    In the 1980s, I must’ve owned five Ladas, all old, all secondhand, they were just so cheap, everyone of them used, oil in fact, in my last one, I was given some oil intended for a diesel truck when I put that in it stop using up Oil no idea how, but them engines are totally robust. I’ve never took One part because I’ve never had to I would come out on a cold and frosty morning in northern England everyone would be struggling to start their cars,I would buy my car cheaper then one months payment on their cars. I would jump in mine first start and away, I still miss the Lada to this day, thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I look forward to everyone.

    Great to see you're renovating the Lada engine. Dont forget to lubricate the bearings everywhere inside when you put it together. And even if you clean the engine I think it always looks nicer when the engine is painted and clean... Easyer and nicer to see if there is oil leaks after and always nicer to do works on when its new painted. 🤗 Great videos you make. Keep going. 👍

    My respect for your persistence, the Lada is a money pit, I would have scrapped it long ago. But our advantage, we get to see interesting films Greetings Ed

    Really great content again Seppo, I have always repaired all of my own cars over the last 50 years but never had the courage to carry out a full engine strip and rebuild.Ive just added the finishing touches to my 2cv refurb by putting my Seaside Garage sticker in pride of place in the rear window.

    I would lightly hone the cylinders and fit some new rings- in for a penny, in for a pound as they say! Pistons look fine, but there is no substitute for proper measurement.
    Great channel by the way Seppo!

    The Niva engines were treated with a little more care than the Riva and Samara engines because there was always the chance the Niva could be part of a MoD batch issue and no one at Lada wanted Vlad's mates popping round with a family prize of a holiday to gulag for buggering up military spec stuff, unlike here in the west where failure is usually rewarded in China and Russia failure can be a terminal end of ones career if enough fingers pointed at such and such being the problem lol I actually owned a Niva in the 90's, a banana yellow thing that was awesome and had been driven from Russia to Holland, then bought by an Englishman who brought it here to the UK, even paid for it to be RHD converted by Lada in Bournemouth. Sadly I was green a bit and expected Land Rover ruggedness from a Soviet machine and often took the old girl for a wade in the sea along the Dorset coast and well, the old Soviet steel didn't quite like that salty water at all and the first moment I knew something was wrong was when going over a speed hump, both chassis rails collapsed turning her from banana yellow to banana shaped and back then welding was heinously expensive, quoted like 4000 pounds and well off she went to the scrappy. Around 2000 I had another Lada, a year old Lada Riva and this thing was pristine, only 10k on the clock and I paid £100 yes £100... then I drove it and found out why, it tore the bejasus out of both shoulders as something was wrong with the seat and steering position and the previous owner just could not wait to get rid of... I did sell it for a considerable amount more than £100 and I went and bought a 1985 MK2 Ford Granada estate 2.8i Ghia X Executive in metallic BRG... what a beauty she was and an absolute pleasure to drive compared to the shoulder ripping Riva :D

    for what it is worth, as just an amateur I felt you are very very knowledgable at things that seem very tiny details!
    I also heard about wearing in piston bores etc, but you've put it more in prospective for me! So thank you! :)

    Why don’t you drill out the oil ways slightly larger to help with oil flow. Niiiiiiiiiiice video, if you can see damage just replace the parts 😊. Yeah, get the block honed by the machine shop.

    There's one thing I don't understand. Isn't the heavier counterweights on the 1700 crankshaft due to heavier pistons in the 1700 engine compared to the 1600?
    So, if you use the setup you are aming for here the counterweights ought to introduce vibrations. But you state the vibrations are likely to be lower. How's that?

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage Рік тому +1

      Good point!
      I actually don't know... I found out that the crank is actually listed for the 1600 and 1700 so it should fit just nice... But if the vibrations will be better or worse is to be seen... But I get your point!
      I might put the old and new on a scale! They look very similar ..

    Det er normalt at glideskoen går i stykker og resterne falder ned i motoren. Men ikke noget man normalvis gør noget ved og det kan være rester fra en gammel glidesko. Har du et nærbillede af den stump du ikke ved hvad er til?

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage Рік тому

      Ah ja... Men det her er bare en helt almindelig møtrik! aner ikke hvor den kom fra... men håber at jeg pludselig mangler en et sted... ellers er det lidt mystisk!
      Jeg har en bekendt der engang havde en lada motor der lavede samme nummer som min med pludselig forsvundet olie tryk... hos ham var det en møtrik der røg i pumpen!

    • @hrfrydendal
      @hrfrydendal Рік тому

      Det kan godt være fra glideskoen, som er et svagt punkt på den motor ;-) Jeg tænker blot at du skal smide den over i rodekassen og skift gerne glideskoen når nu de har motoren adskilt ;-)
