    Great video, but I got a question on what kind of caulking did you use?

    Hello Ben! Thank you for taking the time to put up another video! I like that little tool you had with the very fine thread to wrap the humerus bone. That looks really quick and handy what-do-you-call-it? Also the comment above mine, I believe the man was correct. After you wrapped with cotton batting, then you wrapped with thread, then you look like you put Scotch tape over it.

      Thanks Michael, I didnt get what Barry meant first,,.. yes thats a plastic tape or plastic wrap I use to hold everything together.

    • @ArtofTaxidermy

      And the thread holder is just a piece of wire that I bent to allow my wrap the thread by holding the spool in my hand comfortably.

    What was the clear product you wrapped around the wing bone after wrapping with thread? Scotch tape or cellophane?

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  3 роки тому

      no that was cotton batting, its used as in layers for jackets and coats.. you can buy it from your local fabric store.

    How did you do the eyes? I didn’t see the part of glueing the eyes. Would you just glue the skin around the eyes like you did for the rest? Thank you

      Yes Julio it’s pretty much the same way. That part must have been edited out. I’ll make more detailed videos in the near future.

    What did you use to wrap around the wing bones? The white strip stuff.

      It’s cotton batt... they use it as liner in jackets.

    This series is great. Supper informative. What type of clay do you use? Natural or something like polymer clay? Is it air dry?

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  3 роки тому

      Yup. Just a regular potters clay. Glad you liked the video.

    How long do you wait to paint the feet after injecting with masters blend?

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  11 місяців тому

      As long as it takes for the webs to dry or at least almost dry. .. different room humidity and temp can change the drying time. But usually after a day or two it should be good enough.

      I keep my masters blend in the fridge, so it stays cold and it adds to the setting time .. it sets in 3 minutes.. keeping it cold in the fridge adds a little more time..

    Is it better to mount the bird wet or completely dry?

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  Рік тому +1

      I think Id better say whatever you prefer.. none are wrong, they are just different. Traditionally we have been taught to dry them first then mount them.. but I changed it to my liking. I Like to keep the skin (especially inside) as moist as possible.. and blow drying tends to dry the skin a bit then we have keep spraying it with water.. plus .. mounting first before blow drying, allows me to see a lot more of the placements of the skin and a slot more,, and I find it a bit faster, since some of the feathers will dry out during the mounting process anyway. On larger birds like Turkey for sure dry first,, just because having it wet will be too much weight flopping around on the table.

    You said you normally don't invert the wings? How do you do this normally on flying birds? Leave the primaries to the ulna? Make a cut underneath and sew it up? How can I make it invisible?

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  3 роки тому +1

      Exactly. You can easily make it invisible if you make your cut through the dawn and between the feather tracks. And rinse your bird really good before sewing it up.

      Hi Karin
      Got your message but thought it’s better to reply here so everybody can see. Your English was perfect , 😁 it was my bad .. I meant “down” not Dawn.
      If you make the incision almost in between the ulna and radius it will usually be on the down. Spray the feathers wet and push them aside, yiou will see the down feathers right on the muscle. Make your incision right among down line and then when sewing it back up the other feathers will cover the stitches automatically.

    can you skin a bird and refreeze if you don't degrease?
    thank you!

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  Рік тому +1

      Yes but I wouldn’t leave it for too long. You can vacuum pack it for better result but still don’t go for too long because now it can get grease burn … if you flesh it thoroughly then you can leave for a longer time but still need to be packed very good and air free.
