California power companies offer HUGE rebates for Tesla charging (6¢ to 8¢ perh kWh), because it lowers their emissions and generally uses night time electricity which they find hard to sell.
So Tesla can be as low as 2 cents per mile vs 8 for Prius.
Why are we comparing the cost of a BRAND NEW Tesla with a USED Prius? You can literally get a used Tesla that's still under warranty for around $25k.
You do not need to replace your battery that many times with a Tesla 😂😂😂 omg do people really think that? If you have to replace it and I mean IF it would be once.

With the Uber black/Lyft black, he's able to essentially start a business if that is his aim. I assume most private clients rather be picked up in a TESLA vs. Prius. Plus it's introducing you to people that have the money to pay you well. I don't think it's as simple as the numbers game, because you never know where 1 better client can take you if you have a proper car. If he ends up with a livery fleet/business or gets a connection that helps him into something else etc. Point being it could potentially open some unknown doors, that down the line make it worth it.

I specialize in Super early airport reservation requests and military bases. My market is GREAT and getting better! The money is good but it does not support full time engagement! I only drive during peak hours!
Honestly there is nothing like older cars any Corolla any Prius any hybrid and the reliability isn’t there of teslas becomes more expensive at the end of the day at some point will be paying more money with Tesla cuz you will going to replace tires more often insurance will be up in the sky all those factors at the end of the day you will be paying more money for Tesla than any Corolla Prius or any hybrid those tesla still more expensive no matter what

It's more 'worth it' to get an older prius than a new tesla but there's a few things about this math here. I'll do my own rundown here - feel free to correct me. I'll use a new tesla anyways, even though an older tesla is like 27k and still under warranty. i'll run down through 5 years - no car battery changes because the data is showing currently that batteries are needed to be replaced even less often than tesla thought, especially if home charging.
1.) cost/mile after electricity rebates in cali is around 2-3 cents per mile, we'll use 3. the prius i'll give it 7 cents/mile. that's 4 cents per mile difference. using his 40k miles and extrapolating per year we get 70k miles a year. that's a delta of 3500 a year.
2.) you used the 10 year maintenance of a new prius, not an old 15k one. a 15k prius is like 10 years old. when plugging in the depreciation for these cars, we get around 400 bucks a year difference between them (and i've heard from first-hand accounts that teslas don't even get to the 400 bucks i'm using here). that's a difference of so that's 4
3.) insurance for teslas does cost more. i'll use 120 bucks for prius/month, and for tesla 250 a month (i see less, and i see more, i'll use 250). that's a difference of 1600 a year.
5.) a new tesla is 49k. california offers up to 2000 just from what i'm reading. fed offers 7500. he bought for 40000. let's up that to 46k after interest.
his trade-in would be 15'ish-k , and so he lost 30k. in those years the prius is going to be worth 'for parts' after doing that mileage on a 10 year old car. so that's losing 10k (being nice). delta is 20k on 5 years. (4k a year)
without the extra money from doing uber black etc, he's at (3500 + 400 - 1600 - 4000) = -1600 a year if he bought it with a 6k loan on those 5 years. likely he had better rates (definitely not 8.3%), and he's more than likely making that up with uber black. also he gets to drive a new tesla and not an old prius, which while not making financial sense, does have some value. 1600 a year is 140 a month. i bet with the upgraded tiers one can make that back.
