  • Think Montreal winter is bad? Try summer! From crazy high heat and humidity to pop-up thunder storms that cause torrential downpours and flooding, strong wind gusts that bring widespread power outages and the occasional tornado, and sudden dry spells that lead to out-of-control wildfires that sends smoke across the continent, Montreal's summer weather has it all - and it's kind of unsettling.

    I live in a 17th story apartment overlooking downtown, and Big Thunder will shake our building. I remember that storm in the middle of the night, because everything shook. From our view point we can see storms roll in from all directions. We sit close to the base of the mountain, looking South and West. We've seen some pretty interesting weather over 22 years in this apartment. Or the other great storm where the microburst dropped on Giraud Park on Sherbrooke and snapped century old trees like match sticks, and damaged all the houses on the periphery.

    Thank you, the editing was amazing on this! It captures exactly what Montreal weather can be like, very unpredictable, suddenly changing, and just all around puzzling at times, our location sure makes for interesting extremes every now and then!

    Funny how tourists are amazed on how weather cells operate/form here. We are so used to it, that it doesn't affect us very much. We are just surprised by some of the consequences of them. (1987, 1998)😅😂😂😂

      I think its because Canada is so big it helps the formation of big storms and influence from the gulf of Mexico + the Atlantic ocean causes all kinds of crazy weather. Thats what makes Montreal (and Canada in general) so unique!

    I am planning to visit Montreal next summer, and I hope those summer storms and the wildfires don't alter my wishlist because I have many fun things to do while visiting Montreal thanks to your channel and your videos. I started saving money for next summer's Montreal trip.

      Don’t be mislead by this video, we are having a bad summer weather wise, but this is not the norm, this weather system is affecting the whole north east, i lived here my whole life and its the first summer of this kind,

      Shame on you discover Montreal, i love every video you made except this one, its misleading, we never had a summer this bad and it’s affecting many cities in the north east,

      It's the new normal with climate change. There will be more extremes. More years will wet and stormy, some will be dry and sunny. It will be more unpredictable. @@enzodellacorte1909

    this type of weather is so much better than the ice storm of 98. These summer thunderstorms are fun and enjoyable and warm. The ice storm is evil.

    Thank the smog that's always present in the city for such unstable heat and rain.

    I remember the 1987 flood. I was supposed to go to work cutting grass in the Mont Royal graveyard. I didn't go to work that day.

    This is a bit overly dramatic. As someone who's lived in MTL for 10 years now, I can say in that time we've had maybe 2 severe storms in Summer.

      there is at least one every summer, it doesn’t affect affect the entire island everytime. when it pours you might stay inside and never realise. i go out a lot in the eastern part of the city and i’ve seen aqueducs getting flooded every summer for years

    Even if one is unable to translate 100 millimeters of rain falling down, it's nonetheless a lot of rain in any metric system. (To anyone in Social Media, how much is 100 millimeters of rain in relation to inches?)

    So I'm guessing "Discover Montreal" found that they weren't attracting enough "A"-type personalities to the city? Can't see normal people rushing here to "experience" such weather...

  • @robertlavigne9828
    @robertlavigne9828 21 день тому

    LOL. If you are afraid of weather don't come to Montreal. We have severe storms to hard winter storms and everything in between. There are many cities across NA who have this same type of weather. We live in the east which is humid and hot at times. We have experienced hot weather before. In the 80s a couple of summers were as hot as the one you describe in your video. Montreal gets way less smog days in the summer nowadays compared to the 70s of last century. At least we didn't experience the heat of the 1930s.Stop believing in what they tell you today about record breakers etc. Most of it is false.
