This was outstanding Ross, I loved every second of it. I wish I had a dollar for every time I went to lift a redfin in and it got off. LOL I did notice you done it again with the last fish. Haha 😂😂 As my dad says, you needed to "Reopen your closing scene". Haha
That's great! I'm glad you have got some benefit from the videos. I have just discovered another killer rig, and I'll make a video of it soon. Stay tuned!!!!
Water quality is very good at the moment, Sam. A lot of the fish I filleted had small reddies in their stomachs, so cast and retrieve seems to be the best option at present.
Thank you. I have been fishing the narrows for nearly 30 years, so I was able to target areas where I have previously caught redfin at this time of year, and luckily they were in those spots again.
The plastic was a Berkley dropshot minnow in perch pattern, very effective but unfortunately no longer being produced. The virus is unknown, it results in blistered sores on the skin, and seems to come and go in the lake. At times it affects more than 50% of the total catch.
Hi Michale, they are Berkley drop shot minnows, but sadly like all good things I think they have been discontinued. If you can find them they come in 2" and 3" models. They are the best redfin imitation I have found. I have a few packs from trolling through ebay, but they are now very hard to find.
Hi Dan, I use a 3-way swivel to attach the soft plastic above the blade. I also use 15 pound mono as the stiffness helps to keep the lines from twisting together.
It's been affecting the redfin in Lake Hume since the summer, they are like blistered sores. When I was out back in March, more than 50% of the fish were affected. Perhaps since the water temp has dropped the virus seems to be disappearing.
Redfin 101 - much appreciated Roscoe. Great time of year to enjoy the sunshine. Tell me, what's the story with redfin bustups? Is there a set time of year you see more of them? We've had a few mornings where the bust ups were amazing for finding them, but I haven't figured out why or when they seem to do it? Always nice to see your stuff mate, like getting out myself. Cheers PP
Thanks mate. When small reddies are churning the surface, it's often because they have been chased up by bigger redfin. A good time to get a soft plastic or blade in amongst them. Can be lots of fun.
@@FishtalkVideo Ha ha. That's quite funny, I thought they might be feeding on something, not being fed on by something! 🙂 My young bloke and I enjoy putting your reddie stuff into practise. Lots of fun. Cheers PP

Woops....you're right, some people are slow learners, and I'm one of them! Thanks for watching mate, I appreciate your input.
@@FishtalkVideo hahaha that is totally something that I would do. 🤣🤣🤣
Have fond memories of jagging for Reddies in the Hume, many years ago!
Yes, there was a time when 4 pound reddies were common captures in the lake.
Awesome.....I've never caught a redfin.....I,m enjoying the vids......Many thx

Thanks mate. They are fun to catch, and good tucker too.
Ever since I seen you use that rig that's my go too for reddies on the Hume now I love it just as much as the reddies do 🤙😎🤙

I was out, same time same day. Went in at Huon, didn’t do nearly as well as you did.
Great video, as usual.

Loved your coverage of lake Hume, can I ask what was that plastic you were using. Also what is that virus you are talking about? Thanks Graham

You made that look easy ... what time do we come for dinner? 😂
You guys are always welcome.😀
Great session ross were do you find those plastics mate good to see the virus not therre

@@FishtalkVideo yep thought so ross havnt seen them for a while
Great video, love your work. I used to fish Lake Hume a lot back in the day. With your rig is the soft plastic just on a hook or a jig head?
Thanks for the feedback. The soft plastic is on a long shanked worm hook, and the gape is in-line, not offset.
Good session there mate.
Interested to know how you rig up both the lures, do you use a certain swivel to connect both?
Cheers mate
Hi Dan, I use a 3-way swivel to attach the soft plastic above the blade. I also use 15 pound mono as the stiffness helps to keep the lines from twisting together.
And how are the narrows fishing lately
Hi Michael, this was the first time I've been out for 2 months, as I have been in NZ since March. Pretty happy with my first outing though!!!
What's this virus that you're talking about?
