Ed ruins his sermons by proclaiming idiot history. Slaveholders did NOT have a right to kill their slaves and this was NOT the issue at hand in the Dred Scott decision. Slave holders in antebellum America could be tried for murder if they killed a slave and some were convicted of murder when this happened, which was a rare occurence. The issue at stake in Dred Scott was whether a slave was entitled to manumission because he was brought into non-slaveholding territory as per the precedent established by Lord Mansfield in the 1772 Somersett decision. Most Americans are utterly, willfully ignorant of history and it is reckess and irresponsible for Dr Young to garble and distort the historical record. Under American slavery, 400,000 slaves grew to 4 millions in 4 generations. Comparing 19th century American slaveowners with contemporary abortionists is asinine.
