That chick predicted "Painting with John." How fucking cool! She got her wish, and we are happy for it.

Boy, all it takes are a few minutes of well considered words from a person, and you can become a fan for life. So thankful for this video. Thanks for posting.

The commentary of this show is also pure gold. Takes it to another level. Highly recommend it if you can get the DVD or have a sub to Criterion Channel.

i let a coworker, who was a bigtime bass fisherman borrow this series, alluding to it being full of helpful fishing tips. He pitched it on my desk the next day sayin, didn't see one damn bass boat, one damn bass... but i couldn't stop watchin all the mayhem. So later on in the day i would sing that little intro to him... "fishin with john" first few times irritated the hell out of him, just tore him up. After a few days of jackin with him with it, it finally melded into a kind of cult reply, and would pull that on each other for weeks to months after that as an inside joke. leaving those around us in the workplace wondering WTF. -gilpin 11-24-15

At the same time when John Lurie's biggest success was "8 Mile". The movie was directed by the late Curtis Hanson and starring Eminem, Kim Basinger, Brittany Murphy and Mekhi Phifer. From my point of view, "8 Mile" was biggest success.

Yeah was that not weird or what. His strange attitude and tom was all angry that it was hot and that he was there. I actually got rid of all my tom waited records like I had all of them, boom gone.

@@JSTNtheWZRD Clearly you'd never listened to them anyway, if you didn't already know what he was like. I thought it was hilarious and just loved him more. He's a hermit, he doesn't even like touring. Of course he's going to be miserable on a boat in the boonies. Wasn't that kinda the idea?

Heard John Lurie on the radio promotion these screenings in Williamsburg. An obvious no-brainer because John Lurie being a "hipster" himself back in the late 70s. Saw him in top form with The Lounge Lizards one New Year's Eve. Beautiful and bizarre it was.
Sadly, due to medical issues, John had to give up music and has concentrated on his questionable painting career.
