    I loved Roleplaying such a event in a campaign previously!!! My tavern room had notes written on the wall. I passed the Roll 1st day but not the 2nd, thats when i could freak out and start writting things in my book to remember! Half the party was the mental crutch of the forgetful, it wss both traumatizing and hilarious to play through!

    In my experience, once you introduce one deceptive NPC who appears to be nice, the players will question the motives of every NPC from then on, sincere or otherwise. But regarding the main topic of the video, a scenario such as the one you presented seems like a niche encounter only suitable to certain groups or situations.
    If you're trying to get the players to reminisce in-game, one method I use is to simply reuse characters from previous sessions, as you alluded to in the beginning. Recurring NPCs can help make the shared world more cohesive, tie together otherwise unconnected adventures, help tie up loose ends (as you also mentioned), save time during adventure preparation (since they already have at least some details), and bring back memories of the party's previous heroic adventures.
    While an imposter like you mentioned can do some of these things and provide your players with a short quest, coming to the aid of an old ally can give them a much more satisfying adventure while doing everything else mentioned above.

      I have to agree. One returning NPC can do everything good for the game that the imposter is supposed to, and it would do so without training mistrust into the players. It could fit in naturally to the main storyline, giving the PCs someone who *actually* appreciates what they did previously, who can give an update to a situation since the party left, and who may need more help.
      As an aside, I don't know any players who wouldn't stop eating/talking to this person after the first saving throw and fogginess coming on.

      @@ZeKiwiOfTheNorth You're absolutely right about the saving throws. If the party didn't attack or interrogate the NPC after the first save, they would at least get the hell out of Dodge. This scenario would never reach its conclusion as presented.

    Just had an idea for my own monster trap. Imagine a monster that is a doppleganger (figurative, not literal) Of a real person. Then players encounter the original who has spent years trying to catch up with the monster and the notoriety it brings.
    Think Trigun and Vash the Stampede. Living with the legacy of what his brother had done.

    This system works for any trap, as have said in other vids.
    First is identifying the trap, then investigation, then resolution.
    Think like a trap room horror movie. Does person roll a dice and find a key, or have a challenge to overcome?

    Guy, would love to hear your thoughts on an "isekai"/OG DnD Animated Series style campaign where modern PCs from our world end up in a DnD setting.
    I've been thinking of doing a Land Of The Lost inspired campaign and am trying to figure the best way to integrate modern PCs into their classes etc.
