I hated this. Edmund and Dimitri had such a great relationship, and Edmund and Maria were so wonderful together. The writers shouldn't have ruined it with this.
Um, excuse me Edmund, SAINT MARIA slept with Dimitri too!!!! Blame her just as much, and even more. She took vows and promised faithfulness. This is not all Dimitri's fault!
agreed. I hate that everyone ripped on just Dimitri (Save for Erica, who rightfully condemned Maria, too). Maria was an eager participant in hiding the news and being deceitful. She was not a pure and innocent angel
Definitely an intense fight...but I do dislike that Maria was treated like a martyr who was entirely innocent. She and Dimitri both broke their respective partners' hearts.
cajayson8301: The writers fed us the lies that Maria was so saintly. In fact, she did nothing but hurt Edmund. Also, Edmund became a domestic bore (to me) when he wed Maria. He and Brooke were more fun and had more exciting storylines.
That’s true! The acting was good and the storyline was good! I think we all disliked that it ruined the bond between Dimitri and Edmund that was built over several years. I don’t think it was within his character limits to do something like that to his brother.
unicojodi true I know people hated that it broke the bond, but that’s what made it a good story. We wouldn’t haven’t cared otherwise. It was interesting because there was a real brotherly chemistry between the actors and bond between the characters. And idk I felt that the bond between Maria and Dimitri made their actions plausible. They always leaned on each other for emotional support, Erica certainly always hated Dimitri taking Maria’s side. I think them turning to one another in a moment of such brokenness was in the range of both of their characters. Plus Dimitri could sometimes be questionable morally, which made him an interesting character. I just feel like this story got hate that it didn’t deserve, this was the best of AMC in the latter half of the 90s.
@@andrewwikins4999 Great points! Yes, the writers brought Maria and Dimitri close especially as she leaned on him to help plan the escape out of the country with baby Sam. Sooooo, yes could we reach and believe that because Dimitri was drinking and devastated over Erica (yet again) that he turned to Maria in that moment. It was just hard as a super fan of Dimitri’s character to see him revert to old immoral ways and do that to his brother. His character had come so far and then this- I hated the “bad Dimitri” that all of this brought on; although the intention was to show how deeply he was hurt from losing Erica.
unicojodi True it was tough to watch and as a fan of Dimitri myself I felt like everyone was so hard on him, everybody got a break except him, which I think drove him deeper into his darker side. It was great to watch until the very end with the crystal ball drama when they made him some type of arch villain (that was ridiculous lol). But I think it was very human, we often make progress encounter certain situations that cause us to regress, especially after our breaking point. Ultimately learn new lessons, heal and progress again. It was interesting journey IMO with Dimitri in 97....just wish they had brought him back into contact with Erica. Think they missed the opportunity of having a Erica/Dimitri/Brooke/Jack quad....that would have been dope lol
Edmund was right about Maria getting news to Dimitri in a timely manner. But Edmund was also wrong about keeping this a secret from Erica. And he must have forgotten how he felt with not knowing that Hugo was his real father. I'm glad Erica went ballistic. And Dimitri shouldn't have been surprised when Erica didn't forgive him right away. He took his time forgiving her. Erica couldn't stand Maria. That was the ultimate betrayal. All the things Maria accused Erica of,this was the lowest of the low.
Theresa Doyle: I stopped watching AMC when they broke up Edmund and Brooke. Sod did Erica take the baby thinking she may have been her step mom? I never really understood the storyline. You're absolutely right about Edmund. His parentage was so important to him that, while he loved Brooke, he wouldn't lie in court to say that Brooke's baby was his. Writers sure have a habit of being inconsistent.
@@tammyramey Erica took the baby because she heard Dimitri say that it might be better that the baby had died. They thought the baby had drowned in Willow Lake when Erica’s car skidded off the road on the way to the hospital. Erica wasn’t the cruel, callous person so many made her out to be. When she heard what Dimitri said (she was actually bringing the baby back to Maria), her heart wouldn’t allow the child to grow up in an environment where she wasn’t completely and totally loved. She believed that the baby was better off with her. Erica had just suffered a miscarriage and learned that her husband had cheated on her, so she wasn’t in her right mind. A sane Erica would never keep a mother from her child. She knew that pain.
I was thinking..... Why does Edmund think Erica wouldn't be able to keep the secret? She kept the secret about Anton being Dimitri's son, even when they weren't together. That never made sense to me.
Yes! Everyone wanted to blast Erica, but most of it could have been avoided if they had just told her. Miscarrying a baby that you had been longing for for years, learning that your husband cheated and was believed to be the father of the baby Maria was carrying, that’s enough to send anyone over the edge. I felt so bad for Erica during this time. And she stepped up and took her punishment. She didn’t ask for a get out of jail free card.
Like others here, i hated this storyline. I actually turned AMC off the episode they showed Maria and Dimitri in bed. It was just so gross to me at the time. I was a teenager then. I had a VCR and taped the episodes since they aired during school. I didn't watch AMC again till a few years later. But the acting is good.
I wanted to throw up watching them in bed. It really made me sick. And I didn't like Maria from the very existence on the show. She always claimed as Erica put it "a good Catholic girl". She slept with Del and Edmund out of wedlock and Dimitri while married to Edmund. So Saint She ain't.

I so strongly agree....who was even the headwriter at this time?

Well they did re bond as brothers …eventually
RIP Edmund Grey (John Callahan). He died yesterday.

@@cajayson8301 Then, when she came back and gained her memory, she cheated again on Edmund with Zach. Maria ultimately was just no good.
It hurts him because don't forget Dimitri was also his brother
I hope Edmund was as mad at his cheating wife as he was at his brother. Maria could have said NO!
This is true, but I like the way he forgave Dhmitri and Maria.
@@brianvivickers3712 Well good for Edmund, but Maria ended up cheating again. Basically, a cheater is a cheater.

I couldn’t stand Maria. Her and Erica sparing were some of my favorite scenes. I’m hoping they’ll both be in the reboot.
The only good thing about this storyline was Dimitri's facial hair!
Lol 😂
Why did so many people dislike this storyline? It was so compelling, the acting was great. What was there to dislike ?
