    Just recently found your channel and it is awesome. I use NINA exclusively (1.11) and love the automation available in the sequencer and now all these plug ins. Thank you so much for your input and explanations (love the polar alignment video). Love the name PATRIOT Astro- best country in the world.

    Nice video. NINA is really getting to be "the one" to use. Don't forget that it's also possible to send SMS via email. Thanks for posting.

    Hey Chad thanks for all the help. You convinced me to start using the new sequencer and it's working out great. One question though. Where in a real sequence do you drop in wait for time span. Not sure where to put it. Cuiv gave you a great shout out in his latest video. Thanks for the help and for the great videos!

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  3 роки тому

      You can put it anywhere you need to put it. I actually rarely ever need it at all. Can you give me an example of when you want to use one? Maybe I can better help if i understand the scenario.

    • @davidharutunian3256
      @davidharutunian3256 3 роки тому +1

      Hey Chad thanks for taking the time to get back to me. I put the push to failure function in the trigger and was wondering where the best place was to add time to span where I would get a notification of something going wrong with the sequence during the night. It's getting a little chilly down here in Arizona in the high desert to be sitting out here with the rig. Again thanks so much for all your videos helping out all us aspiring astrophotographers

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  3 роки тому

      @@davidharutunian3256 I dont think you really need to add a wait instruction. If something fails, it will notify you based on your groundstation command, then you will need to address it. If you add a wait, say in a loop of images, you will have to wait every time that instruction is called every item it is looped. There isn't really a way to link a failure to a wait time. The only exception to this rule is if you have an ASCOM Safety Monitor Device, but that would normally not be for failures but instead clouds or rain.

    I use IFTTT at the end of the sequence to turn off the power to the scope, camera, and computer... Then use the computer shutdown plug in to gracefully close windows.
    I just need and automated lens cap.

      @@PatriotAstro Thanks for all you contribute to this crazy hobby. Have you ever used to notify when meridian flip is complete? This would be handy.

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  3 роки тому +1

      @@mdaugher1811 Yes and No. :) You have 2 methods with GroundStation: 1. On Failure, and 2. Send Message. If you are using the Failure Trigger, you will get a message if there was a failure. As that relates to a Meridian Flip, it could just be a "Slew Failure" or something like that - the real reason for the Flip failing (but it may not state specifically that it was a meridian flip failure). Since the Meridian Flip itself is a Trigger, you can't really insert a Send Message instruction after it. Keep watching and updating NINA and the GroundStation plugin though, they are both getting new functionality added quite frequently, even since this video was published.

    Great video! Just FYI, I added Fail to Pushover as a global trigger and the last thing in my sequence was a filter change which I made fail intentionally. There was no instruction after that but the trigger still sent me a message. I'm not sure if this is an update to NINA or not (2.0 BETA010) Also, it looks like IFTTT is giving 5 applets now for the free account.

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  3 роки тому

      There had been some discussion about how and when triggers would be processed, so maybe this has made it into the code towards the end of the nightly‘s or into the beta. Good catch!

    Thanks for the great video. Is it possible to get any detailed information about the instructions or trigger just executed? Like I would like to send me hfr, rms, stars etc, after each image captured, and maybe notify me when there is refocus triggered, and the reason for the triggering.

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  3 роки тому +1

      This plugin only reports on failures/errors, or with a custom message, but not with that information. The Lightbucket plugin may be better suited for some of this, especially as it relates to images specifically. Take a look at that plugin (and my video on the topic). You may want to reach out to the developer of the plugin with suggestions. I know that some of what you mentioned is there, or is possible, and may already be in development.

      Should be. I just checked and saw it in Beta2.0-44 and then again after upgrading to Beta2.0-45. Make sure you are up-to-date and looking at Plugins > Available (and not installed).

      Thanks for the reply. It wasn’t available on 2.10, but I updated to 2.45 today and it was there with several others. Thanks again and if you know of a home weather station that will communicate with NINA and put my weather data into the FITS header that would be great. I already use the weather data from open weather map that populates the FITS. Thanks again! Rex

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  3 роки тому

      Been staring at this comment for a while… :-) Trying to figure out how to best address it for everyone. What’s likely, is that I’ll do a quick update video on the plug-in since several things have changed. I covered it very very early on right after it’s release, and it could do with an update. It may take a little bit for me to get it done, but I will. I don’t have any feedback yet, because I haven’t done the telegram integration, it looks pretty straightforward, but those are famous last words. I’ll try to get something out soon.

    Does the computer running Nina and the sequence need to be connected to the internet for these notifications to work? Sorry if stupid question

    Can ground station be used to send a weather alert to a cell phone where the alarm will alert me to bring in my rig so it doesn’t get soaked?

    • @PatriotAstro
      @PatriotAstro  3 роки тому

      Not sure that will help you. I think you would be better served by an external weather app on your computer or phone that can issue rain/weather warnings. If you wanted to automate stuff in NINA based on weather issues, you could possibly use an ASCOM integrated safety monitor that had weather sensors attached - but that would automate something like a dome enclosure, etc.
