    Thanks so much. Was stumped trying to set a simple 1 spot focus and had multiple focus spots jumping around. I needed a sane voice to explain where the button I should be pressing was, and a video showing it was near the lens, not the AE-AF lock button, before I lost the plot altogether. ( I had read the manual :( )Upgrading from a very comfortable d200 is more stressful than i imagined! Thanks again!

    However, I have a question on my D7200 AFC with 9 focus points setup. At that setting, it is still showing 1 focus point on my camera. It seems there is something wrong with my setting or camera. Can you please help?

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 років тому

      You are correct, with the camera on AFC and 9 AF points, only 1 focus point will show in the viewfinder. If you hold the AF button (on the left at the bottom of the lens) while looking through the viewfinder, the 9 AF points will show. You can now use the selector dial on the rear of the camera to move them around the frame. This will apply to 9 and 21 AF points. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.

    hello sir can you please share some info on live view exposure prview on D7200 which happens to be not working properly on my new D7200.
    thank you.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  5 років тому

      Hi the live view should show if the image is correctly exposed as it comes straight from the sensor to the screen. I would suggest putting the camera in manual mode and adjusting the aperture up and down. The live view should adjust in brightness as you do. If the camera is in auto or any of the priority modes it is making the adjustments itself and will not show any significant difference on the screen. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  6 років тому +1

      Hi Ravi, the first thing I would check is that the joystick is not locked. It has a lever on the outside of it with the letter 'L' if it is on the 'L' the joystick will not move the focusing square. If this does not work, let me know and I will see if there is an option in the menu for you. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  9 років тому +1

      +Marlon Llaneta It sounds like you may have locked the multi selector on the back of the camera. There is a dot and an 'L' on the selector, if it is on 'L' it is locked and will prevent you from using it. Move the small lever at the bottom of the Multi Selector to the right and try again. Hopefully this works.

    Would you specify the focus point setting for taking video of a speech ( interview ) and for slightly a moving subject for d7200

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 років тому

      Hi Anupam, for video work I would suggest using the single point to focus on your subject but then putting the camera into manual focus. This will prevent the camera constantly trying to refocus and ruining the look of the video. With moving subjects, for stills photography I would use the AF-C on 9 or 21 points to allow tracking of the movement. Good luck, have fun, Dave.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 років тому

      Hi Joy, personally I would use AF-S with either a single point or a group of 9 AF points. That would allow you to choose an area to focus on and have it remain focused for the multiple shots. Thanks for watching, have fun, Dave.

    Hi Dave, Watching this again for a second time and what you show is very clear and helpful. Have a question though; Was using a D200 which when back focus is enabled I could still allow the half shutter to also focus is used. On the D7100 when I allowed the rear button to focus the shutter stops. Not a big deal to me but for my wife it is. Curious if you know if D7100 will enable both at same time?
    Your whole series on the D7xxx series was great.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 років тому +1

      Really good question. I have had both the D200 and the D7100 and never noticed that, possibly I have only ever used one or the other and not tried both at the same time. There are a number of options in the Custom Settings Menu for the AF/AL button, one of them may allow both buttons to be used. It may also change depending on the focusing type selected i.e. AF-S or AF-C. I will get both cameras out and see if I can find a definite answer for you. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.

    • @saipradeepdandem
      @saipradeepdandem 7 років тому +1

      Hi, I own D7200 and i hope there is not much difference between D7100 and D7200. In D7200 to enable both the back button and shutter, below is the path to the setting:
      Menu -> Custom Setting Menu (pencil icon) -> a Autofocus -> a4 AF activation -> choose 'Shutter/AF-ON' option
      For only the back button focus choose "AF-ON only" option.
      I hope this will help. :)

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 років тому +1

      Hi Asa, my first thought is that the Focus lock is on, it is the switch around the multi selector with an 'L' and a dot. If it is on 'L' the focus point will be locked. If not that I would suggest resetting the Custom Settings. This will return them to their default settings. I hope this helps, good luck, Dave.

      It is hard to tell without having the camera to see but here is how to change the focusing modes. Make sure that the focus mode switch, next to the lens, bottom left, is on AF. Next push and hold the AF mode button. Now while holding the button turn the main function dial with your thumb. Look at the LCD screen on the top of the camera, it should change from showing AF-S to AF-C. You will not see any change through the viewfinder, it will still show a single focus point. Good luck, Dave.

      Hello again, thank you for your answer.
      I did what you said and on the screen on the top there is AF-C.
      Maybe I use it wrong? I usually try to focus one object and move it away from the lens and to the lens but the focus doesn't work. Is that wrong?
      I'm a newbie, so I'm sorry for any facepalm :D

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 років тому

      It is no problem. There is a possibility that your AF-C is set on 'Release' this allows the camera to shoot even if the focus is out. Go to your 'Custom Settings' menu, the pencil icon. a1 is AF-C Priority Selection, make sure this is set to 'Focus' and not 'Release'. This will only allow the shutter to fire when your subject is in focus. Let me know how you get on, Dave.

      Hi, you will need to go to the 'Custom Settings' menu, it has the pencil icon. Once there scroll down to d1, there you can set the beep to be on/off and adjust the volume and pitch. I hope this helps, thank you for watching, Dave.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 років тому

      No problem at all. The focus beep will only work in AF-S as the sound indicates that the focus is locked on, the focus does not lock in AF-C as the camera is continually focusing. Dave.

    As far as I know, AF S doesn't mean single auto foucus point, but single auto focus servo, The camera focuses, and locks until you press (or release) the shutter button. At least, that's how it works on my D90.
    Could you tell anything about the ability to aufocus a D7200 in dim light, compared to a D750?

  • @pietervandenberghe
    @pietervandenberghe 8 років тому +9

    I'm sorry, but you're wrong. AFS does not mean single point! It means the camera will focus once and keep that focus locked until you release focus, or take your shot. In AFS, you can still chose Auto, in which multiple focus points are used.
    AFS/C/A decide HOW OFTEN the camera locks focus; s/9/21/51/3D/auto decide WHERE it does.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  8 років тому +2

      You are correct, I should have said autofocus single servo and yes you can select 9/21/51 or 3D options. Thank you for commenting.

      What does "servo" stand for? That term is confusing to me. Great video!

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 років тому +1

      Servo is short for servomechanism which is usually found in electrical devices for moving a part or function.

      What does AFA mean in regard to how often the camera focuses? If AFC (continuous)means that it continually focuses, then how often does focusing occur when the camera is set to AFA(automatic)?

    so if I want to shoot a footballer running with the ball,I choose afc 51 point? since the subject move all over the place and I want to make sure whole area is sharp.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  8 років тому

      +jethro_my I would use AFC in either the 9 or 21 point group, the camera wil then focus on the player you are tracking rather than looking for focus over the entire frame.

    Hey! I photograph birds. I would like to know which clusters do I use for panning birds. I shoot on continuous and when I'm following the bird sometimes the camera doesn't take any photos when pressed down the shutter button. Do you know why this is happening? I want to know which focusing clusters do I use besides 3D. Remember I like to follow the bird when it's in flight.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 років тому

      Birds in flight is not a subject I shoot often but I would probably set the focus mode to AF-C and use a AF cluster of 9 or 21 points, depending on how large the birds are in the viewfinder. 3D tracking tends to work best when the subject stands out from the background well. As for the camera not shooting when you press the shutter you may have the AF-C priority set to 'Focus' this will only shoot if the image is in focus. You can change this to 'Release' in your 'Custom Settings' Menu (Pencil Icon). a1 in this menu is AF-C Priority Selection. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  8 років тому +1

      Hi Juan, I would use the AF-C setting for continuous focus, allowing you to track the players. Using the d9 or d21 focus points will help to give you good coverage in the viewfinder, A lot of sports photographers also use the back focus button to lock focus allowing the shutter button to be use just for firing the shutter. Good luck, have fun.

    How to adjust AF in Liveview

      @ThePhotoShow  5 років тому

      In Live Mode you can adjust the AF point using the control pad on the rear of the camera or adjust the AF type by holding in the AF mode button(next to the lens) then moving the main command dial. The AF type will be shown at the top of the screen. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.

      The mode you use will really depend on what you are photographing, single point would be good for portraits, wide good for landscapes and tracking for moving subjects.

      Hi Paul, glad it took you over a week to reply, I know it must have been a struggle. The problem is that you neither have the class or intelligence to upset me. It's not me that is looking bad, I'm guessing that unless you are under 15 years old this is an odd way to get your entertainment. You have no idea where I'm from or which level I would go down to. I'm sure you don't get too many replies and it must be nice for you to interact with a human for a change. I love this kind of stuff, I usually screen shot them and post them on twitter. If you want to look up the story of the Billy goats Gruff you will see who won in the end. You have a UA-cam channel, why not create something and post it, trust me you'll feel better about yourself.
