  • Dr Quinn Medicine Woman (1993-1998)
    Cast of the Dr Quinn then and now in 2020.
    The trials and adventures of a female doctor in a wild west town. Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman brought the drama every saturday night during the 90s, and it was a pretty universal hit too, with episodes airing in over a hundred countries for six seasons! And there is talk about a possible reboot, but we’ll get to that. Dr. Quinn tugged on our heartstrings, and brought laughter, anger, excitement and often tears, while remaining a family friendly hit. And much of the credit goes to Dr. Quinn, aka Jane Seymour and the rest of the cast. So what did they get into after leaving the rugged Colorado Springs?
    I’m your host, Nostalgic Nick, here to provide the latest updates on the Dr. Quinn cast. If you enjoy going back to 1867 with us, please give this video a prairie thumbs up, and I prescribe, that you subscribe, to our channel, that way you never miss a premiere. Alright, let’s giddy up.

    I watched Dr. Quinn every Saturday night with my mom. I had a crush on Sully (actor Joe Lando) Thought he was so rugged and handsome. What a wonderful western it was.

    I'm Italian, and this series was BIG in Italy in the 90s. In Italian it's titled "La Signora del West" ("The Lady of the West").
    I remember my dad complaining because "No way the doctor's little sister can be interested in Loren, the age gap is too big!"... while the two actors were married in real life! (with an age gap of almost 23 years)

      I just finished watching the entire six seasons with a couple of friends, several episodes every Friday night. We used the pandemic as an excuse because we're all single (I'm a widow), but we would have done so without the pandemic, too. They still say it saved their lives because the stay-at-home order was incredibly lonely for a lot of us, and we got to be really good friends. We have the two movies to watch next. Then we're going on to _Roots_ (we love Regé-Jean Page) and then _Starman,_ both the movie and the one TV season, and then _West Wing,_ which two of us have never seen before. Oh, we started out watching all five seasons of _Poldark_ before the pandemic. Aidan Turner, yum! :)

The writing and story lines were relevant to modern times and I liked Jane Seymore's and Landos chemistry. I don't watch it all the time, but friends have been interested, so we've gone through all six seasons twice now since I first got them. But if people in general are not aware she is an incredible artist extremely talented and I am very fortunate to have several of her pieces. What a wonderful series and it's too bad that had to all come to an end like most things in life! But there was something wonderful about the INSIGHT of CLOUD-DANCING ( I believe that he just passed away 😢 RIP 🙏 GREAT ACTOR! His wife Snowbird was a lead in Dances with Wolves years later! ) that I always think about! Cheers! I just subscribed! Great job! ❤💯🙏 A'HO

    I preferred Erika Flores portrayal of Colleen as well the plots that her character tackled required much emotion and Erika Flores could pull it off very well. That said, I recall an episode just after Jessica Bowman took on the role of Colleen that required more emotion in my opinion she just didn’t deliver the emotion required for the plot of the episode. The episode I’m referring to happened just after the change between Erika and Jessica, to this day I can’t watch that episode without cringing.
    It took me a long time to warm up to Jessica Bomans portrayal of Colleen.

      I'm sorry, I never did, when the first Colleen quit I think the show wasn't as good, and it didn't help that they changed Colleen in the middle of the series when you were use to Flores playing the part, I kinda think that they should have written Colleen out of the series it would have been better.

      I'll never understand why some people are so unforgiving about this. I never watched Dr. Quinn for Colleen. Did you? I had other favorites. And it seemed to me when watching Jessica's first episode, "The End of the World," that she was new and still trying to work out the character but I had no problem with her performance and was pleasantly surprised. She's a year younger than Erika Flores.

    The writing included some interesting medical info that no other show bothered with. The story lines dealing with rabies and sickle cell anemia were particularly memorable. Michaela always brewed willow bark tea to treat pain. That was a genuine medicine discovered by indigenous people. It contained some elements used in aspirin. I had no idea that Michaela was 11 years older than Sully.

    The show tackled a lot of important issues and taught us history. Some episodes were incredibly difficult to watch. I can't watch when the Cheyenne were slaughtered by Custer, and when Robert E was nearly hung by people in his own town. It's upsetting that we haven't progressed terribly far in 250 years.

    • @wendyscott8425
      @wendyscott8425 3 роки тому +1

      @@hlabhlabhlab I agree. The most popular TV show EVER on Netflix was _Bridgerton,_ with a gorgeous African duke (see my avatar) paired with a lovely young Englishwoman. Noting like this would have been possible in the "old" days. Heck, in the 60s, _Star Trek_ made history when Capt. Kirk was forced to kiss Lt. Uhuru (btw, this episode had Barbara Babcock guesting).
      Things aren't perfect yet, of course, but at least we're starting to face these issues head-on instead of ignoring them. And the fact that DQMW was so popular back in the 90s shows that people all over the world want us all to get along better regardless of ethnicity or any other perceived difference.

    • @hlabhlabhlab
      @hlabhlabhlab 3 роки тому

      @@wendyscott8425 I dislike Brigerton for many reasons, I get it its mainly fantasy and it's not meant to be realistic but ugh...I don't like it. But I know you like it though and that is perfectly fine and valid. Though I do like the idea of doing more so color blind stories that are inspired by history as I get so tired of movies like 12 years a slave. I miss more wholesome yet action packed shows like this but I also wish DQMW had some of the modern shows aesthetic quality. Also there are other ways to portray affluent black people or people of color or interracial relationships (if ya wanna go the more historically accurate route though again doesn't have to be perfect just not Bridgerton level). I do also agree with the whole racial thing as well, that people do on the inside want to get along just they have different ideas about how to get there or how much progress we need.

    • @wendyscott8425
      @wendyscott8425 3 роки тому

      @@hlabhlabhlab Well, to each his own. I never thought _Bridgerton_ was portraying accurate history, but it sure showed a world that had pretty much dealt with the color issue, and I loved that. Plus, Regé-Jean Page played a stunning duke. It was quite popular. Probably still is.
      I've read a bazillion regency romances, and I was happy to learn how to pronounce certain words I had only read. Plus it was just beautiful, and it had no violence to speak of other than the boxing, and there was no blood other than the tiny amount over Simon's eye after his fight with Anthony! Can't say the same for DQMW. They both have their points. No show is going to please everyone.

    • @hlabhlabhlab
      @hlabhlabhlab 3 роки тому

      @@wendyscott8425 I never thought it was either and neither are period pieces like Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility because they are fictional but idk they seemed more on the nose. But I do understand liking it in a more historical fantasy way because they were things to like about it. Also for me it was hard to watch it was very sexual and almost every single popular historical move or tv show out there now is extremely sexualized. I get it some people like it but I find it utterly repulsing (i also think it had something to do with my questioning asexuality and sex repulsion but yeah). I would rather watch like Dr. Mike doing I guess more gory surgeries and etc. than that Duke guy awkwardly sensually lick a spoon..but yeah go teach their own. 😅
