Boy, all it takes are a few minutes of well considered words from a person, and you can become a fan for life. So thankful for this video. Thanks for posting.
The commentary of this show is also pure gold. Takes it to another level. Highly recommend it if you can get the DVD or have a sub to Criterion Channel.
thanks for posting this and for all concerned. i let a coworker, who was a bigtime bass fisherman borrow this series, alluding to it being full of helpful fishing tips. He pitched it on my desk the next day sayin, didn't see one damn bass boat, one damn bass... but i couldn't stop watchin all the mayhem. So later on in the day i would sing that little intro to him... "fishin with john" first few times irritated the hell out of him, just tore him up. After a few days of jackin with him with it, it finally melded into a kind of cult reply, and would pull that on each other for weeks to months after that as an inside joke. leaving those around us in the workplace wondering WTF. -gilpin 11-24-15
How wonderful is this? How great to see john up and about and enjoying life. Hey instead of producing another taylor swift album, produce five more "Fishing With John" films!
At the same time when John Lurie's biggest success was "8 Mile". The movie was directed by the late Curtis Hanson and starring Eminem, Kim Basinger, Brittany Murphy and Mekhi Phifer. From my point of view, "8 Mile" was biggest success.
Yeah was that not weird or what. His strange attitude and tom was all angry that it was hot and that he was there. I actually got rid of all my tom waited records like I had all of them, boom gone.
@@JSTNtheWZRD Clearly you'd never listened to them anyway, if you didn't already know what he was like. I thought it was hilarious and just loved him more. He's a hermit, he doesn't even like touring. Of course he's going to be miserable on a boat in the boonies. Wasn't that kinda the idea?
Lime disease and the first fishing with John was off of Montauk near where they say it was created. On that weird island, and then in the city of lyme I heard this on a conspiracy show five years ago, I dunno
How do i watch painting with John without cable. Can't afford it. But if I got cable would only watch that, so I dunno any suggestions? Is it still on?
Heard John Lurie on the radio promotion these screenings in Williamsburg. An obvious no-brainer because John Lurie being a "hipster" himself back in the late 70s. Saw him in top form with The Lounge Lizards one New Year's Eve. Beautiful and bizarre it was. Sadly, due to medical issues, John had to give up music and has concentrated on his questionable painting career.
That chick predicted "Painting with John." How fucking cool! She got her wish, and we are happy for it.

Thank you for posting this. It's so nice to see John laugh and joking. I hope he does a season 2 of Fishing with John
Painting with john! what a wonderful sequel!!
26:11 The audience member predicted Painting With John???
Pretty prophetic right
I'd say she pitched the concept. Maybe he got the idea from her? :)

Yeah, I was just telling someone about that, and about why Dennis hopper didn't want to drink the water
Genuinely lovely bloke. Thanks a million for sharing.

Can you spot the can of PBR in the front row?
26:07
thanks to her
But no one asked the most important question: Why the hell did Tom Waits put a fish in his pants?
Didnt he say that he used to do that when he was depressed?
I imagine every attendee was handed a letter saying "Kindly refrain from mentioning fish in pants thanks"
so he could catch, put in his pants, and then... release!
It's Tom waits, silly. Anything of creativity and quality goes!!!

Cheese on Cheese, Cheese on Cheese, Cheese on Cheese.
Tom Waits was still drinking as of 1991...many bios say he stopped in the early 80's.
epitome of cool and sexyness... god his voice
You should hear him blow a saxophone

Alan Arkin would be brilliant!

I have no idea what so big about FWJ, other than that he is a musician, and I am in Hungary, never seen the Ocean.
He blew beautifully- thats a tragedy

What health problems. Not john. I love the lounge lizards. Couldn't blow anymore?
The series is better than Tarkovsky, Ozu, Rossellini, and Renoir.
That is a very bold statement.
I love tarkovsky but yea to all the others- I got to buy it.
Begnini and Arkin sure, but I think flea is just awful
