this unit and all the additional parts necessary for installation fit inside my 2013 Nissan Xterra S? Also, what was the total time it took for you to complete this install?? Thanks!!
I believe that it will, as I don't know of any interior changes between model years of second gen Xterras. It took me 3 or 4 hours to get everything buttoned up, but that was over a couple days since I needed to order a few items I thought I had on hand but didn't. Thanks for watching!
Awesome and thank you for the quick response back!! I'm excited to get started on installing one in my Xterra.
@redonKiLaus did you solder the wire harness that came with the ATOTO A6 to the radio wiring harness? do you have a photo/video showing how you did the wiring?
R u able to remove the silver vent covers? Or is the whole bezel just one piece? Thanks
The whole bezel is one piece, although you may be able to separate the silver covers once the entire unit is removed. Thanks for watching!
would've been nice to see the actual removal not just after.
You can only film so much when space, help, and time are all limited. Thanks for watching!
For a 2005 Nissan Xterra the link to the in dash install kit says not for 2005? Which is what I have.
I believe it's the same, but maybe first year of that generation was different...not sure to be honest. Thanks for watching!
Will this kit work for a 2014 Frontier? When I lookup it says no.
From my knowledge it should, but there may be changes I'm not aware of. Thanks for watching!
The antenna harness has a blue wire. Is that ground?
No. It's for Power Antenna. If you do not have a power antenna do not use that wire
(((off camera))) you edited out the best parts. the joy of watching DIY videos. what a shame
A lot of folks find that the most boring - I personally skip past those portions in most videos as well. Thanks for watching!
Do you have a wiring diagram for the harness or do you have to just guess and check?
The harness you buy specific to your vehicle (from Metra, more than likely) has a color code chart, and the stereo harness will also either have that, or will have flags on each wire.
Thanks for watching!
The back of my radio doesn’t look the same? I have a 2012 frontier s is there any way you could reply with the links to the harnesses I’ll need for that year?
Is it equipped with the Rockford system? It should look the same on the back as the factory one I showed if it's the same from the front. Thanks for watching!
@@justism Interesting, they should be the same between Xterra and Frontier for all years post-2006-7 (IIRC), and definitely post 2010. Very strange.
Is he calling us 'So'? Or Sawl?
Can you do this on a 2018 nissian frontier pro 4x? I have a back up camera that I'd hate to loseThe infotainment system they have is completely fucking garbage.. makes me mad everytime I look at it lol
Where do you get a new faceplate?
Amazon, I believe the link is in the video description. Thanks for watching!
Do I hook the antenna adapter wire to the b/w wire on the radio harness( p. Continuous) ?
I can't recall color codes since it's been so long since I did this install, but I believe the antenna harness I made was separate from the main radio harness. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Would this work on Nissan Frontier 2007 king cab ? Any recommendations. Thanks
This same setup should be compatible, but I always recommend doing your own cross checking to make sure. Thanks for watching!
Will this fit a nissan Navara d40 from 2013 UK model?
I believe it will, but cannot confirm on the faceplate/dash kit. Thanks for watching!
Hi, how hard its to wire the original nissan harness to the new radio harness?
If you're talking about cutting off the original Nissan connector, that's not something you want to do by any means. If you're referring to what I did in this video (connecting the new Nissan-compatible harness to the one from the new headunit), then it's quite easy for somebody with some wiring experience. Thanks for watching!
@@redonKiLaus Hello, great video by the way! Do you have wiring diagram/color codes for your harness? The ones I’ve found online are not quite the same.
@@TheBryanF I don't anymore, but it is printed on the package for the harness and labelled on this particular stereo's harness - others will be detailed in the stereo's manual. Thanks for watching!
Can you still use the steering wheel controls?
I believe you can adapt them using some creative wiring techniques, but they would not work by default - my Xterra does not have them, so it is a non-issue for me.
Thanks for watching!
i have 2008 frontier, as far as size of stereo, what is a perfect fit?
A double DIN headunit works great with the dash kit I show in this video. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Would this work for 2004 nissan titan?
The headunit might, the other parts I believe are different in the Titan. Thanks for watching!
If the dash kit isn't engineered properly, I will send it back.
Can you do me a favour and list the part numbers for everything you used please
So, when you’re showing how to disconnect all the plugs in the back-especially for the climate control-it would be helpful if you got the camera close enough and or didn’t put your hand in the way to see the quick “push tab and crank it over this way and pull it out…” 🙄🙄
If it were possible to fit a camera in there I'd love to do that, but unfortunately tight quarters don't fit a DSLR. Thanks for watching!
So many comments demanding more info. THANK YOU for taking your time to post this video. People need to appreciate what you GAVE and not treat you like a servant at their beck and call.
