What a joy to find this video of the Minister and hear those bells. My family lived in York for 60 years. I was 7 when we arrived. I attended The Bar Convent and walked on the walls to get to school. After my Mum died I was in York with my young sons. The day after her funeral at St. Wilfred's I walked with them up Stonegate towards the Minster, it was February and snow was falling but when the Minister bells rang out I felt a great joy which I still vividly remember.
I love going to York in North Yorkshire many times for a day with my parents awesome places and passions and that's were are the friendlies people from around the world
We saw the carillon when we sang there, but there are several places where you can find carillons. The Netherlands used to have several standalone carillons and even American universities have them, too. Butler University has a nice one and Indiana University also has one. Neither is attached to a church building.
During 1983, I delivered a parcel to the shop, within York Minster. My 15year old son Mark travelled with me and as we left the minster via a side entrance, my son Mark gently up an old lady, who had fell down but fortunately she was not hurt by her fall.
The haviest Bell of Great Britain is NOT the "Great Peter" of York, it is the "Great Paul" in St Paul's Cathedral in London. Best wishes, Erwin Hoheisel, Eppstein (Germany)
Well if you like big church bells, then you must know the Petersglocke from Cologne. I heard it ringing 2 years ago during Easter Sunday. Very deep, commanding and charming sound. I think Big Pete from York is about 14 tonnes. The Petersglocke is more than 24 tonnes.
Amazing building! Couldn't afford the tour but it's great from the outside. I think it was £10 to tour or £15 to see the tower also. Free to go in just to pray. By the way next door is a wonderful church with a great service. I would strongly recommend it too :)
35 Caroling Bells + Ring of 12 + Great Peter = 48 Bells in York Minster. Whew. Man that cathedral was a pleasure to visit on my British exploit from America,
I have been there yesterday, you have to pay £10 to go in and £5 to go on the tower. Pretty pricey but it's nice. You should be respectful when you go in though as yes, it's a sacred and religious area.
@@annapowell6641 I know. I was 11 when I typed this haha. Yeah, I know you pay £10 to just go and an extra £5 to go on tower. If you choose to not go on tower, it's only £10 but if you go on tower too then yes, it's of course £15. when I was at York, we didn't go in.
This is *not* the only church with a carillon: Riverside Church in NYC has SEVENTY-FOUR bells, and the largest has a mass of Fourty-thousand, Nine hundred and twenty-six pounds (40,926), and a note of C0, for Pete's Sake!!
Bad comment. I take great exception to your misogamy - what do you know about a) the matter and b) the Dean other than false news and dishonest journalism? The bells will ring again this year - in the meantime the Minster is surrounded by a glorious quiet - interrupted at the moment by the sounds of spring.
Great Peter is not the heaviest bell in Britain. Great Paul of St Pauls Cathedral in London is. However Great Peter is the largest manually rung bell. Great Paul which wieghs in at 16 3/4 tons is rung electrically but used to be manually rung
Lol I went up there once and someone tried it out but she was pulled so high that the bell ringer had to pull her back down pulling down her trousers and underwear.
This video was done by an Indianapolis TV station. Unfortunately, they were not there when our Indianapolis cathedral choir was in residence singing the summer before the fire. I can tell you that the staff and clergy were the friendliest and most welcoming people of any cathedrals in England.
What a joy to see this beautiful cathedral and hear the bells ringing
I agree with you too!
Bells sound beautiful, and I had dreams of me ringing a bell
It was about the bell at school and it looks like a normal bell. It Is 140 years old.
And if you pull it it will get stuck because, the bell at our school is old. So my friend Landon told me that if you knock or tap on it will ring.
And at the church, at 12:00 in the after Noon it sounds like that with all the bells ringing. It is very beautiful!
How awesome. I'd love to hear bells ringing every evening. I always enjoyed it when they rang out on my college campus.
Beautiful! Glorious sounds, I love it.

When the great Peter rings, then the damn microphone almost died !!!!!!
Me and my fiancé were here today and the Minster is huge and it’s well worth a visit
I’ve noticed in the video the bells are slightly lower tone the audio then they sound in real life.

Awesome channel. Welcome back Phil
2:04 - I like the way the guy swings on the rope. Makes me think of Quasimodo
SIKU Jacob Quasimoto - the Chinese Quasimodo
CarlRoyale I think he meant ‘Quasimodo’ but he accidentally out the ‘t’ before the ‘o’
