I am surprised how tough and inquisitive the doves are. I think they want to be tiels, they even land on my shoulder now when I go in the aviary like the tiels do. Thanks for watching.
Well if you watch my videos you'll see that I have doves and tiels and many other birds together. But don't put a large parrot like a grey or macaw in with small birds like tiels or doves.
L. W. My white wing smacks my parakeets and dogs when they get too close sometimes, it’ll sometimes slap me, but loves it when I scratch around it’s neck.
Cockatiels and Doves are all just big babies (cuddle-bugs). A parrotlet comes in and says "This,....this is all mine!! Bow before your tiny king!!" Its just so cute how they are trying to flex in front of each other. :p
+Melissa Diaz My Cockatiels are all lovely and have never hurt any other birds in the aviary. The doves act like this whenever they encounter a new bird for the first time, but they soon relax. Thanks for watching.
Cockatiels are tough, but they aren't real fighters. They might nip if you bother them, but I've never seen them purposefully try to hurt someone unless they're being territorial around a nest. Even then though, they try to drive you off first, and only bite if you don't get the message.
Interesting that the Cockatiels backed down. Considering if they wanted to they could have inflicted some SERIOUS damage on that Dove. Pigeons and Doves only have two main defenses when defending themselves. Either give it's foe a wing slap which we saw here in the video. Or if captured by a predator leave them with a mouth or beak full of feathers and then escape if there able.
I have a dove and a cockatiel and the dove always manages to intimidate the cockatiel until she can get whatever it is she wants. Yeah the cockatiel could do more damage if he wanted to, but ringneck doves are bigger so the cockatiel doesn't know that.
Doves are very good at intimidating. I used to have my doves inside and let my green cheek conure out at the same time with them. Lets just say that my female dove beat the crap out of my conure over food. Doves will fight just about anything when they feel threatened.
Well i've been in the avian field now for the better part of 30yrs. Having "hands on" experience with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey and Budgies to Macaws. And also own 6 parrots of various sizes and species. And i can say that while Pigeons and Doves are aggressive when they want too be. Their is NOTHING they could do if a Conure decide to take a chunk out of it. Cockatiels which i've owned many over the years are quite peaceful to the point that they can even be mixed with finches in large aviaries. However, once we get into the Aratinga species of Conure such as Suns, Jendays, Nandays, etc...They can be VERY aggressive when the mood strikes them. And i don't think any dove would fair well against one. There not called "hook bills" for nothing folks.
I used to put parrot food in my backyard and there would be regular pigeons (rock doves) eating it as well. One time there were a lot of pigeons and cockatoos eating (little corella's and sulphur crested) and I saw them fighting over the food. Like 10 minutes later all the birds are gone but 1 dead pigeon, those bigger cockatoos can be fatal with their beaks, I then buried the pigeon where my dead chickens were buried.
Yellow cockatiel distracted the dove for a little but when the dove started eating the other 2 tiels silently agreed to bail... who is next on the doves challenge list? lol
I have pigions... that pigion will wing slap those skinny birds away in a second...I think she's confused thinking what the hell do they think they are doing eating in front of me , they must be crazy

The tiels also eat many grasses, fruit and veg.
Are the Cockatiels bullying the Dove? Does anyone know if they truly get along as pets? I have had a lot of Cockatiels but I would like to have a Dove and a Cockatiel.

That looks like a huge aviary. I couldn't get away with using that type of wire cause my cockatoo would Q right through that he may not even want to but I couldn't take the risk
@@CockatielCompanion thank u for the reply. I am 57 and don't know how long I can keep doing this. You wouldn't by chance live near Philadelphia? If you did,I'd love to give you my 3 Cockatiels. They need a better life. I want to let them out of their cages to have the freedom to fly and move about in the 12'x30" room. I tried it and it ended up a tragedy. My Cockatoo killed the one cockatiel. It's weird because I have a cockatail from a while ago and he is safe around the cockatoo but these newer birds he wanted to kill them by the want somebody to take care of them in if you are in the general area I'd love that give them to somebody that has an outdoor aviary.
If I was nearby I would take them but I'm in New Zealand. My wife turns 57 in a few weeks and we've not long got a Corella that she raised from 6 days old. He is now around 18 months. He may outlive both of us. Can you not let the cockatiels out at different times to the Cockatoo?
lavan liam Depends on how they stand ;) Overall the doves are bigger, but being bitten by a dove is like being touched lightly, whereas a cockatiel bite can make you bleed. Thanks for watching.
I was worried for the dove cause cockatiel bites can be very strong. Doves bite and slap with their wings but it's overall very weak/gentle. Glad to see the dove psych the cockatiels out with the slaps because if both species knew what they were doing, the cockatiels would win based on their beak strength. Love both but doves >>>>>> cockatiels.
Cockatiels are far nicer than doves and unlikely to draw blood unless they got hold of a leg. But my Cockatiels are all lovely. They back down against EVERY species in my aviary, even the much smaller ones. Perhaps you should look at some of my other videos to get a better grasp of what you are watching. The doves were never in danger.
Tiel: “Ay back up!”
Dove: “OR WHAT?”
Tiel: “It was just a prank bro”

I like that the Dove will not be intimidated, and gets to food bowl eventually. Those cockatiels look so cute.

Melissa Diaz cockatiels are the sweetest parrots out there. Sure they may bite and hiss but that can be easily stopped.
