The choke is used for many reasons like compensating the cable capacitance, to increase the dv/dt etc.., in simple words it avoids the voltage spike incase of longer cable length for example more than 300 meters in ACS800-01,04 drives, the longer cable would have higher cable capacitance and the high frequency could cause voltage reflection at motor terminals due to the cable capacitance and inductance which could damage the motor insulation, also other way around for the motors with lower cable length also sometimes need choke to limit the voltage rise time to avoid damaging windings based on motor manufacturer specification, voltage rise time above 0.3 micro second would be ok for any form wound motors.

To avoid DC overvoltage the choppers are used, while decelerating the motor speed with very shorter ramp down time or while the load is driving the motor more than the set speed (synchronous speed) then the DC bus voltage would increase and the voltage would reach the over voltage fault limit or it may damage the component so brake chopper is used with the brake resistor to dissipate the extra DC energy as heat to maintain the DC voltage within the fault limit.

We can use 12 pulse bridge rectifier for reduction total harmonic distortion...we have maintained phase angle 30 degree for harmonic reduction...so we have to use converter transformer( converter duty transformer) it have one primary winding and two secondary windings...this is one of the important method for maintain harmonic
If you take ABB VFD it has DTC Direct Torque Control which will take care of the torque demand of the application. or any VFD does produce the torque using the motor slip (load angle) margin by adjusting the stator voltage and frequency.
