    drunken boxing is the secret part of Shaolin style, the Monks learn that in times they are have to run away, then they built that form to fight nice stuff!

    Monks spend countless hours of the day doing chores, reading scriptures, or meditating. In the early days, it was noticed that many lacked the energy to do these tasks. When basic exercises was introduced, they found that the monks were able to do mundane tasks much more efficiently. Later on a fighting system was developed not only for self defense, but also for keeping the monks in shape so they can perform better in their tasks.

    well they didn't used to fight a long long time ago, but bandits kept trying to raid them and steal their treasures and stuff, so they developed the fighting styles over time, at first it was just for defense, but it grew into a meditation practice as well.

    Oh, I know that much. But, both Northern and Southern styles have forms that look very creative and unique, with movements that will not be used in a fight. So when someone bashes a form they see, I tend to just tell them, "The forms are for show. Each style has practical movements that are very effective in fighting."

      @@karatekid3153 The original point of drunken Kung Fu is that it makes you very unpredictable in a fight and your opponent might underestimate you if they think you're distracted or not ready. It doesn't make you stronger per se, but it's essentially meant to confuse.

    Shoalin Kung Fu helped spark the Triad mafia in China after the cultural revolution. As fighting wise, every style of kung fu is very powerful is well practiced. But people see these flashy forms and think it's what we are going to use in a fight. In all actuality, these movements are made to strengthen the body and mind. But there are practical versions of each strike that is effective in a fight.

    Well as long as the opponents think you're really drunk and underestimates you, it's good. Even if he knows your acting, using the Drunken Fist, you can move, block and attack the way your opponent will never think of. In fact, you act drunk and fool your opponent while having full control of your body.

  • @viziroth
    @viziroth 14 років тому

    the drunken fist style is about practicing moving without balance and suddenly so that if your knocked off balance you can quickly recover and counter, it's also about being loose and having you bones and muscles adapt. It's a training style that wasn't designed to be used in combat on it's own.
    It's difficult to find someone to teach it because kung-fu movies overhype it to this epic level and people think it's going to get the gold medals when really it might only be good for embarrassing ppl
