Another great video:) I definitely agree with you that the books and exams are becoming too expensive. It has all become about money making in my opinion and it’s not just the ABRSM, it’s happening with a lot of examination boards sadly. With the cost of living these days being so high, I think a lot of people will find it unaffordable not only to do the exams but to even buy the books! Especially if some of these books only have 9 pages! Of course this is only my opinion:)
The full list of pieces are on the ABRSM website so it may be worth looking at that first before deciding to buy the book. They also list all the scales you need as well.
You are too kind. These books are beyond being a rip off. I bought a few used books on EBay from the past two cycles just to check them out, and even at used prices they were a rip off. Candidly, you would do your followers a great service if you would tell them which pieces are in the public domain and free or are a part of other essential collections. Or just post what the pieces / requirements are and give the students (and their parents) other options than buying those flimsy books. Your videos are outstanding and I encourage you to keep up your good work. Thank you!
Is there sheet music for all 48 pieces or must I search the internet for the rest? I know there are recordings of the 48, but how else can I study them? Thanks for all you do!
I agree about the rip off factor. I often only like one or two pieces out of 9 and don't know where to buy the full selection, which is probably expensive too!? I think they assume everyone who learns piano is middle class and has plenty of money. Or fairly well off parents who don't mind spending the money for their children to learn piano. 😮? I have the G3 book, there isn't one Jazzy piece, which I often prefer. There are two musical show/film numbers, like The Muppet Show Theme, as an adult I'm not that keen There is also one from an animation film, from Spirited Away, which I do like, and looks relatively easy, maybe G2? Also agree with you about leaving out more well-known pieces.
Hey! I will be getting ready for Grade 8 this year and just to clarify, we are still supposed to play 4 song, 3 from the ABRSM list and 1 as whatever we choose, right?
In terms of the cover, it's always children and teenagers on the cover, but lots of adults and older adults take up the piano too. Why not have an adult on the cover sometimes? It's not only children who play piano..
It's about making it more human and friendly. It's always children or teenagers on the cover, but lots of adults learn piano too and older adults take up piano after retirement. Why not put an adult on the front for a change!?

What people should do before they buy the book is look up the contents and listen to the pieces first
Stefan, your videos are outstanding! Thank you very much especially for the Czerny 599 book and the accompanying videos.
They should bring back the abstract art designs for the covers, the covers from the early 2000s looked far more interesting, and elegant..
They should have a digital option.
Agree - looks like many of the pieces are only available as part of a collection, making an already expensive exam even more so!
There is a digital option in the ABRSM-Shop now.
@@vanessas.4625 There is, but not all the syllabus pieces are available in that format.
Absolutely right. Trinity do, yet ABRSM only sell individual pieces ...😕

Agree.
new scales sight reading book coming out January 2025
Is proof of purchase of the book a requirement for exam entry
no, it's not. you can memorise the pieces from someone else's book as long as you don't show up with photocopies to the exam
You said “syllabi”… will you marry me?
If I wasn't married already, I would 🤣
Why have anyone
On the cover.
Just a Piano and some music notes against a musical theme .
I am already turned off!!!
