I think Might of the Meek is alot stronger than it appears. First off, it's red draw without any of that stupid exile it and you may play it until next turn, which can just translate to miling yourself to get cards that you may not even be able to play atm wasting both your mana spent and the option to play that card later, exile play card also doesn't trigger Draw Card triggers which could be a good or a bad thing depending on the board state. 1 Red draw a card + trample, with no downside. Side note, this whole exile and play a card is such a effect that it should just have keyword. Also it makes red less interesting when every other has it, maybe being a bit hyperbolic but it feels like Wizards forgot red should have burn cards and is now all about exiling your own library. .
@@PowrDragn It's still a cleric and a rare, so it's not like a lot of common pegasus cards or whatever that gives a creature flying for a turn when you play it or they attack together. I think the idea is that it saves them with a spell that grants them the ability to fly, which is part of the reason birds can't be targets (and also making sure it doesn't bounce itself or something similar for some broken combo). I always try to think about MTG mechanics through the lens of: this is D&D where you're not working together, but the same flavor is still there. The difference in this set is that it's inspired by Redwall and similar stories where everyone is an anthropomorphic animals, though the leaked Ral Zerek and alternate versions of other Planeswalkers as animals seems to imply that everything on the plane has to be an animal, even if they come from a different plane. Which I can get into, seeing how cool that concept worked in the Kingdom Hearts games. Perhaps we'll see the same idea in something the the horror set (already forgetting the name) where previous characters suddenly have some 80's looking tech and clothing.
What's up power dragon does have potential. Especially for Commander I am looking forward to making a brand new commander deck properly leaning towards red blue.
I don't have a current list as I keep changing and I'm entirely too lazy to keep up with my Commander decks. I literally have a friend that enjoys that, so I have her update my Commander decks once or twice a year and that's it. This is an older version from several months ago, though I'm pretty sure there are at least 15 cards or more that are different by now. It still works fine though. There's nothing really surprising here, it's all the obvious cards. I don't build Commander to be over the top strong. I play to do the fun things that CAN be strong, but want to do the fun things first. For this deck I carry a box of dice to the table. ;) www.moxfield.com/decks/AViF8iBdBE-vvoCKl1ljaQ
Some of those are rotating standard, but they seem to be pushing +1/+1 counters as more of a green mechanic (it kind of needs it, since it's often just lands, creatures and mana without much else), and white already has a decent amount of access to growing creatures. And we have that spider doll in the next set that creates a mana and gets a (generic name) counter and sacs for that many 2/2 spiders with reach if you tap it at sorcery speed. Though it cleverly doesn't specify what kind of counters it looks at for the number of spiders. Maybe we'll start getting more ability counters in green, like flying and the like. And Proliferate or similar mechanics in the future work with this too, so perhaps green can carve out more of a niche with creatures and/or tokens being more exploitable. Adapt or something similar is likely easy to bring back, and a bunch of those mechanics make more sense when you get G/x cards.
Carrot Cake might work in Boros, either after rotation or as the next few sets come out. You get an artifact, a 1/1 and scry 1. If you can blow it up with demolition, thats 5 creatures and scrying twice. If not, you get the creature and scry later with some life, which could mean a lot if the deck desperately needs an artifact or starts needing some plays for longer games. And it feels really likely we see Rabbits that produce more rabbits ny having or tapping rabbits, since that's what bunnies are known for. And bats mattering could end up with some great synergy for Deep-Cavern bat and maybe the white 1-drop. Maybe just the tribe that WB lifegain needs to work consistently after rotation. The big question is: Secret Lair/Realms Beyond Zootopia announcing when? lol
Yeah, I had a though about a Zootopia crossover. Truthfulyl though it could be anything with talking animals though. Zootopia, Care Bears, Looney Tunes, Madagascar, Secret Life of Pets...there's a lot to pick from.
Ok. For some reason I was thinking it stacked like toxic creatures if that creature already had prowess. But I was also thinking of Khenras other side having double prowess. Thanks!
@shotaki4496 prowess can stack, but being a static ability I can't be certain if it would stack with inherent prowess on other creatures or not. My intuition says no, and magic rules are always intuitive..... right?
Divination saw play, and this is discounted with an ability that wants a certain type of creature. Specifically, it wants otters, which kind of look to be like an Izzet tempo take on U/G merfolk.
They'll likely level out to each other down the road. The newest thing mentioned and furthest away often is higher since places spike the prices to jump on the hype train.
"For raccoons, which I'm not sure if we have" Mate, you're producing video content specifically about these cards. A 20 second Scryfall search shows 5 black border and 1 silver border raccoons currently printed. You have a clear voice, and calm manner which is really nice to listen to, as well as decent production values. But little things like a quick search are such easy things to get right, given the whole point of the video is commenting on these cards. I wish you the best with the future of your channel.
Pretty sure Power Dragon is talking about for standard. Not for what's rotating out or commander or silver border. And the thing is, only 1 of the ones you mention to be a stickler is even remotely playable and it's the mana dork. The other two that aren't silver border or rotating out are draft chaff. You gonna throw a fit about a single card that may not even be played? 😂 Walk your "well-actually" self back and have a think. 😂
When I do the reviews, I'm simply looking at the cards and giving my opinions in real time off the cuff. I don't really think there's anything wrong with "I'm not sure" as a statement either. Though, you are correct that we have racoons. Only three current ones will be standard legal. The only one of those that's likely to get any play is Bramble Familiar and neither of its types have been relevant thus far. Overall, it's not a really a big deal. It doesn't really change my assessment of the cards. I'm rarely doing any research when covering previews, especially when they start dropping daily, while also doing my other daily content. I'm more just looking at what's fun and interesting to build with on the channel or things we might expect folks to play. That said, if that type of take bothers you, I get it. The way I present the previews may not hit for everyone.
As a newcomer to magic, you explain the cards and possible synergies very well, thank you. +1 subscriber !
You're welcome! thanks for watching. :)
This set gives me a strong "Redwall" vibes, and I love it.
5:16 I love that the art on this card is a throwback to the Avacyn Restored art for Restoration Angel. Super flavorful 👌
Yeah, makes a lot of sense with how the card functions.

We have raccoon as a creature type! Bramble familiar, the tanuki from Kamigawa etc...
There are a few actual typed raccoon but for some reason the tanukis are considered dogs.
I love that Beyrke is just sudo kalonian hydra
I believe the intent with Salvation Sean is that the creature exiled and brought back is, effectively, riding the bird (on a thematic level)
I thought that at first, but then each creature always flies without it. Unless they are all riding one giant swan or something. LOL
Gonna call that card Salvation Sean every time I see it.

I can’t wait to see the crazy card names this set has

On a legendary multi color
I play comander so alot of these ar actually really helpful
Great video thanks
Thanks for watching.
I heard you said you had a commander deck with +1/+1 counters. I am currently building one of those, so could you share a decklist?
I don't have a current list as I keep changing and I'm entirely too lazy to keep up with my Commander decks. I literally have a friend that enjoys that, so I have her update my Commander decks once or twice a year and that's it.

Imagine Byrke, with Kodama of the West Tree and Railway Brawler or anything that will distribute or gain counters like Beastcaller, or uh Adaptive?
Some of those are rotating standard, but they seem to be pushing +1/+1 counters as more of a green mechanic (it kind of needs it, since it's often just lands, creatures and mana without much else), and white already has a decent amount of access to growing creatures.

Izzet Prowess? Does that Otter give Double Prowess to others or did I read that wrong?
The card itself has Prowess and give your other creatures a singular instance of Prowess.
Ok. For some reason I was thinking it stacked like toxic creatures if that creature already had prowess.
But I was also thinking of Khenras other side having double prowess.
Thanks!

There was a few Raccoons on New Capenna
That's true. I think I was considering what'll be Standard legal. Though thinking about it now, it's sad that those racoons weren't really playable.
Mabel + Nahiri, Forged in Fury might be a viable combo.
I'm thinking Mabel and three blind mice.
Quite possibly.
Pearl of wisdom at sorcery speed doenst let someone hold up counter mana
Doesn't need to necessarily be for control deck trying to counter a bunch of things.
Divination saw play, and this is discounted with an ability that wants a certain type of creature. Specifically, it wants otters, which kind of look to be like an Izzet tempo take on U/G merfolk.
It’s weird this set is listed as cheaper than Duskmourn.
They'll likely level out to each other down the road. The newest thing mentioned and furthest away often is higher since places spike the prices to jump on the hype train.
Nooooo it’s too early, too soon!!
Nah, it's about right. It's why I waited. Actual set release is only about 5 weeks away.
2 more days and you should start seeing it in mastery pass
