This is my first Ella Fitzgerald video, and I decided to make it a Christmas Themed video at that. Hope you guys enjoy. Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
Tonight, 10/30/2024, I listened to this song (fully) for the first time. How beautiful, smooth and velvety! Wow, what a Heavenly instrument she was! Simply beautiful.
+NFL Sucks ass, you should boycott it!!! Ella underrated? Ask the best singers of today and they'll all say Ella was the greatest. All the stars of Ella's generation said she was the greatest too. She's under-appreciated in 2016... but she's not underrated.
What a wonderful era! We grew up when our parents were still loving this music. We were blessed to have the best of both worlds. Ella Fitzgerald had a fabulous voice. Marilyn knew talent.
I am from 'this generation' 22 years old... unfortunately, too many of my peers do not recognize the beauty that is this music. Truly magnificent vocalist here, more people should appreciate it.
When Facebook asked me to present a song for the holidays I immediately thought of Ella Fitzgerald's rendition of What are you doing New Years Eve.🎼🎵🎶 No one does it like Ella!! Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to you all!❤🌲💚🌲🌈
If you want to realize what a genius Ella Fitzgerald was listen to her live recording of Mack the Knife in which she forgets the lyrics. Brilliance personified.
@@Alessandro924i It was her live performance in Berlin 1960, there are plenty of recordings if you search it up on UA-cam. Here's a video essay with some backstory too: ua-cam.com/video/qU7R1w0aNF0/v-deo.html
I fell in love with this song because of the college football commercial so I had to search this and I am now in love with this song including it was just New Years so I played this song on New Years and New Years eve🎶🎵
In the last picture, Sir Duke is totally captivated by her. That picture has fascinated me since I first saw it. The look on Duke Ellington's face is how I feel about Ella and her music, her creative spirit, her voice. Ella's voice was and remains one of great wonders of the world, yet its sound is from somewhere beyond the coil of mortality. Hers is a sound thats purely human in its primal expression and yet paradoxically supernatural in its transcendent perfection.
Here is talent at it's best! one of the finest female voices of the 20th century sad but gone only to be remembered on recordings we will miss you but you will be welcome in heaven!
@Dior4im "I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt. It was because of her that I played the Mocambo, a very popular nightclub in the '50s. She personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she would take a front table every night. She told him - and it was true, due to Marilyn's superstar status - that the press would go wild. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night." - Ella Fitzgerald
What a beautiful work of art On one hand, it’s a song about the celebratory traditions of New Year’s Eve, but at the same time it’s also about the girl who doesn’t get ‘picked’, who isn’t ___ enough, and knows it. For the popular and privileged, this song jubilantly reminds you of the best times, but for the invisible, for the lower classed, for the ones who don’t get ‘picked’, it’s an ode to all the times you were rejected and ignored. Ella manages to sing both songs, for everyone in the room when the clock strikes midnight, all at once.
Someone asked why there were 13 dislikes. It’s because they’ve heard the caucasians sing it later and until they saw her. Ella didn’t play. Beautiful rendition!
Am the biggest fan of composers, the heart and soul of music. Bing Crosby once said, the singer is only as good as the composer and their talents. Frank Loesser, one of the absolute best. Composers, the unsung heros but oddly rarely mentioned.
@Dior4im "The press went overboard. After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman - a little ahead of her times. And she didn't know it." - Ella Fitzgerald
Listening on New Year’s Eve 2024. hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2025 xx
Happy NewYear2025🎆🎇🎉✨️
We’re listening with you. Ella is immortal.😊
Tonight, 10/30/2024, I listened to this song (fully) for the first time. How beautiful, smooth and velvety! Wow, what a Heavenly instrument she was! Simply beautiful.
Like a warm, fuzzy blanket oozing down around my shoulders... I could listen to this all day!
They don't make vocalists like this anymore! Spectacular, stunning, and quite simply, perfection
AMEN
🎯💯They don't write songs like this anymore either.
Happy New Year 2024
Here on Dec 31, 2021 because, Ella. My soul needed this amidst the chaos.
Hello 👋 Jenny
How are you doing today?
Class, pure class
Getting ready for 2025 Just had to listen to this happy new year 🎉
I loved this arrangement by her ever since I was a little girl - my mother had the album back in the early 60's ... Thanks for the memories.
Dolladie I love this songs too..

I love listening to Ella Fitzgerald. she has such a beautiful voice that's so full of passion
+Sanny D. So underrated. I mean it was Billy Holiday, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith people usually think of.

The inner light in her shines brightly through her singing
I love all the younger generations expressing such open-mindedness and appreciation for the one of the Greatest.
She has some amazing tones in her voice.
Cannot understand why there's 13 dislikes. How do you hate perfection??
+Nakkid Frodo It frustrates them that they can't sing like this. She makes it sound so easy.
Nakkid Frodo
...when you refuse to attempt it!

Honestly it's probably just the sound quality. This sounds like 240p even on the highest setting
Her impeccable phrasing! The band creating a sublime setting! We are in the presence of genius.
Ella owns this Frank Loesser classic written around '47.
I haven't heard anyone to top her with this rendition.
Love her voice. So crystal clear.

Used to love watching her TV show years ago. The most soothing voice..never that warble sound so many have. Just beautiful!

Loved every second!!!
There are numerous covers of this song but this is Number 1.
I saw this in the short college football playoff commercial and the woman's voice gave me the chills because it was so good.
You should listen to some of her other songs! Also check out Billie Holiday. Their voices are both beautiful
Love the commercial!

+NycBeauty Karen Carpenter's version was pretty good though.
+NFL Sucks ass, you should boycott it!!! The Four Knights version... and the Orioles version. The Orioles had the biggest hit with it though.
Currently we are on the brink of a new year. I hope things will get better
Amen
Did they?
this kind of jazz always transports me to the climax of a romantic movie
