What kind of nakedness is THE ROOP’s new video “Let’s Get Naked” about?
The new music video from THE ROOP with an intriguing title “Let’s Get Naked” invites all to open their viewpoints wider. Music video’s action is taking place in Pakruojis manor, where ladies and gentlemen gather for an ordinary solemn feast. But the night takes an unforeseen turn once guests taste one dish.
There are situations when titles and self-made images fall, and the truth reveals itself as naked as it is. In the current context of war, societies and state leaders unmask themselves. We see the true leadership of Zelensky and attempts of some countries’ politicians to close their eyes, we see the democratic values of the Ukrainian nation and the imperialistic face of Russia.
At the same time we discover ourselves: how do we behave when scared, having felt the taste of the horrible reality closeby, where do we channel our energy, who do we become, and what principles steer us forward? In this music video we raise a common question - “where does a human being begin and end?”. From constrained convenience to dizzying madness? Is it liberation and return to one’s primal self or is it loss of responsibility - we leave the decision to the listener and the viewer.
Among the cast of the music video there are famous Lithuanian actors Aleksas Kazanavičius, Sonata Visockaitė, many promising young actors, and a Spanish actor and dancer Alberto Velasco. The band was looking for a specific character for a role in “Let’s Get Naked” and Vaidotas stumbled upon a comment by Alberto under one of THE ROOP’s Instagram posts. That’s how unexpectedly this collaboration happened!
“Surprised at first! I'm a big fan of THE ROOP and I didn't think they had seen any of my work as a performer. It was emotional for me. After knowing the story line of the video and my character, I knew that the collaboration was going to be a success and we were going to understand each other as it has happened. The connection was instant!” - Alberto Velasco shared his experience.
The actor confessed he was visiting Lithuania for the first time, and that it was the Northernmost country he had ever been to. Currently Alberto is residing and working in Madrid.
The music video was directed by Jonas Trukanas, who at first was surprised that the band would contact him, because Jonas is making different style cinematography, which would not suit THE ROOP, or at least that’s what he thought.
“This was the first music video I directed altogether. I don’t even know why it took so long to get my feet wet. When the band told me that the video must be different, the crazier the better, and gave me creative freedom and trust - well, I couldn’t refuse,” - rejoiced the director.

You always have the extraordinary ability to make people dance and make people think at the same time ... Reading the description and reading the title, I immediately thought of a story that I always liked a lot: the emperor's new clothes. Maybe you know it too. Once two fraudulent tailors told the king that they were able to produce a magical cloth so extraordinary that only truly worthy and intelligent people could admire its beauty: obviously the cloth did not exist but no one at court had the courage to say it for fear of being considered stupid ... None including the king who asked to have a suit made to show off in a lavish parade in the city. All the subjects cheered the king and praised his elegance even if they did not understand why he was without clothes. In the end only one child had the courage to scream what he thought "The king is naked!" rebelling against the conventions, hypocrisy and conformity of others. If we were all more spontaneous, true and direct like children, it would really be easier to see reality for what it is and unmask the "naked kings". Showing one's thoughts has become a luxury. Show yourself a utopia. Getting naked is a very serious matter: it is easy to take off your clothes and expose the skin but to expose the soul it takes courage, indeed almost madness ... after all we are all looking for someone with whom to feel helpless without having to raise our guard; after all we are all looking for someone who really looks at us beyond appearances to surrend him/her ... but it is easier to use the filters on Instagram or do the dance on Tik Tok. And therefore it is difficult to find the courage to be ourselves (because it means attracting sharks or the criticisms of those who do not know how to rebel against stereotypes) and show us how we are: and therefore we remain automatons, dolls without thoughts and without identity trying to be perfect for this fake society . Thanks again for this piece and I repeat: I would love to have what they are having!
