5:16 Yup...it's boiled corn. Lol! Idk why that's the highlight of the video, but it is! Thank you for this field ration test. I can't wait to try it during the upcoming second Civil War!
I've been a subscriber to this channel for over four years and I have no idea why this channel doesn't have way more subscribers than it does....SMH... And shout-out to WILL for always making interesting content. Love you guys👍🤘💯
I like to cut up some salted meat, boil it till soft and then add hominy and corn meal before boiling a little longer, the resulting stew is plain, but very filling and immensely enjoyable on a cold morning.
@@CivilWarDigitalDigest I was wondering if the wording was intentional. I knew grits were basically the same thing but I didn't realize until your videos that Union soldiers were eating grits/hominy. Very interesting and now I'm going to have to try this in the backyard!!!
Will, you made grits. Good job. Salt and butter are my favorite additions (and cheese if you have it.) Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your channel. I wish you could produce more Confederate themed programs. Perhaps it would show people that we were not the barbarians some think.
Great video! Hominy is underrepresented in a lot of fields across the country!

'Yep, it's boiled corn' . . another great video chaps love it (added to the 'menu' and looking forward to seeing what the leftovers make!)
I love me some grits, butter is another good addition to the hominy.
We intentionally left the word grits out of the episode because of the way it is presented in the original cook book. Right you are!
Mickey Holding Here I am thinking, that looks just like grits.

Hi! We know we made grits :). We just kept all the discussion to the recipe we had. It didn’t mention the well known name. Thanks!
I'd have watched a one hour clip quite happily, as you'd have mentioned all sorts of stuff whilst cooking.
And might be bored you’d have been! LOL.
Let's get that out on a tray
Nice
Fried grits is next, right?
I love Grits, left over grits fried in butter is even better, it is a shame that I seldom have left over Grits LOL
That is called grits in the south.
That is true.
