I think the idea behind it being faster isn’t the scallops per se, it is the fact that the scallops really show you when you are pushing down too hard on the strings. Even if all you get from a scalloped neck is that your technique becomes slightly less heavy handed (and it has done exactly that for me) it has a positive step on your playing faster. More refined, smaller movements are all small technique improvements that help with playing faster. That is my 2 cents.
I want to see and hear someone play a scallop fretboard with a slide. Wonder if it is good or bad or the same. Anyone got experience with that? Just curious.
It actually makes you faster because a scalloped neck requires a light touch. And a light touch allows you to be fast. You've always had a light touch from what I can tell so for you the difference isn't noticable. But for heavy handed players, it's an AH HA moment because the scalloped neck forces you to loosen up and that makes you gain speed.
For some reason my skin can't develop cornea and my fingertips are always soft. So i scalloped my first guitar (Ibanez RG) and start learning to play. I also use 008. strings to make it even more easy. Normal fretboards are really strange for me. I scalloped all of my guitars, even the fan fret and it works for me.
Try pressing less hard. I remember when i had an acoustic i pressed too hard so that my tips always had dents but never got callused and they would hurt all the time.....that stopped once i got my electric.....but u already have one so ur fingera should be getring tough.....unless u play for only 1 hr a day
interesting thanks :) im also like you,a relaxed player with soft touch and soft fingers .. i make it easier for me by tuning down, but also go higher in string gauge - this helps me not overbend (10`s at Csharp if you wonder) ... the video nearly convinced me to try scallop, but comments i think more so!
It's kinda hard to tell how many hours i actually play because i practice in front of my PC while watching something. But it's something between 3 and until the sun rise hours per day,. Five days a week. Depending on the series.
Can you have heavy guage strings with a scalloped neck, i play blues and like .13- .60 guage, does scalloping weaken the neck, thanks for the video.......Scott 🎸👍.
But is it harder to play chords in tune because if you press down slightly too hard the note can go sharp. Of course this happens with unscalloped guitars too..
Claus - how much of your right hand should touch the strings as you pick? I anchor and mute with the edge of my hand like you recommend, but I also notice that the pad below my thumb (other side of the hand) is also touching the strings while picking. Is this okay or will it inhibit my playing?
Hi Claus! Im very interested in tone and was wondering about your comments on the neck pickup.. Im looking for more natural grit in my tone with absolute minimal distotion (ill usually overdrive the amp) ive contemplated everything from different strings to pickups everything in between and how its all setup.. Do you have any ideas?
Hi Don Thank you for your comment. I do not quite understand what you are after. Pickups makes the most difference when it comes to distortion from the guitar itself, without external pedals or amp settings. Maybe you need to try some hotter pickups?
Not entirely sure either, i can hear it in my head and know im getting closer wich is good, i also get alot of help from instructers like you, thank you! As for pickups im going in that direction and im excited to hear the results

Certain guy from Sweden also has great vibrato and control
Yes been playing scalloped for years.i play better with them.lighter touch required.especially when playing chords.👍..

Also thicker gauge like .9 or .10 even might help
interesting thanks :)

For me it's perfectly fine and feels really good to have it my way.
Can you refret a scalloped fret guitar???

Yes you can. It doesn't weaken the neck to any degree that influences the string gauge.
@@guitarmastery thanks for the response, i have been wanting to do this for a long time, im going for it 🎸👍.
