A little early Christmas is exactly what we need this year. At the moment Tome Topple is in play so I'm focused on "Little Women" (a surprisingly Christmas-y book, actually), but after that, Charles Dickens Christmas stories are next.

Everyone should put up their trees at a time that is right for them, and not be concerned about others opinions or of being shamed for doing it early, as I've seen on social media :/ ...I've bought myself a mini rainbow tree to join my other rainbow tree for this year, and I had a halloween tree this year too. we need to snatch those pockets of joy no matter what form they come in. as a librarian (and still working, providing an on-request service during covid times, for context I'm at a private establishment with a small low budget library) I get the warm fuzzies from when you know you got the right book to the right person, or am able to give the exact book they have asked for. makes my job a little bit better :)
I know you have mentioned it before...but where did you get that polar bear necklace? My son has fallen in love with His Dark Materials. I think he may need a iorek of his very own.

The Swiss Family Robinson is my favorite book. I had a Children's Illustrated edition when I was very young, then a chapter book and now as an adult I love rereading the original.
The question about trendy books was mine! What I meant is that I feel like you often read and show books that are not what everybody else is showing. I follow quite a few booktubers and I sometimes feel that all of them are talking about the same books time and again. I guess seeking out small presses is a good tip, thank you! xx

Jen, I really loved your thoughts about the new HDM adaptation and I completely agree! It's amazing how similar our experience with the series has been... reading it first when we were 13, writing our thesis/dissertation on it, etc. BTW your little video with Penguin about visiting Oxford inspired me to go there when I was visiting my friend in England last year. A wonderful little pilgrimage. 🥰
Christmas joy! The decs are up & the music playing in our house. ❤🎄 I am quite sad about my increasing lack of concentration for reading. Social media & internet definitely affects that, I think. I don't seem to ever be able to put my phone away for very long though, ha, ergh. :/
We're putting up our tree on Saturday! 🎄🎅🎁 Bloom and Wild are great. I've enjoyed using them while I've not been able to see my mam over lockdown. Your tree is super cute!
Filming in the dark has become my new favourite thing, I used to rush to film in daylight for 'good lighting' but I actually prefer the cozy vibes so much more
Yes! The loss of the version of the book which is in your head, the world you've inhabited with total abandon and you can nearly smell it it's so real. THAT loss is so real and so heartbreaking. I get very dramatic about it. Want to write something about "effing the ineffable"... Argh!

Can you recommend a book for a girl who is 9yrs old, but struggles with reading yet doesn't want a picture book ("a little kid's book")? I was thinking the Penderwick series, but I'm not sure. Also, and more relevant to the video, this was a very warm and soothing video. Thanks!

Flush (the dog-biography by Virginia Woolf) is delightful, I really recommend it :) Granted I've only read two of her other books and some essays but I felt like Flush was unlike her other books in style or tone
I haven’t even finished watching but I realised that you have A Little White Horse on the shelf behind you, which was one of my absolute favourites as a child. Just coming back to this comment as I’ve started reading it. The beginning really bugged me; it felt overwritten and like it was trying way too hard. I’m on page 50 now, though, and it’s either calmed down or I’ve got used to it. Either way, I’m really enjoying it now x
Hi Jen love your tree 💕 I just wanted to ask if you had at all come across the Ruth Galloway books from ‘Elly Griffiths’ they are a series of books about a forensic archeologist and gets involved in murders around Norfolk I have read the first couple and can’t decide if I’m involved or not . . . . there are quite a few in the series. . . .I know how much you loved the Freida Klein series and just wondered if you had heard of them and what you thought . . .. lots of love ❤️
In His Dark Materials series, I'm finding it a bit odd how Mary is coded Asian, but there is barely any actual Asian characters :( Why do one not the other? It is an odd insert by the series writers and is upsetting my partner who is Asian. I hope they do better later on.
