  • Kool Rock-Ski came through for his first-ever VladTV interview, where he shared the history of the pioneering rap group, The Fat Boys. He spoke about being in high school when the group started as a five-member group, which was then shortened to three members, including Prince Markie Dee and Buffy the human beatbox. Kool Rock-Ski detailed the group, then known as The Disco Three, winning a huge Coca-Cola sponsored talent contest, getting a record deal, and taking off with their track "Stick 'Em." From there, Kool Rock-Ski spoke about The Fat Boys hitting great heights over their career, including movie deals, gold and platinum records, and five successful albums. While they had high times, Kool Rock-Ski also addressed the low points, including Buffy's unexpected death from the flu in 1995, and Prince Markie Dee passing away at just 52 earlier this year. To hear more, including Kool Rock-Ski's plans for future projects involving the group, hit the above clip.

@@henrycruz4966 You're right. It was RUN DMC. Fat boys were soon to follow, though. Then RUN DMC really blew up and the Beastie Boys changed the scene quite a bit. Not long after we started losing the classic party sound of mainstream hip hop to the Gangster vibe. I, for one, missed the classic street/party vibe.

This vid got a like before I was even 5 seconds in. Kool Rock is one of the most humble OG's around. I remember catching them on their Wipe Out Tour back in the day & that joint was OFF THE CHAIN!!! 🔥🔥🔥 The balcony structure was literally bouncing throughout the set, because folks were just amped & jammin' to the Disco 3/Fat Boys. Also, please start using the R&B charts for more accurate information about how the albums and singles did in Billboard. For example, the Fat Boys debut album reached number 48 on the pop album chart like you said, but it got up to number 6 on the black R&B chart; which better reflected how the record did with its target audience. Joel Whitburn’s research books have all the Billboard chart info you’ll need; especially the Top R&B Albums 1965-1998 book

The light skin one in the fat boys was rude. But this guy & the box was SUPER COOL to me. The box gave me a pencil & the hotel pad so I could get autographs from them & erbody else. Being 5’4” 633 lbs was already putting too much strain on his body, particularly his heart. His body couldn’t handle the flu and he was dealing with other health issues also like the fluid build up. My cousin got me into rap music in 1985 and my the first cassette I ever recorded was the first Fat Boys album and we put our tape decks together in our grandmother's kitchen and recorded it while we were eating cereal and you can hear the clinging of our spoons on the bowls and us talking in the background and we would listen to that tape while playing Atari and building forts and tents for our Gi Joe and Star Wars and He Man toys to have a royal rumble tag team elimination competition.
Jail House rap piano at the end is an under appreciated performance in rap history that no one really acknowledged.
