Just bought this lens for my fx30, very happy with it. However at 3:50 you mention how if you place this lens on a full frame camera you get 25-105....thats not true, it crops in making it closer to 37-157.....not sure why you thought there wouldnt be a crop on a full frame camera?
It is an APS-C lens, it crops at 1.5x factor so you do get 25.5-105mm equivalent exactly on a full frame camera. www.tamron.eu/en-GB/p/d082ed72-afd8-4ff5-bc26-717266d157e6/17-70mm-f28-di-iii-a-vc-rxd
@@PavSZ @PavSZ Thats the full frame equivalent, it doesn't mean you get that range if you literally place the same lens on a full frame camera. If you apply an ASPC lens onto a full frame body you get a 1.5 crop FROM 25.5-105..... hence if you put this lens on a Sony A7iii for example, your NEW range would be 37-157mm......otherwise full frame and ASPC lenses would be the same! For the same reason if you place a full frame lens on an APSC, you will need to crop in as there will be significant vignetting.
@@PatrickCrawfordVideowhen you put a apsc lens onto a fullframe, say this 17 70 lens, the focal range will still be 17 70 on fullframe, giving us the true focal range of 17 70, much wider than using with an apsc, but with heavy vignetting - make it unusable. So we have to use apsc crop mode to zoom into the sensor to get rid of those vignetting. And the final focal range is 1.5x closer. 17 70 turn in to a 25.5 to 105. The field of view is exactly the same with an apsc camera now. Please just try yourself and learn better before conclusion!
i'm still confused with crop factor. i owned one but does this mean 17mm is about 25mm? or since it's for apsc, it's just 17mm! 😅 my friend said it's around 24-105mm using on my A6400
there isn't one. The best lens is the one you have. If we’re talking “equivalents” then it’s really just a 25-105 f4 full frame equivalent. With that in mind, Tamron basically created a mini 24-105 f4 for APSC. The only advantage is that it does relatively collect a little more light being a 2.8, but the depth is the more or less equivalent to a full frame f4.

According to you, which lens is best for making indoor UA-cam videos?
@@FactNight there isn't one answer to your question. It will depend on the type of the room, type of the video and what lighting you have. I personally like 50mm f1.2 a lot but I also use Sony 35mm f1.8, Sigma 35mm f2, Sigma 16-28mm f2.8 and others.
Mybe nxtyear ill buy it i have my lovely 16/55mm2.8 But tnx mate for reviewing ❤️
Thank you for watching!
I wonder if this lens will come out for fuji. this lens would be a perfect match for fuji xt3 in video (as this lens has image stabilization)
It's strange that they didn't make it available for Fuji yet - maybe soon
@@PavSZ currently on pre order at bh photo for fuji
hello sir, i want to ask about the stabilization of Sony A6700 and Tamron 17-70mm. I have Sony A6700 and Sigma 16mm, but recently i want to buy a zoom lens. I want to buy Tamron 17-70mm just like yours. But i am aware there are a lot of people who said that the IBIS in A6700 fighting with the VC in Tamron 17-70mm, and its not recommended for the combination.
can you share your A6700's steady shot setting in this video? Is it Off, Standard or Active? Because i see that your footage of A6700 and Tamron 17-70 are super smooth and there are no jitters whatsoever.
And can you tell me things to be aware of before i buy the lens for my a6700 sir? Thank you so much.. i'm waiting for your reply. Godbless
I have tested it with a6600 and a7IV.
I never heard that Sony's IBIS has to fight Tamron's VC. I think I've used a gimbal in my review
@@PavSZ So use gimbal and turn off A6600 Steadyshot?
@@igLEON I never switch the Sony's stabilisation off. I never noticed that Tamron does not work with it
Can I use this lens on my Lumix g85 that is micro 4/3 sensor?
no, it is Sony-E mount
@@PavSZ okey thank you so much for clear my doubts 🙏
Hi Pav
Thanks for this wonderful video on this particular lens i am looking for to buy.
Just on a different note, is there any chance I can request for a photography session from you please. If you are in UK, I would love to spend couple of hours with you as a student and learn photography.
It will be really really a big opportunity for me.
Looking forward to hear from you.
Many Thanks
Ani
Thanks!

Hello man, I have this lens and I felt paired with the ibis on my a6600 I have micro jiltter that I don’t have on with my sigma who doesn’t have Oss ..do you have the same ?
I can't say that I have seen anything like that on my a6600 and this lens
Can I make feature film for theater of this one lens and sony fx30 camera ?
I can't see why not
Does this vignette in full frame?
yes. It is an APS-C lens. All Sony cameras can automatically detect APS-C lenses and crop
Now I am gona buy this one & I have already ordered it, thanks for info 👌👌
good choice!
quick question, this is compatible with sony a7iii right? i'm kinda new to photography. Thanks!!
yes but with a crop. This is APS-C lens. You'll get only 12mpx resolution on a7III
@@PavSZ I see. Is there a full frame alternative that would you recommend with almost the same zoom but also budget wise? Thank you very much!
would you personally rather choose this or the Sigma 18-50 ?
this
@@PavSZ alright thanks! 👍
now I just have to figure out which I buy first - the Tamron 11 to 20 or the Tamron 17-70 🤷♂️😅
I really like the Tamron 11-20 - have you seen my review of it? ua-cam.com/video/q_ME5O-sFLs/v-deo.html
@@PavSZ Yep sure ! I also already commented there. i really liked your vlog !👍
Oi, como ficam as fotos a noite sem flash em 2.8? Ficam sem granulado?
I'd answer but I only speak English and Polish
@@PavSZ Hi, how are the photos at night without flash in 2.8? Are they grainy?
@@ivanoliveira1126 that will be very much camera and camera settings dependant. f2.8 certainly allows it to be more versatile in lower lighting conditions than a standard kit lens
@@PavSZ thank you for your help.
can i get the same result with alpha 6400?
yes! absolutely
I don't understand the part of if you use it on a FF camera
on a ff it is 25 to 105mm but you will have crop when taking photos. Same photo quality but less pixels across, smaller files.
With video you will have no crop. 4k or HD will be the same size as with a full frame lens
Can I use this lens in Sony zv e10
yes
Hello channel owner, I have watched a few videos on your channel to refer to the lens after watching, I am wondering between the 18-50mm sigma f2.8 lens and between the tamron 17-70 f 2.8. My need is to have a versatile lens that is more about shooting and shooting at a good level. Can the channel owner give me some advice? Thank you.!
both lenses are great. Only you can decide which focal length is better for you
I would think that because of it having 2.8 at 70mm it would work well with a teleconverter, have you tried this?
sorry but no - I only had a lens for few weeks for this review
@@PavSZ now worries after writing that I looked up how much sony e teleconverters cost and I could just get a dedicated telephoto lens or two for the price of those things xD
25-105 f/2.8 is great. Why can’t they make the full frame version of this?
I wish they did!
Great videoo! Thank you man! :)
thank you for watching!
What nd filter is the best for this lens???
K&F Concept offers solid and affordable options
Have you ever review sony Rx100 Viii and V?.. I’m on the searching of those “old” guys for it portability (I own a7iv too). The Vii for it range but the V is 1.8. If you do, please take on consideration picture IQ, for a photographer since everybody talk about video spec 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️.
I have reviewed RX100 VII awhile ago
Hey is this good for sports?
theoretically speaking, yes
thanks
thank you for watching!
One lens to rule them all.
it kind of is
Did Tamron lend you this lens for the review (whether it was sponsored or not)?
it was not sponsored, paid or influenced in any way but it was on loan from Transcontinenta, Tamron distributor in UK
@@PavSZ thank you.
I’m debating lenses, but trying to find reviews from people who bought the lens so there is less chance of a bias, and more forthcoming with criticism (not worried about whether they will continue to get lenses /equipment in the future).
I enjoyed your video. Still found it informative.
I am subscribed.
Also, thank you for your response.
@@ark-astrophotography915 I very, very rarely say negative things about the lenses anyway. I have shot with the 2 cheapest lenses I could buy commercially for over 10 years and build my business on that. I believe that currently all lenses and cameras are totally usable and only us, the humans are the problem.
Lenses like this Tamron are very good and if there is any shortcoming or a "problem" with it, you just work around it. You adapt and use it to your best ability and it won't let you down.
I'm sold.
Very good lens
@@PavSZ Gonna make this alongside the FX30 my firsts!!
All your foto are edited?
yes
useful
Thanks
is this a good lens for High School Basketball ?
I can't see why not. Your camera skills, right settings etc. will be more important in this situation
I am waiting for second generation of this lens
It might be too soon for v.2
@@PavSZ Tamron updated 28-75 f2.8 after 3 years. 70-180 f2.8 is supposed to be updated at the end of 2023 ie after 3 years. Hopefully 17-70 f2.8 is next.
It doesn't have auto focus?
it does
What are you using to record this video?
I think I've filmed this with Sony a7sIII and 35mm f1.8 lens
Not sure how it gets 25mm to 105mm on full frame. The lens only goes to 70mm. So, 25-70mm f2.8 for FF? Sounds like a normal range pro lens!
you multiply full focal range by 1.5x. It can't be 70 on APS-C and 70mm on full frame. This is 25.5 to 105mm on a full frame
FIRST!!!
well done!!!
I thought Arnold Schwarznegger was talking to us about lens
really? wrong accent and wrong country
bought this guy today for 449,- Euro.. 24-06-06
How are you enjoying your lens? I plan on getting one for myself. I have a Sony Zv e-10 and I’m just starting in the world of photography and videography.
What do you think?
is better then 28-75 ?
it's a different lens. Can't say it is better or worse. It's Tamron high quality.
How about video?😮
I don't understand your question as I talk about its video performance in my review 3:16
Would you shoot a wedding with this?
I do not shoot weddings so it is not for me but saying that it would be totally usable. If this is good for you too shoot a wedding with it ... it would hugely depend on your photography skills and most importantly your style. Only you can answer your question
