A few of their others to check out at some point are, " Body Talk" #4, "In And Out Of Love" #16, "Flashback" #16, "Music And Lights" #5, "In The Heat Of The Night" #22, "Changes" #31 and of course this song, "Just An Illusion" got to #2 here on the UK Singles Charts. Actually got to see these guys back in 1982. 😊
Great reaction, Jay and Amber. This band, a trio, was from London, England, this track was released in the U.K. in 1981, the lead singer was Leee John. Other tracks by them to check out are, 'Body Talk' and 'Flashback' there are other songs but these are their best ones.
In case no one mentioned it, this is the closing song for the movie F/X starring Bryan Brown (starred with Tom Cruise in "Cocktail") and Brian Dennehy (starred with Sylvester Stallone in "First Blood"). It fits perfectly with the theme of the movie which was about special effects...get it? F X. 😊 You might want to add that one to your movie reactions. It's a really cool movie. And, there's a sequel F/X 2
Don't know if you're a General Hospital fan, but the actor playing Rachel Ticotin's son in F/X 2, Dominic Zamprogna, plays Dante Falconeri, son of mobster, Sonny Corinthos on GH.
The song "Say I’m Your Number 1" has been stuck in my head for a few days now. I saw it's on the list of Freddie Mercury's personal record collection, up for auction right now. By the way, “Don't Lose Your Head” by Queen features Joan Armatrading in a vocal cameo.
Every CD Imagination released had great songs on it. All of their music videos were entertaining. Leee John loves to twirl. Imagination was one of the rare groups that actually had all enjoyable songs on each and every album. All albums included really nice ballots. The best three songs were "Touch" , "Last Days of Summer" And Fascination Of The Physical". Their first album, "Body Talk" in 1981 included the title track; "Body Talk", "Burnin' Up" (an instrumental jam) and "Flash Back", were the best songs. In 1982 their second album, "In The Heat Of The Night" included the title track; "In The Heat Of The Night", "Music And Lights", "Just And Illusion and Changes". Their third album was "Scandalous" in 1983, the best songs were "New Dimension", "Point Of No Return", "Shoo Be Doo Da Dabba Doobee" and "Looking at Midnight". Their fourth album in 1984 was "Trilogy". The best songs were "Last Days Of Summer", "One Heart" And "Breathless (Helpless)". In 1987 the "Closer" album, their fifth, included, "Touch", "Paranoia", "Instinctual" and "Operator". Their final album was "The Fascination Of The Physical" in 1989. The title track, "Fascination Of The Physical" was it and a few nice ballots. A few of the songs sound like they were going straight for workout video. If you like the sound of Imagination, the studio albums are worth purchasing, they contain a lot of great songs the greatest hits albums do not include. Other great UK group that had all great songs on their albums was Loose Ends.
Whoa! Hold on now! I don’t think I’ve ever seen this song reacted to anywhere before. This is one of those tracks (for me at least) which take you to a certain place and time and this smooth, dance groove is like a warm blanket of great memories from a time when my biggest worry was probably getting a term paper done 😂 so that my band of crazy friends and me could get to the important things which at that time was out to 🕺 Thanks for reacting to this and Jay I love that you singled out the bass solo because that’s one of the elements I have always loved about this song too.
Omg!!! Finally someone reacts to this little gem!!! It’s so much fun to dance to…I grew up listening to this in the 80’s…and in the early 2000’s I had it playing in my mind…and didn’t know who sang it or where I could find it…I eventually sang it to a guy in a cd shop, and we figured out who it was and ordered it for me! It was such a glorious moment…I watched them live at an 80’s Rewind concert in 2012 in South Africa…they were great!!! I call this “get down” music.
Yes! Yes! Yes! to Level 42. ‘Running in the Family’, ‘Lessons in Love’, ‘Something About You’ are just a few hits to start off with. The slap base by Mark King is just unreal!!
Imagination was a successful British dance band who had modest success in the U.S. "Just An Illusion" only "bubbled under" @ #102 on the Billboard Hot 100. On the Soul chart, it peaked @#27 and peaked @ #15 on the Disco/Dance chart in 1982. Imagination never charted any singles on the Billboard Hot 100 but did chart 7 tracks on the Soul chart ("JAI" was the highest charting) and had 6 chartings on the Disco/Dance chart (most were between 1982 - 1984 and I remember them) but surprisingly, in 1988, a title I can't recall "Instinctual" actually was #1 on the Dance chart for a week!
I remember when this came out in the U.S. @ the same time as another band from the UK called Central Line who had the hit “Walking Into Sunshine”. 👏🏾🇬🇧

This is one of those songs I used to hear on Funk Wizard Snow’s Hip-Hop show on Power 99 (Philly radio station) back in the day when Hip-Hop was gaining popularity… This jawn’s a classic! 😎 Another one to check out from that period is ‘I.O.U’ by Freeez, which was featured in ‘Beat Street’. 😉
I remember hearing this song at the end of the movie "F/X" [ a great movie, btw ]. Mid-80's. That was the first time that I had heard it, and only heard it again when I would re-watch F/X [ which was rather frequently ]. Always wanted to find out it's history. And lo and behold ... When they appeared on our legendary UK music show ‘Top of the Pops’ for the first time performing their first hit ‘Body Talk’, the switchboard was jammed with people outraged with their suggestive performance. One to look out for 😉. These guys were wild & didn’t care … how great 👏❤️
This, along with Body Talk, is amongst my all time favorite songs. They were unique in many ways but the heavy bass lines and airy vocals did it for me.

This 80s floor stomper dominated the dance/pop AND Soul charts in its time. Another one of those songs that proves Music Has No Color. A mid tempo masterpiece
Early 80's UK Soul at its finest. Lee John still releasing music today. Other gems from this band are 'Body Talk' ' So Good So Right' ' Flashback' ' Music and Lights''.
Ah, one of my absolute favourite bands of all time! Brilliant funky 80s music! Man, clubbing in London in the 80s... those were the days! Put me in a time machine and send me back there!
Jay and Amber will both probably like most Imagination stuff, particularly the basslines. You could give "Body Talk", "Flashback" or "Music & Lights" a go.
You want a bass solo? Same Old Scene by Roxy Music! I'm sure you'll like it. And yes, this was a fun mix of funky with all the heavy synths that were all the rage at the time. It was in the radio all the time. Flashback and Body Talk are two other songs by them that were very popular.

I bought this when it was released, have the vinyl album. Still sounds JUST as good as it did back then. Thanks for checking this one out. I’d not seen the video though until today. I was living in South of England back then. Possibly ‘too much information’ here but all these years on I’m watching this, on an iPad - the stuff of science fiction back then - in the bath (tub), at 2am in Co. Tipperary, Ireland. If you’d even suggested that back then…well, you know. I did always enjoy a late bath though🤗 Love you guys, love your videos. Now, where’s my plastic duck gone. 🐥
I love imagination. I've been a fan for years. Great songs. I went to a nightclub in Windsor UK called Blazers in the 80s. I was 14 and Imagination were playing that night. Leee Johnson invited me up on the stage to sing with him as I was near the front. I cant sing but he encouraged me and joined in, and it was magical. It was one of the highlights of my life!
You guys are good...that's the era; late 70s/early 80s. Transition periods are great for music because you'll hear a bit of everything. This is why you hear funk and disco mixed with something quite 80s...they were beginning to experiment with the 80s technology like sythesizers, while using disco elements and the funk sound already happening.
Ollie & Jerry "There's No Stopping Us" Carol Lynn Townes " 99 1/2" and The Bar-Kays " Freakshow On The Dance Floor" these are songs around this era - Also Jermaine Stewart "Word is out" has a somewhat similar beat. IMO
My heart went pitter-patter when I saw Imagination because I thought you were reacting to the Earth Wind And Fire song by that name. 😢 It’s a beautiful love song you both will love! If you like them you'll love the band 'Hot Chocolate' that predates Imagination. Songs like 'Emma', 'Everyone's A Winner' and so on. 70's Disco they kinda come under.
Yep, got the album to this track. Loved the band then, still listen to them today. In fact, their track, 'So Good, So Right,' is my wife and I's official 'meeting song.' We made it 'our record' from when we met, which was so good, so right, meeting each other I mean! P.S. I've never seen this video, until now.
Just An Illusion was the first record I ever bought, when I was 11 years old. It blows my mind that over 40 years later people are still hearing it for the first time and loving. What a track!!
Some great early 80's British funk, this was straight fire on the dance floor and skating rinks summer of 82. Check out Mama Used To Say by Junior. Enjoy
I only became aware of this song about a year ago 😂 through the You Tube algorithm! I guess 😃 they had ideas about simulated realities back in 1982! It is an interesting 🤔 concept to ponder! Like everything else, everyone has an opinion about everything, and the same people change their perspective and contradict themselves! So who can we believe? If this life is an illusion or a simulation, it will be revealed to us somewhere down the line, I would hope! Listen to the full 🌕 version of this song, which is about 6 and a half minutes long! Just like Alice observed CURIOSER and 🧐 CURIOSER!
If you like Bass check out Level 42 .... Mark king (lead singer and bassist) is recognized as one of the all time greats ... and it's 80's pop for you too :)
I remember when this dropped and everyone knew it was an immediate classic. These guys pretty much launched the British invasion of the 80's. Their "So Good, So Right" was also a hit. Glad you guys found it. Now how about more British invader hits like Princess's "Say I'm You Number One", Loose Ends doing "Hangin' On A String", Samantha Fox doing "Naughty Girls Need Love Too", and "Never Stop" by Brand New Heavies.

Another 80's banger is D-Train "You're The One For Me", definitely a chair dance classic.
“Keep On”, too. Both take me back to the skating rink. 😎
Classic Jam.
If you like them you'll love the band 'Hot Chocolate' that predates Imagination. Songs like 'Emma', 'Everyone's A Winner' and so on. 70's Disco they kinda come under.
I still remember where I was and what I was doing when I first heard this song. Always loved it.
So glad you did this song! I've always loved it 👍👍💕💕
British soul...yes, you listened to us
I remember this back in the 80's (WJLB FM98 and WGPR for the Detroiters)!!❤ you should react to Yaz "State Farm" or Freez "IOU". 😉
Automatic 👍🏽 without even watching…this was my jam!!!!
OMG, my absolute fav 80s clubbin' track!! never failed to get me on the floor !!
This was massive in the early 80's in the u.k!! 1981 this was everywhere!!! great electro/disco/pop song. ; )
You do have some good bass solos Jay. My favorite one appears on the live version of “Empty Rooms” in Stockholm 1987 by Gary Moore!
VERY popular in the 80s in Italy! Brought me back...❤
Never heard of this Group or this Song before, but I Like It a Lot! :) Thx You Guys for Reacting to an Oldie that I've never heard! :)
Random 80's suggestion: "Living In a Box - Living In a Box". Or "Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days"
Yes, defenitely, this two is 80's Jam.
This is such a perfect song. So catchy.
I first heard this jam in the Spring of 1982. ABSOLUTE CLASSIC.
Met them at an 80s computer show in London, England.
Think they were on an Atari stand for promotion of midi stuff.
What a great track! Thanks for reacting to it.
This song takes me back to my childhood. I have always loved this song! I still jam to it in my car! Great song!
I don't think I'm the only one who wants to see you 2 on the dance floor! Give the people what they want!
One of my favorite songs ❤ body talk, is fantastic to❤
I would love for you guys to react to Imagination 'Music and lights' and 'Body talk'. Can't wait to see what you think of this one though xx
Staple at the skating rink, slow groove shuffle, yeah!!!
Reminds me of my dancing in the club days . It seemed like each song was 15 minutes long . It was so much fun. The 80’s were such a good time ❤️
If you like Bass check out Level 42 .... Mark king (lead singer and bassist) is recognized as one of the all time greats ... and it's 80's pop for you too :)
This one is new to me...and I thank you! Broadens my library of music energy. Nice pick!
They had to have known when they finished recording the song that it would be a hit, HAD TO!
I absolutely adore this song and this group! As an 80's child i grew up listening to these and absolutely nothing else like this type of music.... such smooth disco vibes...
"FLASHBACK" by this trio is a must listen!
Thank you for introducing me to this band!! ❤
I'm.61 i 'm not supposed to be dancing so hard❤❤😂😂😂😂 I love this song ,fgotrtgot atll about it... thanks for the memories.
