thanks thao for making this a good thing, actually this is the main reason why i went back to the note 10+ after using a reno 10x zoom. previously was using s10+ and have all these good things (routines) then shifted out as i usually change phones ( habit ^_^ ), then after shifting to an oppo i was trying to look for another app that can cover this app (bixby routines) unfortunately there is non, so now im back to a note 10+ (upgrade again ) to use the routines again thanks
I love these deep dive into features. Too many reviewers crap in bixby but probably only used it for finding how to get somewhere and calling it a day. Keep it up Thao.
Charles Xavier I actually liked it. I didn't use it ALL the time but the fact I could basically control essentially my entire phone without having to touch it (looking at you Siri) was pretty cool and useful. I never really understood the hate towards it 🤷🏽♀️
@@zerospecs2331 sometimes I feel it's just the reviewers. Nothing against them because it's a competitive market but, I think in order to look like the top reviewers you have to copy them a little bit and do what they do. So when someone didn't like bixby everyone jumped on it.
You're absolutely right. I don't understand the hate on Bixby. I mean these routines are even more functional to me that the voice commands which can be a hit or miss sometimes even on Google. I rarely use voice commands even and it seems unnatural to me. I hope Samsung improves Bixby more.
I've been using routines for almost a year. I set mine up to trigger based on my location by address, time of day, wifi connections, specific apps being open and/or if I have connected to Bluetooth in my car. I love walking into somewhere and never having to change anything because Bixby already has my phone the way I like. It even opens the apps that I need depending on where I am, what time it is and the day of the week. I enjoy Bixby.
I set a routine for going to work. The trigger is when I get it of range of my wifi. My Bluetooth turns on, Google Play Music launches and my phone switches to vibrate. At 8am when people start arriving at work another routine begins. What I need is always running, or connected and my ringer is never on when it shouldn't be or off when I want to hear it.
@@bassplayrguy1 Routines use an IFTTT protocol. I use weak wifi Monday to Friday between 630am and 9am to turn on Bluetooth, launch apps, change lock screen shortcuts, adjust my ringer and turn off wifi. For other routines I use location to trigger on specific days of the week or connection to my car via Bluetooth. The options are great and your phone is always how you want it.
Great video! I have a few interesting routines to share: 1. My driving mode doesn't include the read aloud part, since it doesn't work in my language, but it does open the navigation app and music app like yours. The difference is I use Bluetooth to make it trigger itself - not that I have a Bluetooth system in my car (since I don't have a car, I mainly rent). Instead I have a little gadget I plug into any car's cigar lighter socket and connects to my phone via Bluetooth (which is the trigger for Bixby to activate car mode), transmitting the audio to the car's radio through FM waves. 2. I use my WiFi connection to turn off the smart lights in one part of my house when I move to the other part, by utilizing the trigger "if WiFi power is lower than 75%, then (lights off)". 3. To avoid notifications interfering when I use the camera, I have a routine that silences them whenever I open the camera app, of the DJI Mimo app (which, in itself, is triggered every time the Osmo Mobile connects to the phone).
I only use two routines when I'm using youtube it turns on auto rotation and when I'm at work it set the screen brightness to 60% and turn on wi-fi and I got to say it really made the phone much easier to daily usage

Thanks for sharing! Very useful! I’ve purchased a few NFC tags cheap on Amazon ( I think it cost my £6 for like 15 of them) and when I scan one NFC tag as I leave the bedroom when I wake up, it will turn all my devices off > Tell me the weather > Open my ToDo List. I also have one stuck to my bedside table that will turn off my main light, turn the nightlight on and put the TV on
One simple one ive used is to set an alarm if ive over slept in the morning 😅 super useful. (For those wondering all u have to do is to check of charging -assuming u charge over night- connected to home wifi and past 8 o clock- or whatever time u need- and then have it run a bixby quick command that switches on an alarm or setting a short timer since that might also work)
I love Bixby routines. I use them to silence my phone when I'm at work or at massage, and then to manage power and notifications at night. They work well! You've got a couple here in going to explore. Since the Android 10 update I keep having to enter my pin despite having trusted devices on (Active 2) or being at a trusted location. Maybe Bixby can help until they fix it.....

I really like Bixby for the"quick commands" which is basically routines but you trigger them using your specified voice commands. Using the Bixby button saves having to save you from having to say a activation phrase. I can open the garage and disarm security stuff by saying "Open Sesame", or any number of routines using phrases I think are clever or badass.Using IFTTT, macrodroid, Tasker, and Unified you can build some really interesting routines then triggered by Bixby quick commands, hand gestures at camera, geo fences has some using the force type novelty Then tie things down with constraints that will make it a level more difficult for athe unauthorized to spoof. Bixby on the latest Samsung phones is pretty cool as a universal remote, and trigger to make your al the other stuff like devices and apps more fun and work better. For my less tech proficient parents who I got to transition to Bixby I sprinkle some voice commands that are easy for them to remember and make stuff easier to use. everything from consolidating text, voice, email, calendar to audio briefings and senior proofing the phone. They don't have to worry about settings, how to find and do things in apps. ust ht the bixbybutton and tell the phone what yo want the TV, phone, computer, or whatever to do. Even have routines to automate trouble shooting steps like closing down programs, restarting or otherwise doing the stuff they might call me for help for.
I love Bixby Routines, it's definitely my favorite Bixby feature. I had a few set up, but this video gave me some ideas to expand upon that - the routine for headphones/earphones being connected is genius! Great video as always!

My favorite widgets I've made are for when I leave the house and when I return home. Leaving the house, my media volume is automatically set to 0%, and my sound profile is set to vibrate. I hate going into public (doctors, work, attempting to connect my BT...) and forgetting that my sound is on. My wifi is also auto-set to off unless I'm in a known place. When I return home, everything above is undone. Voila!
I've been using these routines and loving them the past year, and I learned even more uses with this video! Thank you Thao!

my favourite feature on my S10+ is Bixby routines: change sound mode, wifi and mobile data settings when im at home or at work, unlock device at home, or blue light filter+DND when open my reading app, etc...
I use Bixby routines! One for when my bluetooth connects to my car, it automatically turns media volume all the way up. I also have one for when I arrive at my office, it turns phone to mute and office wifi on. I have one for when Maps or Waze is open to turn location on and have location off otherwise
Routines is able to Start an App(in specified time/conditions). But it DOES NOT Stop/Close Apps. There are conditions for Starting apps but No conditions to Stop/Close them. That Sucks 😐😭
Instead of button toggles, I use location, wi-fi, bluetooth connection or time instead. So the routines will on/off automagically. Very convenient! For screen on time I just say 'set the screen on for XX minutes/seconds'. Those who don't use Bixby are missing a lot. Bixby + Google Assistant made Samsung phones WAY superior than iPhone in terms of assisting your day.
I have a Galaxy Note 9, but dont use an Samsung account, so every Bixbybutton click opens it up. I now have disabled Bixby completely, so pressing the button does nothing. For these easy functions and shortcuts I use IFTTT (If this then that), which can also be used on other Android devices. It has similar functionality.
I remember a few years ago having to write RFID chips and stick them all over the place to get anywhere near this kind of functionality to be consistent. It was annoying though because I couldn't easily get out of "Car mode" if I was at someone else's house, and so ended up having to carry an RFID on a chain just to switch back when needed. RFID is cool but you're limited by having physical stuff all over the place, or carrying a keyring of labelled pads.
I basically don't switch on and off data, WiFi, rotate, Bluetooth etc just because of Bixby routines. I remember when I use to use tasker to automate the smartphone and it wasn't even close of what Bixby can do. Thanks for the video! You showed a really interesting way of using Bixby routines in apps edge!
I watched one of your previous videos mentioning it, I didn't get round to trying it. This time I think I will, mainly when driving, to activate maps and TomTom Amigo speed camera detection. We'll see where the rest goes.
thank you for not giving up on bixby haha as a samsung note user myself, I've trashed on bixby multiple times but it's still nice to see that we can appreciate it and improve upon! #nevergiveup
The separate sound routine is useful when you are listening to music or watching content on OTT using a Bluetooth device, so that you don't get unnecessary notification beeps in Bluetooth audio. But at present, you can only separate the sound of one app when in reality there are a couple of OTT and music apps that people use daily...this needs to expand
I'm using Tasker since early 2013 when I had my furst Android phone - the S3 Mini. As I don't plan to root my Note9 when I get it Bixby Routines (or Routines from GoodLock if Bixby's aren't added to Android 10 for the Note9) is perfect! That's a feature every single phone should have built-in.
Wow... Thanks for the tips. Was about to use it but felt that it will be another of those thing that I won't use anymore after a while... but it seems like a very convenient & automated to get things done on our phone. Thanks a lot.
I'm looking for a way to make my notifications silent ONLY when there's audio playing (from any source, be it youtube, podcasts, etc). I'm using the APP OPENED condition, but I don't want them to be silent while the app is OPEN, I just want it for when they're actually playing something.
I like using Bixby routines, for driving to work and once I get home. Recently discovered Bixby Meme Generator. Somewhat goofy, but kinda fun at the same time. Happy New Year Thao. ✌
I use Bixby routines evertday lol. Especially when going to sleep and the smart features for sound. It is so useful especially at night. It even sends a quick reply and declines calls when i am at college by automatically detecting my location
What "IF" you don't have any schedule's? As retired? Or up till early hours and no bedtime hours? I do have pre Routines setup on my Bixby button for driving, ie navigation, bt on for car, brightness ect.
damn that was super useful thank you .. i think ill use it to turn to vibration mode in class location or when connected to college wifi and turn off mobile data when connected to a wifi and turn on medium power saver mode when battery is below 30
Hello Thao. I just started setting up Bixby (which I was going to delete from my phone later today) while watching your UA-cam. It is awesome and better than I expected!!! Thanks for sharing the info...
I always forget to set my alarm. I have setup from Monday to Friday alarm at 6 am. However, forget to set it on and didn't wake up. how do you use bixby to be able to do this. I am no programmer so started with If (specific time 10 pm), then functions (open clock)...and I'm stuck there...it opens the clock but how do I set the clock to on?
I used to use Tasker back in the day, but I feel like it was too difficult to create automated tasks. If I ever get a Samsung, I will definitely look into Bixby Routines!
i've discovered bixby routines by accident, i've noticed that my phone disables the auto rotate at night time and it was pissing me off.. then i discovered that it says (bed time routine) so it doesn't rotate when i'm in bed and checking the phone lol i don't remember how did i activated it. anyway when i opened bixby routines and explored it.. it was a new beginning for me i hate it when i'm leaving home to work and i'm in a hurry i forget to turn off wifi and turn on mobile data.. or when i arrive at work after an hour i discover that my mobile data is off. bixby routines and Dex are the best things ever
I know right !! I literally have that same shortcut with my headphones and auto rotate . I also have one for GPS which turns on automatically when I open Gmaps and uber.
Bixby routines doesn't work for what I need it for I wanted to turn off Wi-Fi when I leave home and turn on data and vice-versa but it does not seem to work
Love you Thao! 💛 I'm new to your channel, but got to admit, lovin me some Thao! 💕 Always on point with all the helpful tips! 👍 I learn so much eeverytime. Thanks for all you do! 💯 Keep the great content coming! And much success to you!
Thanks Thao, always enjoying your videos. I also heavily use routines based on BT so I don't even have to touch my phone when I start driving. Brightness up to 50, wifi off, data on, play last podcast. Trying your ideas right now!
What I'm wondering is if these routines drain battery, since for example if you set up a location routine, doesn't it constantly check where you are, which should drain more battery?
Wow... thanks, I only have one routine. When I get to work I hold the Bixby button and say "work", and it switches to wifi, turns to vibrate mode, cuts the data and nfc. I work at a Radiological facility... All LEAD WALLS & IN A BASEMENT/DUNGEON...(J/K)... Thanks for the inspiration, I am gonna sit down and get super creative with this stuff.
I'm impressed with your ideas. I've just started using them on my S21 Ultra, combined with Android 12 I've eg got Fast charging on until 50% then normal to the new 85% cap - this really helps with battery life. Also just added one to turn 5G off at home. The Routines side bar and eg disable screen timeout is great, will be adding this myself.
Is there a way to share Bixby routines with others? These are great! I use most of mine for locations (church and work) I also have some that based on time. I like the "driving" routines you mentioned.
I don't have this for my Note 9, but my Tab S7+ does and it has been great to mess with. Have a few things like adjusting brightness when watching media apps or launching Dex, but don't have much a need right now for automatic routines. The widgets however are something else I didn't know about. Thanks! I will have to try those.
I find focus mode to be a solid idea, but if it isn't automated, it's useless for morning routines. However, with Bixby routine makes this useful. You could make a video of this combination
My issue is its inconsistency since updating to android 10 on my note 10. Specifically, it doesn't activate auto-rotate in youtube and isnt unlocking my phone when connected to my car as it is supposed to. Please advise if you can.
Hey Thao, That was a really good video. I disabled bixby because it just seemed to much trouble and got crap dumped on it by others. But you really changed my mind on it and can see how damn handy this can be. Thanks soo much. Love your channel, keep smiling :)

How do I add my bixby routines to my edge panel ?
I have a Galaxy Note 9, but dont use an Samsung account, so every Bixbybutton click opens it up. I now have disabled Bixby completely, so pressing the button does nothing. For these easy functions and shortcuts I use IFTTT (If this then that), which can also be used on other Android devices. It has similar functionality.
hey how did you manage the edge panel for bixby routine?
Almost 100k Subs Thao. I Am Really Excited For that 💓
I remember a few years ago having to write RFID chips and stick them all over the place to get anywhere near this kind of functionality to be consistent.
I like the connected bluetooth one and the battery saver overnight one
Until I viewed this video, I had not planned on using Bixby.
You've opened my eyes to what I was going to miss out.
Thank you.
Wow... Thanks for the tips. Was about to use it but felt that it will be another of those thing that I won't use anymore after a while... but it seems like a very convenient & automated to get things done on our phone. Thanks a lot.
@thao how did you add it to the edge panel? I have the note 10 + can't figure it out
I'm looking for a way to make my notifications silent ONLY when there's audio playing (from any source, be it youtube, podcasts, etc). I'm using the APP OPENED condition, but I don't want them to be silent while the app is OPEN, I just want it for when they're actually playing something.
How do you get these routines on the edge screen?!?!?!?!?!?!
You deserve 1 million subs❤❤👏👏
I second that
I like using Bixby routines, for driving to work and once I get home. Recently discovered Bixby Meme Generator. Somewhat goofy, but kinda fun at the same time. Happy New Year Thao. ✌
Howdy Thao, you really light up my life with this handsome tutorial. Thanks a bunch and stay motivated for 2020 and beyond.
Congratulation on getting(almost) 100K subs.....been here since 5k or so.
Appreciate the support 🙌
I use Bixby routines evertday lol. Especially when going to sleep and the smart features for sound. It is so useful especially at night. It even sends a quick reply and declines calls when i am at college by automatically detecting my location
I wish Samsung will add this feature to older galaxy phones with android 10🥺
Jamil Aboudaher download Routine from sammobile
@@mariannesuesli5680 I tried it, it's so limited compared to bixby routines.
I'm using a Note 9 and it doesn't seem to have it. SAMSUNG 😑😑 and I just recently updated their stupid Bixby
I *think* all samsung phones with android 9+ have this
@@didiervanleeuwen It's still exclusive to galaxy devices that came with one ui 1.1 out of the box.
They need to add a feature like, IF this happens THEN we get pop up options or buttons to choose what to do like Siri Shortcuts allows.
Congratulations for 100K in advance. Love from PAKISTAN ♥️
How do i add the routines as an edge widget??
Hi Thao, I have a work one, it is location based, it switches on WiFi, mutes all sound. No more loud calls or messages whilst in the office!
"everyone Bash on Bixby"
That alone got me subbed. So many other channel dismiss it.
In my experience, everyone Mozart on Bixby
What "IF" you don't have any schedule's? As retired? Or up till early hours and no bedtime hours? I do have pre Routines setup on my Bixby button for driving, ie navigation, bt on for car, brightness ect.
Till now all I saw was hatred for bixby being not as good as google assistant. This is a bang. Most useful video ever for a Samsung smartphone user
damn that was super useful thank you .. i think ill use it to turn to vibration mode in class location or when connected to college wifi and turn off mobile data when connected to a wifi and turn on medium power saver mode when battery is below 30
How does this compare to Apple's shortcuts app?
A very informative video thank you Thao !
Hello Thao. I just started setting up Bixby (which I was going to delete from my phone later today) while watching your UA-cam. It is awesome and better than I expected!!! Thanks for sharing the info...
1 minute in and I could not resist to like the video👌
Might have to enable Bixby again 😂😂😂 cause in all honesty these are really good!
If I ever get a Samsung, I will definitely look into Bixby Routines!
i've discovered bixby routines by accident, i've noticed that my phone disables the auto rotate at night time and it was pissing me off.. then i discovered that it says (bed time routine) so it doesn't rotate when i'm in bed and checking the phone lol i don't remember how did i activated it.
anyway when i opened bixby routines and explored it.. it was a new beginning for me
i hate it when i'm leaving home to work and i'm in a hurry i forget to turn off wifi and turn on mobile data.. or when i arrive at work after an hour i discover that my mobile data is off.
bixby routines and Dex are the best things ever
I think that battery saved routine is really useful but I don't know how to add that as a command for a routine? Maybe I'm in the wrong area...
I know right !! I literally have that same shortcut with my headphones and auto rotate . I also have one for GPS which turns on automatically when I open Gmaps and uber.
Digging the Lepow set up. My Lepow screen worked for about a month now it's stuck on 30% brightness with no way of changing it. 👎🏿
I had completely disabled so Bixby functions... Your video persuaded me to give it a shot. Thanks
Thanks Thao, always enjoying your videos. I also heavily use routines based on BT so I don't even have to touch my phone when I start driving. Brightness up to 50, wifi off, data on, play last podcast. Trying your ideas right now!
Why doesn't Bixby routines show up in settings in my galaxy s9? I even have the app downloaded.
Mind blown! You are the only reviewer who has talked about any of these things.
What I'm wondering is if these routines drain battery, since for example if you set up a location routine, doesn't it constantly check where you are, which should drain more battery?
I’m sure there’s some battery drain, but it’s not something I’ve noticed
Just to let you know , Sony has this feature for years , since Xperia S2
Wow... thanks, I only have one routine.
I just discovered your channel and you're amazing!
I didn't know Bixby could do these amazing things! Thank you!
When you are home how do you keep it on lock And how do you put the unlock button on the screen
What a great video. I can't wait to set these up :) The content of your videos is always so good, you should have way more subscribers!
Reminds me of the NFC tags from years ago. Tap the one hanging on your rear view mirror to navigate home.
Nice to see a video show the usefulness of something instead of shutting it down without giving it a try. Good video and excellent quality.
In my opinion Bixby has been the most useful assistant, with the ability to controll the phone's apps or files.
Favorite routine is to make morning routine with Focus Mode. That shuts all distracting apps off, but maintains training, health, and productivity on
I find focus mode to be a solid idea, but if it isn't automated, it's useless for morning routines.
